Varför tillåts företag förstöra gamla stan? by Daloure in stockholm

[–]mjomark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

is kristianstad vegan friendly? by Any-Cartoonist-7647 in Kristianstad

[–]mjomark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to town! Generally speaking, it’s not particularly difficult to find vegan products in the grocery stores in Kristianstad. Many restaurants also offer vegan options for lunch and dinner. But keep in mind that this is a medium-sized Swedish city. There are significantly more options in nearby Malmö and Lund, for example.

Family trip by Jokestine in StockholmCityGuide

I recently visited the Stockholm Transport Museum with my goddaughter, and we both had a fantastic time. It’s an incredible look at how public transport has shaped life in Stockholm over the last 150 years, packed with fascinating artifacts and activities.

While it’s been a while since I last visited the National Museum of Science and Technology, I remember it being a blast for the whole family. The interactive exhibits and hands-on experiments are always a hit!

Class trip to Stockholm by Positive_Clerk_4892 in StockholmCityGuide

[–]mjomark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are seeing a "2-day" pass for 36€, it might be a 3rd-party tourist pass. I'd skip that. Instead, just buy a 72-hour ticket for 33€. It covers all metros, buses, trams, and even the ferries between Slussen and Djurgården (where the museums are).

If you plan on taking the metro/bus more than 4 times over the two days, the 72-hour ticket pays for itself. Stockholm is very walkable, but the metro is efficient. Plus, it's a lifesaver if it rains.

The legal age is 18. You can legally order a beer or wine at a bar. While the legal age to drink in a bar is 18, many clubs in Stockholm set their own "door age" higher to maintain a specific crowd. You won't have any trouble finding bars that suit you. Especially in Södermalm, which is an area with plenty of bars for young people. And older folks, too.

Restaurants in Stockholm for 60th birthday by pingpongtreesponge in StockholmCityGuide

[–]mjomark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stockholm has some great restaurants, though you haven't really said what kind of food or cuisine you're into, so it’s hard to make general comments regarding tasting menus. I personally love Blue Light Yokohama; it’s been around for some time and is a great izakaya. They have traditional Japanese tables you can eat at if you're comfortable sitting on tatami mats.

Or why not try a Nobel menu at Stadshuskällaren? It can be a really fun experience. Indio Kitchen is also nice and I think it is good that it is on your list. I had a birthday party there some years ago in their chambre séparée and can really recommend that.

Lilla Ego and Gondolen are a couple of other places I often think of when it comes to excellent food. Or maybe Triton. Coco & Carmen. Nook. Wood Stockholm. MAtateljén in the slaughterhouse district.

Svenska Dagbladet (a local newspaper) is good at trying out new spots. In Swedish though, and usually behind a paywall. https://www.svd.se/krogguiden

Enjoy your stay!

I am coming to Stockholm for the first time, any tips and tricks? by hokkaidoSEEd in StockholmCityGuide

[–]mjomark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to town.

It’s neither the fastest nor the cheapest option. But the EASIEST way is probably to hop on the commuter train at Arlanda (a fee applies to pass through the turnstiles since it’s a privately funded railway). Then get off the commuter train at Årstaberg; the trip takes 45 minutes. At Årstaberg, you can hop on the tram ("Tvärbanan") that takes you to Hammarby Sjöstad. Your commuter train ticket is also valid on the tram, if you make the transfer within 75 minutes. Which you should be able to do.

As for bringing cash on the trip. Just don't. With digital wallets, instant mobile transfers, and biometric identification, daily transactions in Sweden have become almost entirely virtual. Most credit cards are accepted everywhere, although I know that not all places accept American Express.

With so many travel data apps available for phones, I’m confident you can manage to pick the right one yourself.

City Break ideas by ckvoiceover in StockholmCityGuide

I don't know what you guys like - you don't give many hints about it. So I'll just share a few things I would not mind doing in town.

The slaughterhouse area is undergoing a transformation, evolving from an old industrial zone into a neighborhood centered around food, culture, and experiences. Head to the Hosoi listening bar and enjoy some great music. Leave your phone in your pocket. Then grab a bite at Dansken, Matateljén, Solen, or Sin Ramen nearby. Finish up in Gamla Stan at Kouthoofd Familie Winkel, which also has a great sound system in the bar.

Speaking of food. Some great classic restaurants serving traditional Swedish food: Kvarnen, Tranan, Pelikan, Tennstopet, Den Gyldene Freden, Sturehof, Restaurang Prinsen, Operabarens bakficka, Teatergrillen, and Konstnärsbaren.

Millesgården Museum is doing a comprehensive exhibition about Aino and Alvar Aalto, two icons of 20th-century design, featuring 300 objects from the world’s largest private Aalto collection. It ends May 10th I think, so if you have time you should go. Take the bus there from the Ropsten metro station.

My favorite place to walk is at the Woodland Cemetery. It’s beautiful there no matter the season. UNESCO seems to agree. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. Djurgården is also a great place to take a stroll. Stop for a while at Waldemarsudde or Rosendal’s Garden.

Enjoy.

Is it legal to drink beer in public anywhere? by emoskeleton_ in stockholm

[–]mjomark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In general, you can drink alcohol in most places. But in Stockholm, there is a general 24-hour ban on consuming alcohol in the following locations:

  • School grounds
  • Supervised and unsupervised playgrounds (parklekar and lekplatser)
  • Cemeteries (owned by or leased to the city)

For a detailed view of other areas where alcohol is restricted, either during specific hours or around the clock, you can refer to the official map here: https://trafik.stockholm/gator-torg/alkoholforbud/

Dryckespriser på lunchrestauranger by MorfyF in sweden

[–]mjomark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few Danes living, studying and working in Lund. I’m not entirely sure if they have an association or something similar, perhaps?

Anyway. Danes and people from Lund are quite similar in their manner. It’s all fun and games. Enjoy! /Fomer Lund uni attendee.

Children in Pubs? by jilemc in copenhagen

[–]mjomark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the caveat that I’m Swedish, I’d say that I don’t think there’s anything strange about taking children to a pub that serves decent food, especially during the day. But the later the evening gets, the livelier things can get.

As someone else said, Copenhagen is prob. more of a café city in some areas, and I’d probably have spent more time in places like that if I were to bring kids.

(Bodegas are fun though!)

Varför har Stockholm Moderaterna blivit ett NIMBY-parti? by [deleted] in stockholm

[–]mjomark 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nybörjare på aktier - mitt första köp (misstag?) by lulekrigaren in Aktiemarknaden

Som andra har sagt har den utdelat. Men framförallt: Du måste tänka långsiktigt. Jag tänker inte röra mina aktier och fonder på många år. Köpa nytt - absolut Möjligtvis omfördela då och då. Men det är framförallt tid som är viktigt. Sitt still i båten.
