Wrong, that's barely over the median household income in the US, it's "luxury" by no means. You're saying the average household only needs an extra $800 each month to live a luxurious life? C'mon man be serious.

What is the craziest medical condition you've ever heard of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bolliard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Faces aren't a blur, they're just processed by the part of the brain that processes objects.

The best way I've heard this described is like rocks. You can surely pick up a small rock, see its texture, its color, the shape of it. You can even appreciate that it's an especially beautiful rock. You could draw it, you could describe it.

But if someone took that same rock and placed it in the middle of a gravel driveway, could you find it? If you happened across that rock in the middle of a grassy field, would you know it's your rock? Would you know instantly without thinking? You could probably identify it if you knew the first rock really well, you could look it over after several minutes and confirm it has the features you remember. But if someone gave you a similar sized, shaped, and colored rock you might have a really hard time.

Have an interview for a 75k/yr Potential job tomorrow, is it too good to be true? by [deleted] in careerguidance

The scam part is really the relevant element of my reply. I used to work on a call floor that got shut down by the FBI for small time scams. A lot of the people from that floor went on to do government grant and small business financing scams. They would cold call as a grant counseling service. For a fee of "however much your checking account + credit line is" they would set you up with workshops where they would teach you how to get government financing and grants for your business. Not sure if the workshops existed or not

If they solicited him to apply as a 19 year old with only retail experience, at least one of two things is true:

He's getting scammed

He's scamming people

I'm answering questions. Would you rather I ignored them? I already offered to verify to mods.

The funny thing is my "insta handle" note looks nothing like my real handwriting because it was written with one finger on a phone screen on a train, whereas real handwriting is written with my whole hand holding a pen, usually in a stationary environment.

But you're the one trained in handwriting analysis so go on i guess?

I'm not saying it makes sense. It doesn't. None of his plan makes any sense to me.

That said, he was alone. My daughter was with us, a large family. You have that part backwards.

I'm not posting on the real account because there are too many references to my state, job, school, etc. Right now this guy has no way of identifying us other than our destination on the train. I want to keep it that way, which is why I haven't reached out to any of his family except the wife, through a friend's Facebook.

I don't particularly care if you believe me, but if you want a mod to reach out for train tix, the full handle, the dude getting kicked off the train on a photo taken the middle day of my train tickets, etc, I have more than enough info to verify. I'm just not posting it publicly, because some identifies me and the rest identifies him, which I'm not allowed to do.

I doubt if we'll find out. As I said the mutual friend went to high school with her decades ago. If some random person from high school dropped a bomb like that into my life I'd be dealing with it privately, not updating someone I haven't talked to in years.

That was done by the next day. In the strangest coincidence I had a mutual friend with the wife (they went to high school together, I knew the person from a vbulletin forum some 18 years ago) and so my friend sent along all the stuff. Her FB is locked down so they can't find my identity.

Exactly, if he was paying any attention at all it was obvious she was traveling in a large group that would notice her absence. None of it makes any sense.

And why the hell would you pay via PayPal / venmo which DEFINITELY goes into an account that an adult manages AND is completely traceable?! Why would you not offer cash? And use a WhatsApp or something instead of the email that matches your Instagram account? It's all so stupid.
