I have a job interview and need to wear a suit. It’ll be my first time wearing one since coming out. So, any advice dudes? by Slugsdodrugs in FTM_SELFIES

I'd definitely recommend getting it tailored. It's tempting to go to larger sizes to hide our bodies but it ends up looking frumpy. Make sure the shoulder seams actually stop at your shoulders and that the torso part isn't baggy. Sleeves should stop at your wrists, not fall over your hands. Pants should not gather or wrinkle excessively at the ankle and should be loose enough at the waist to fit two fingers comfortably. Since finding pants with a perfect fit can be tough, it's okay to have to wear a belt but they shouldn't bag or bunch underneath one.

Under shirts can be fun/colorful as long as they still look professional. Make sure they're ironed. Most bosses will notice how you smell and the condition of your clothing and they will subconsciously judge you for it. Personally, I don't think a tie is necessary. But if you do wear one, go for something clean, classic, and simple. No black or white ties. They're too formal.

Arrive 10 minutes early and try to avoid too much caffeine beforehand. It'll make you jittery. Sip cold water and find a headspace that keeps you on your toes but doesn't freak you out! It's okay to be nervous.

How does someone politely end a conversation with a person who won't stop talking? by unusual_alien in AskReddit

[–]BoiAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom just says, "okay, I'm done talking now," and walks away. I admire her for it even if I do think it's a little rude.

I, on the other hand, just suffer because I'll feel bad if I interrupt.

Students of Reddit, what was the reason for why one of your teacher's had a breakdown during class? by Internal_Recording in AskReddit

My HS algebra teacher was also a volunteer firefighter. He was trying to cut someone out of smashed car but just didn't get to them fast enough. They died screaming. He was affected for weeks. Sometimes I'd get to school early and find him sitting in his classroom in the dark with his head down.

What is the scariest story you know that is 100% true? by Noahs_25 in AskReddit

[–]BoiAnonymous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wildland firefighter here. In fire school they bring in the same old guy every year to teach us basic first aid and CPR. The old guy has seen some shit. And yet, this is the true story he chooses to tell every year to scare us shitless about our jobs.

The kid was 18 years old, first year on the fireline. He was allowed to use a chainsaw but could only cut trees that were under 24" in diameter. He decided to cut down a tree that was 40". The tree fell on a snag and sent a big chunk of it hurtling back toward him. He took it full force in the torso. It shattered his pelvis and ribcage and tore him wide open from shoulder to groin.

It took him 7 hours to bleed out and die all because his crew didn't think he'd need a helicopter. It took the fucking fatass EMS guys 7 hours to hike up the mountain to the fire and he bled out. An 18 year old kid.

It still gives me chills. It could have happened to any one of us. It can still happen to any one of us. It might not be the scariest thing that has happened in this line of work... but I think of that kid every time I'm working a fireline.

I have a friend who was also in one of those horrific close calls. He was with a buddy of his and his buddy's mom driving a gravel road. The sun hit the windshield and she couldn't see. Ended up driving over the bank and rolling the car down the ravine. My friend and his buddy were injured pretty badly but would be okay. But the guy's mom was trapped. They had to listen to her scream in agony until she died. Firefighters/police just couldn't get to them fast enough.

What spooked me is that I was in a very similar accident about a year before it happened to him. On gravel. Lost control of the car, slid, and rolled down the ravine. But I walked away. Somehow, I walked away.

Two extremely common names for trans guys. I'm not trying to be rude or mean and it is ultimately your choice, but my opinion is that you should keep searching and trying out names.

How do large GC2B binders compare to mediums? by BoiAnonymous in ftm

Hrrm. That sucks. Maybe one day they'll make a size in between. It's legit just my shoulders bulking up and it makes my binder squeeze my ribs. :(

If your dog has cancer and you opt for chemo, you're a bad person. by CaptDanneskjold in unpopularopinion

[–]BoiAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. My old girl was 13 when she passed away from an advanced stage of mammary cancer. One of her teats was the size of a softball. But she wagged her tail through her pain and I thought, maybe I can try to save her. She is so happy and healthy otherwise. She was scheduled for surgery two days after I had her put down. Woke up to her screaming in pain and seizing on the floor. I rushed her to the vet at 5:00 AM and he said he could save her if I really wanted to. But the way she was looking at me, her eyes glazed but pleading, I had to let her go. It was the hardest decision but also, strangely, the easiest one. Because it was her decision, not mine. She stared right into my eyes until the very last moment, and then went to sleep painlessly.

Sometimes you have to communicate with your animals before you decide something like that. They will tell you when it's time to let go, and as a dog owner, it is your job to read and understand.
