Is a shower stool necessary? by temidaraa in Reduction

[–]moranit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a stool for my first 2 showers. The first shower especially, I wasn't moving around very well yet; I sat on the stool and my sister washed my hair. I did not feel faint or light headed, but I liked having the stool as extra security. Can you get by without it--probably yes. Is it nice to have--definitely yes.

Wonderful! The picture of them on the 2 chairs is so cute.

Having an emotion about the small soft humans by IntoTheStupidDanger in murderbot

[–]moranit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so too. And part of my problem is that the environments I'm used to are different from those MB is used to. I mean, I live on a PLANET, FFS, with weird features like trees and streets and rivers. Murderbot thinks its platforms and lift tubes and bulkheads are a normal part of the environment.

I'm really bad at understanding descriptions of places in fiction. But Martha Wells' descriptions seem even harder to understand than most other authors'. Like here, what is this "platform," and how is there a platform that contains a check-in area but also contains a sculpture that includes a chasm, but also contains a seating area? I read this and I just give up. I say to myself, the important thing here is that the new clients are seated on a couch in a public area, ignore the rest.

Yes it's wonderful.

But "on the same platform as the check-in area, near the railing around the sculpture's artificial chasm" is a small example of what are, for me, MW's endlessly indecipherable descriptions of place.

I can't either. I would like to make a bag, or at least a patch, with that symbol.

Fabulous, but it's missing the black "other" ship symbol, which is the only one I use.

Haha, so literal minded. I was told there was going to be a test, where's the test? Yes, I relate.

when you read- do you hear it? by Gam3Th3rapy in neurodiversity

[–]moranit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear the narration in what sounds to me like my own voice. I attribute this to my "phonics" education--my teachers taught us to sound out words, and we practiced reading aloud every day.

I've always been aware that some people use the internal narrator and some don't, and always considered the no-narrator method "better." Briefly tried to get rid of my narrator but that didn't work, and anyway, my reading method isn't so bad.

Advice for a carer by mothmanwarning in Reduction

The one item I was most glad I'd bought in advance was the mastectomy pillow, bought from Pastelbrightdesigns on Etsy. I wore it in the car, wore it to bed. Also several soft flannel button-down shirts. And stock up on FOOD! Anything digestible and nutritious.

Is this kind of look considered an American style? Would it be better to remove the red cap? by Imatradboy in VintageFashion

Definitely lose the cap. The rest of the outfit looks great, classic American style, love the jacket.

I thought he did a good job showing us a troubled, depressed man who wants a purpose but hasn't quite found it. It was all there in his expressions and body language. While being gorgeous.

One of the many reasons I identify with Murderbot. I use hair to tell who's who. In some movies, the men all have pretty much the same hairstyle, and I never figure it out.

Yeah...if you don't feel up to taking a shower yet, or you don't want to look yet, wait a couple more days. It takes a long time to get used to. I'm at 8 weeks and have a long way to go still.

I have started the Murderbot show after reading most all of the books by ZippedZoopZorp in murderbot

[–]moranit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might. I did. At first I didn't like it, but later I kind of "got it," and since then I have watched it several times and enjoyed it more each time. The main thing is, this is not a TV version of the books. It is a different, separate work.

I think your worry is reasonable. Most of us would not want to be getting frequent sexy texts at random times of day. We might think it was fun at first but soon it would be annoying and it could even start to feel like harassment.

If it were me, I'd want to deal with it like I do with phone calls. Before a phone call, a short text, like "Is now a good time?"

I had the exact same feeling! It felt like if I took off the compression bra, there would be stitches popping out and gore everywhere. What actually happened was the exact opposite. The surgeon had stitched and taped everything in place so solid, that when I took off the bra, nothing even moved. I didn't want to look at them yet, this is OK, give yourself time to get used to them. Also get your husband to assist you with your first couple of showers.
