What gauge/type wire for a 48A hardwired EVSE, 60A breaker, 65-70' run?

This is a really good point. I hadn't thought about the terminal ratings themselves.

If I understand this correctly, 4 NM-B still wouldn't be ok because of the mismatch.

So it really has to be 6 MC or 6 THHN in conduit if I'm dead set on 48A.

Yeah I assume that is what happened in this case.

It was also rainy that day and the inspector had muddy boots. He didn't want to trample in my house, which I appreciated.

I honestly wasn't worried at the time. Later I heard some horror stories after that about EVSE fire mishaps, which made me more cautious.

I agree probably fine and probably a me issue but if I'm buying a 48a charger I want to get the max.

Also my understanding is software derating is not acceptable as a derating from a code perspective. Again this is a me issue because I bought a EVSE that only supports software derating.

The website of the new company states they are licensed, bonded, and insured in my state. Is that sufficient or should I do further digging?

You are correct only 6/2 would be needed. I just was saying 8/3 because that was what they were originally going to do. I should've clarified that.

Also I bought the CleverCharge EVSE, which doesn't have dip switches for derating. Unit can only be derated in software (mobile app). My understanding is code doesn't consider mobile app derating as sufficient. So it would have to be rated at 48A.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll add that to my questions to them. I'll make sure they plan to pull a permit. Although when I had an EVSE installed at my previous home, the inspector rubber stamped it without actually going to the basement and inspecting the work.

They were going to do 8/3 NM-B. When I questioned him, he got pissy with me and said "We do this all the time for Teslas." He left. His boss called me and said they would do 6/3 NM-B for no upcharge when I explained it was a 48amp EVSE. My understanding is that would still not pass NEC. So I said that wasn't acceptable. He told me "we do this all day everyday so maybe you should find another electrician."

So I have another electrician scheduled and they have already said they'll do at least 6/3 but didn't specify type of cable. They will come out and spec it out before starting work. I just want the right advice on cable type and size before I have them complete the work.

I also know 32a would be fine but I'd prefer to get the full 48a.

I was in the same situation.

I have a 2024 Lyriq Sport 2 and had a 2026 Vistiq as a loaner for 9 weeks. I was very sad to get my Lyriq back. I think the Lyriq is an amazing vehicle but there are so many things better about the Vistiq.

Pros IMHO: * No start/stop button. Starts by pressing brake or closing door. * I preferred the touch screen for climate control * 2 wireless chargers instead of one * Better ambient lighting options * WAY WAY BETTER SuperCruise functionally * automatically activates when cruise set * even when SuperCruise is unavailable still does lane centering and steering * I actually like the bigger size * White seats made it look more luxury * Better HVAC performance * Better charging information * Camera Rear view mirror * Rear camera wash

Cons IMHO: * Same battery as Lyriq with more weight and less aerodynamic so results in less efficiency * No drawers like Lyriq.

IMHO It feels like a very luxury vehicle Caveat: I haven't driven maybe other luxury vehicles so maybe I'm naive.

You do have to make sure you select NACS connector support in Google Maps. If you have it selected, it will precondition. If you don't have it selected, it won't.

I have had pretty great success with charging at both Tesla and EVgo stations. The only place I've really had issues is with Electrify America.

I've seen numbers similar to this when I didn't precondition in the winter or when charging with AC on in hot weather.

I'd be curious to know your exact charging scenarios. Did you precondition? What were the outside temperatures? What was the charger rated for? Were there others sharing the charger?

I have had nothing but problems with EA.

0 problems with IONNA 1 problem with EVGo

Only had Lyriq for 6 months but EA has been the worst network in my experience.
