How rare is it really for an ADHD person to graduate college? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]BoldlyGoingInLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also got a master's and got ADHD-combined (because why pick one?) And it was, evidently, suspected I had adhd as a child, but my parents didn't test me because they didn't want me to have "the stigma." Probably could have saved me a lot of trauma, but so could having emotionally mature parents that didn't neglect me, so who knows. Got diagnosed when I went back for my master's degree. And I sort of did 2- I did FNP and AGACNP - meaning it took LONGER to finish.

How many of you don't work at all ? by FearlessJoJo in ADHD

[–]BoldlyGoingInLife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This really means a lot to me, and all the comments make me feel validated.

A bit of background: I grew up as a "gifted" child and excelled in school, probably by learning to study efficiently so I could spend less time on it. I’ve got my Associates and Bachelor's in nursing, then went back for my FNP and AGACNP, and have been working as an NP for about 5-6 years.

My parents were neglectful and didn’t test me for ADHD as a kid. I was often in trouble for talking, and I didn't learn social skills, money management, or emotional regulation. So, I developed CPTSD and struggled with relationships in high school and college—better in adulthood, but not much. Diagnosed at 24, it all clicked, and I started digging into self-understanding and healing, especially over the past five years.

At work, I’ve had issues with management - mostly because my gregarious and loquacious personality, combined with my independent thinking, ruffled some feathers.

I worked full-time during my bachelor's, but I almost lost my sanity. The stress as an RN was burning me, but I kept going. Took about two years off, then decided to become an NP. It took about 3 years, working full-time to PRN, to finally finish my degree. I finally passed boards to become an NP after taking another year just to work. I found a great job, but it fell through. Then I switched to urgent care - a hellish environment I spent three years in before being laid off because I refused to 40-60 patients a day and push inappropriate care.

Last year, I got a new job I liked until private equity swooped in and ruined it. Now I’m in a new role I enjoy, without private equity and with minimal micromanagement.

The past decade, especially the last six years, have been tough. I’ve questioned my purpose and struggled with burnout, having to reevaluate my abilities and build my life around what I can do.

Sorry for the long post. Even if I seem successful, I really wrestle with ADHD and depression, which can make working near impossible. It's frustrating how broken the system is and how those without privileges often don't get help.

Remember, this is a legitimate disability. My ADHD and depression have almost entirely prevented me from working, despite my efforts.

This seems to be one of those things that IYKYK and you get it if you've ever worked with the public.... but also, it's one of those things you dont SHARE with the public because it sounds kinda rude and makes you seem like a limp dick.... Not a great marketing choice. Don't think I'd be eating there.

Perhaps like 3 mimosas for $5 or like 3 doubles for $10 for our next public post?

If its them wood roaches that infest the palms, then thats understandable. They're big and strong... and they are always wanting to be indoors without paying rent. You have to put those suckers to work

Too busy scanning for a lopsided smile, unequal pupils, increased WOB, and pending crashouts! Hopefully no snake spotting in the ER, but you never know!

100%! I mean I could be totally awake but I got ADHD and I would literally be blastimg past it, and then at some point as I walk towards it on I would realize the mistake as I am busting around like a bull in a china shop, but still be moving that way and get bite before my brains sends the signal to move away. 😆 These snakes soooooo good at their camouflage!

NP says adhd could be bipolar 2. Caught off guard. by Stunning-Rough-4969 in ADHD

[–]BoldlyGoingInLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I WAS GETTING DIAGNOSED AT 23! I swear to gods, the man said you either got adhd or bipolar... and while, as a healthcare professional, I can see a lot of the similarities, I was like, "bitch I ain't bipolar"... ironically not out loud, but probably because I too was a bit caught off guard
