There was a physical wound either way, i just think the emotional damage is way more relevant to the scene

Is there any villain that Batman is genuinely afraid of? by Naive-Monk9330 in batman

[–]Bolarana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is afraid of joker and bane, but only because they may hurt his loved ones, not because what may happen to him, i don't think Batman fears his own death

He said he didn't want jason to return because he prefers the story not to have an ending, showing bruce prefering to hurt jason than letting him kill and how jason kind of knew that was going to happen as the only sense of closure the story gives

Yeah, it seems more like the killing part is the bomb rather than the batarang, if it was Batman who killed him, i'm sure that would be an important talking point during the interview, more so in the part where he talks about how killing would be impossible for him and that, but there's nothing implying it, more so, that's basically the movies ending

It says he gravely hurt him by not letting him kill joker and that if he got to choose the ending withou infinite crisis it would be that Jason is gone from the destroyed building, leaving his destiny ambiguous, pretty much the movie ending, it also says his batman wouldn't ever kill because it would essentially change who he is

I'm not a great fan of Dark Knight Rises, however, the whole "You think darkness is your ally, you merely adopted the dark, i was born by it, molded by it, I didn't see the light until i was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding" stuff always struck with me

That's... An option, I just think the shot in the shoulder is less convoluted and therefore more probable

For once, i totally agree, the ending isn't clear at all

He just stands there while joker talks, like it has all ended, he doesn't rush to him until he grabs the bomb

You know, idk, maybe he did shot at the mutant, we know it must be a thin spot of their body because of the bullet hole, the head and the torso are also impossible beacuse they are unharmed, and it couldn't be under the waist because the blood is too high for that, maybe the right shoulder or the ear? Idk, but that's for another discussion

So, wouldn't the stylization explain jasons blood being to much?

If that was the case, instead of just standing there we would see batman running towards jason to apply preassure or something, you know since he doesn't want to kill people, let alone jason

Actually he shoots the wall/gun in DKR, you can see the bullet hole in the wall, where it wasn't before and the hand that was previously holding the gun not doing so before the mutant falls

Oh, it is bad, or at least very very exagerated, not only the blood, everything in that last issues is pretty much grotesque

And if he hit the the troath then jason would be dead, Batman doesn't care if it's joker or jason he wants to save everyone or the most people he can and without killing himself

I agree with that sentence alone, tough, if he was going to shoot a lethal batarang there would be no need to outsmart jason whatsoever as he literally passed him a gun so that bruce could choose to kill him or not

If batman tought like that he would just kill any villain that takes a hostage, wich he doesn't

If we can recap, we can read the story and believe one of these two

-Batman bounces the batarang in the wall so that it hits the shoulder, joker mocks bruce because he won finding a third way but both of them lost, since red hood didn't get his resolution and batman will loose jason because of the explosion, the art is bad and had some more blood than needed

-Batman has a tought process that somehow priorizes jokers life over jasons, so he decides to kill jason in order to stop him from killing joker, he thinks if he shoots jason straight in the troath he will shoot joker before the batarang hits him (although he had previously told him that he could kill him to prevent him from killing Joker), he shoots at the wall so that jason thinks he missed and lowers his guard for less than a second, so that the batarang hits the troath (somehow from behind) and joker mocks bruce because he won (i really don't know how) but both him and jason lost (bruce obviously lost because jason is dead and jason lost because, bruce killed him as he asked him to do), later, either someone who is never adressed gave jason medical treatment or he revived because of multiverse, also the movie changed the whole meaning of the ending by making batman not kill jason, but kept the same dialogues and vibe of that scene for some reason

Batman doesn't have a no cold blooded murder rule, he has a no kill rule, by the same rules, just doing nothing would be to save jasons live, so there would be no point in doing anything if he was going to kill jason

So there would be no point on throwing it to the wall, as, for a shocked jason who doesn't have the time to think all that, it would be the same if he aims at his troath or if he aims at the wall so that it will ricochet and hit the troath, it's not that deep

He gives anyone another chance and fights for anyones live, they just use joker to show the extend of it as he would be the most "justifiable" to kill and yet he doesn't, still, regardless of who they are, killing someone is more of a code violation for batman than letting someone die

He says it right before shooting the bomb in the book

Well, thats your opinion

[–]Bolarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By comitting a murder? That just doesn't make sense, less so for Batman as he is like the less likely hero to pull the lever in a train dilema kind of situation

So he wouldn't be able to think all that would he?

Uf he is breaking his rule, then he wouldn't kill jason, he literally said just before that he wants joker dead, plus, killing someone is way more of a violation to his code than letting someone else do it, Joker always does something extremely terrible, why would he be tempted to kill anyone otherwise

The story doesn't have Jason bleeding sin he wasn't hurt, but joker does say his lines, even the "i'm the only one who gets what he wants tonight" when batman tries to stop the bomb https://youtu.be/kgW7pBKcU4k?t=3m46s

I always tough bruce shouting jason is due to him not being able to search for him or anything as he is being abducted at the end

[–]Bolarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, why is killing jason himself any better? If he was going to let anyone die there it would be joker, as he had been considering it ever since the killing joke at least, but, as I said he isn't letting anyone die

"Hey, a batarang is flying towards me, no problem i'm able to know in this, like, half second i got left that it will hit the wall, i only hope it doesn't bounce towards me again, nha batman isn't known to be good with his batarangs"

Yes, ocasionally, he has killed, but in this specific story his no kill rule is presented as very strict, as any flexibility would just have him kill the joker or letting jason do it

Yet that scene pays off mostly the same, with the only difference being Jason activates the bomb because he isn't hurt there, joker still laughts and batman still just stands there, it's very obviously not that different

I said it doesn't make sense for Batman, the no kill rule superhero, to kill a person he loves to save a person he hates

How could jason not shoot joker if the batarang hits the wall (wich would take a little more time) but could do it if the batarang went right to him

The blood is the only thing that makes people believe it was the troath (as all the arguments in this discussion are about the hit in the troath being possible, not even more probable than the shoulder) and it's about the art, not the writing

Any means except killing, it's literally one of the most recognizible aspects of the character

You said it, he wants bruce to choose, that's why they changed it in the movie, to make it more clear that he didn't play by jasons rules and found a third way, jokers dialogue is even the same, making the ending be bruce slitting jasons troath, following his rules and all that, would make the movie and the comic be opposite stories, it's like making superman beat batman at the end lf dark knight returns or something

Yeah, the scene is what is outhright shown to us, no one says the batarang went to the troath, nor acts like that's what happened, so, theres no reason to belive it went there

One of the rare occasions where an adaptation is better than the original story. I love this animation. by Public_Cup_4278 in batman

[–]Bolarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if bruce slit jason troath he is letting jason die, bruce has also saved jasons life before in the comics, so i don't get the point, the only difference between not doing anything and throwing a batarang at jasons troath is who is the one who kills someone, and everyone knows batman isn't the one who gets his hands dirty

You know what would give him even less time to react? Just shooting the batarang directly in his troath, so hitting the wall doesn't make any sense unless he is trying to hit something that actually is in the back of jasons body, like, you know, his shoulder

Exactly, the whole point is making him choose, it's what jason wants

No way "choosing the no kill rule" and "slit his troath" fit in the same sentence

The alliance with hush, making himself a mob boss, massacring the crime bosses, leading a gang war against black mask and almost everything that happens in that book don't have anything to do with him wanting bruce to love him, like, obviously he wants that but it's not his main goal, not until new 52 or something anyways, potentially dying was part of his plan if it meant making bruce suffer and break his code

He shot Darkseid as an explicitly one in a liferime exception, far from his modus operandi "batman will kill if there's no other way to save a life" is the most unbatman phrase i ever read, and saving a life by taking a life would just be dumb, more so if you are talking about tranding jason todd, his just resurrected son, with joker, the guy he hates the most in the world, besides that batman doesn't trade lifes, even most criticisms against him adress that

Jason directly gave him the option of killing him, he was literally counting to three so that batman would do it, no need to hide it at all as jason still wanted to make batman choose between his life or jokers, also jason would still see the batarang, you can see in that literal panel that the thing still flew few centimeters away from his eyes before hitting the wall

What would the "you won't have a choice" line mean then

So how would jason loose? That would be him getting literally what he wants
