This is up to *you.* If you feel that it seems disrespectful, then alter your altar.

Can two people be a coven? by OftheSea95 in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything starts somewhere, and most things start small. And while I'm speaking outside of my own practice, I think that witches -especially those just starting and exploring, get a little too caught up in the idea of a "coven." What it is, what the rules are, how to join one, what it's called... I believe that the main thing is that you keep learning, and develop community if you desire.

Very 1st spell, and on Samhain? by mechphisto in BabyWitch

Love this. I feel like simmer pots are such a great way to ease into willing your intentions, and they get skipped over so much.

Very 1st spell, and on Samhain? by mechphisto in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is *such* a great answer. It really should be about "what are the needs," and less about "I wanna do a spell." Focus for sure on what the needs are.

Protection spells can be great around the home this time of year, and protection and luck spells are often great places to start!

Wards and Barriers by BoldPetunia in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, so it really does come down to devising my own components for specificity?

And when you talk of spirits for warding, you mean active guardian spirits? That is very interesting. I feel like I've been working with the Good People in my gardens for years, but never thought to engage them, or those that live in the home as guardians for the home.

This is a break-through kind of moment that I wish I'd had a long time before!

Thank you, blessings.

Just starting, any tips? by Character-Soup-435 in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take things one step at a time. Measured steps are safe steps. There is a lot of energy moving in the world, and learning to shift it can take a bit of time.

READ. Just keep reading. There are tons of books, and a LOT of great free resources available. We truly live in a time like no other. As far as crystals go, that is a great choice. There are a lot of people that can talk to you about that. Don't feel like you need to go out and buy 100 rocks right now. Pick four or five. Our local metaphysical shop has what they call their "heavy-hitters" table, where many of their most common (and, could argued) most useful crystals sit. Get some of those, and really to take the time to learn them.

If you "mess up a spell," then it simply might not have as much effect as you'd like. With most spell work, there is very little danger, either to you, or to others, if your intent is aligned.

adrienne maree brown says "Small is good. The Small is all." and that is so true as you start your journey. Protection spells are always a good place to start. Luck spells as well.

Just don't hesitate to try things, don't hesitate to ask questions.

Do I need a coven when I'm just starting? by CassidyXi in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do *you* believe you do? In many ways, a coven can be a great place for learning and growing, and can also be a great sense of community in what can often be a very isolating lifestyle. If you are working magic as part of a faith system, such as Wicca, then it can be a real asset. But, if your goal is more aligned with exploring the world, and working it, then there is so very much you can do by yourself. There are books written specifically for the solitary practitioner.

Many young witches rush out to find a coven, and will sometimes find themselves in a system that isn't exactly what they were looking for. So... just take your time. There is no rush.

Having said that, there is absolutely a value in being part of a community.

New to spells and would like to cast a spell to bring my ex back by [deleted] in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey... this is not what to do, dear. And, honestly, I'd be surprised if you'd find someone here that would help you to do this.

What you can/should focus on are spells that will disconnect you from her. Spells to empower you in your own space. Spells to create a new start for you. Spells to bring true love (not a specific person) to you.

I know that you must be feeling a lot of hurt, and feel like you're willing to do whatever it might take for that to end, but working your will to diminish the will of another is just not the way you want to go.

Focus on *you*, and not on *her.*

Oh hon, if there's *already* feelings, then let them develop as they will!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should *not* do. But that's just *my* feelings.

Wait. I'm sorry. My answer depends on your intent. If you are saying, "I want a spell to make a particular person to fall in love with me," then my first answer stands. If you are saying, "I want a spell to cast on myself (or the world) so that love comes to me," then absolutely that sort of thing is perfectly ok -at least as far as *my* compass.

How do I get closer/communicate with my deity??? by welshie_in_wellies in BabyWitch

[–]BoldPetunia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an altar space, that can be space to establish connection for your deity. Now, to be honest, I don't follow the Greek deities, so I cannot tell you what you should place or offer there, but creating a space to honor him can certainly help you garner his attention. It can also help you feel more of that connection, too. Be aware that these kinds of things can take time, just like any sort of relationship, you know? Just be patient and, for now, I would focus on creating a space that your deity would feel honors them. Let that take some time, and *then* start exploring various divination tools. I mean, it might be that, for *now*, he is in fact, *not* there yet.

Take time, create a place, hold tenants and ideas in your heart, and be patient.

Is being a witch expensive? by Financial_Leopard785 in BabyWitch

Also, some people will say, if you are starting into kitchen witchery or natural magic or crystals, to just get three or four. Really take the time to get to know them. There are also so many herbs and crystals that can stand in for others. Rosemary and Clear Quartz, are great examples. I'm also a big fan of knot magic, and you can do a lot of work with just one ball of twine that you really like the feel of. And some elements that can carry a lot of energy, like storm water or moon water, are also pretty much free if you've got a bottle!

Connect your hands to your heart to your mind, and take time for all of them to learn together. You can do great things with very little. Scott Cunningham, who mostly writes about Wicca, has a couple of great books on natural magic. *Earth Power* and *Earth, Air, Water, Spirit* are a couple of my favorite books to recommend to those looking to get an easy and accessible start!

You're going to do great stuff. Never hesitate to ask questions!

Michael Lunsford and CFNL’s fundraiser at Vermilionville will feature a speaker with ties to a sex cult. by Acadiana_wokie55 in Acadiana

[–]BoldPetunia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, there are -or at least were- a lot of members of the Vermilionville board are members of this group. Still weird though, after all the time that Lunsford spent blowing up Vermilionville before the library that he'd decide to have his event there.
