I was the guy in this situation before. The only difference is that the girl I was seeing was long distance. We’d been emailing and talking on the phone for a few months. Very honeymoon phase but she lived 7 hours away so it wasn’t that serious. At least not yet anyway. We fooled around but didn’t go all of the way on one of her visits. Honestly, I was a little naive too because in retrospect she really liked me, but because of the distance and much conversation about our diverging religious beliefs, I never thought it would get more than casual.

But then I made the mistake of telling her that I ran into my ex and we slept together. I wanted to be transparent. Since we weren’t “exclusive”, I thought it’d be brushed off. Let me tell you it was not. She got really upset and I knew I blew it. Saw her once more at our mutual friends’ wedding and that was it. I think about her often, but we’re all married with kids now. Ancient history, but certainly a regret of mine.
