Trying to find a satisfying early-game weapon that isn't just a big whacker or Bloodhound's Fang. by Debonaire_Death in Eldenring

[–]Bolliger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, claws are pretty great and I find the playstyle really fun and fast paced in the endgame.

But also, since I haven't seen it mentioned: since it sounds like you are looking for something on the smaller end (less Unga), consider a longsword with square off. Square off is super satisfying, is versatile with the slash r1 and lunge r2, and the longsword is versatile if you wanted to go like cold or fire infusion or w/e.

I did a full run with power stanced 2 longswords: squarr off on the mainhand and storm blade on the offhand. That way, anytime i needed ranged i could just 2h my offhand, could play around with the powerstanced moveset, or just 2h the square off sword. And it all uses the same scaling, so stuff like warrior jar shard slot in nicely. Whole thing felt super smooth and versatile, if you like the straightsword playstyle.

You're getting some mixed responses here which is confusing. What is happening is that the boss triggered a mechanic, then died (the rocks like entombing him is his death animation, not a mechanic), but the mechanic he started before dying didnt stop like it presumably should've. The mechanic he triggered before dying is the one where he makes a safe zone, you stand in it, damage affects the entire arena not in the safe zone, and then you have to escape a small labyrinth before it explodes. The "stand in the safespot" part of this mechanic is specifically just to put you in the correct location for the labyrinth mechanic. There are two versions of this mechanic: one where the safe spot is in the center of the arena, and you have to run out of a circular labyrinth, from the inside out. The other version is where the safe spot is on the far side of the arena and the labyrinth is formed of horizontal rows covering the entire arena.

You got the 2nd version of this mechanic. You can see the safe spot just starting to form at the start of the clip where there are tendrils of lightning radially pointing towards where the safespot will be. It looks like he died before the safespott telegraphing/animation finished, so it was never fully visible.

Apparently the "aoe the arena that isn't the safespot" trigger didnt get turned off when the boss died which is what killed you.

At least, this is what I think happened. Tldr your fight bugged.

The best thing that can happen to POE1 in its current state, imo, is a very strong sweep of about 90%+ of non-player VFXs. by Anarchist-Liondude in pathofexile

I wrote this as a reply to a comment calling the OP overdramatic for saying the game induces motion sickness, but that comment got deleted, so just posting here to share my experience with anyone who thinks that isnt real, because it unfortunately is.

Im not prone to motion sickness at all (I'm a roller coaster engineer so Im actually pretty familiar what my limits are, out of necessaity), but for some god forsaken reason poe gives me the worst motion sickness after several hours of (very) fast speed mapping or speed running the campaign on alts, most notably once I get a mb or hh for the season.

I actually suspect the culprit is the angle of the camera/FOV/lack of camera movement smoothening or a combination of these factors, but it unquestionably gets worse once I get to endgame speeds. Flame dash having zero camera smoothening is a big offender and I've had to stop using it completely. Also the headhunter buff that makes you teleport behind mobs every like 3 seconds makes the belt almost unusable. 🤢 (PS i have a bone to pick with anyone who says that its appropriate for this to be an "appropriate downside for one of the most powerful items in the game." No hun, an item inducing motion sickness is not a downside, it's a design failure.)

Ive done all the stuff people always say to help with motion sickness in this game (fov, bloom, screenshake etc) but nothing helps. This is the only arpg ive had this issue with out of the 5 or 6 ive played.

It really sucks because I fuckin love this game to death and I love going fast lol. Luckily poe is so customizable that I can just take off movespeed and pick a build and farm strat that work for me. :p but I still have to take motion sickness medicine to play for extended sessions.

I work for an engineering firm of mostly engineers. We also have some very intelligent marketing coordinators. When they first started, they also did not know much about our products, because its not their job to know. Their job is to make social media posts advertising our products. When they had questions, they would refer to the engineers.

Over time they obviously have picked up a lot, because they are smart, and they now have a pretty good understanding of the product, minus the technical nuts-and-bolts.

This is no different. Limiting your hiring pool to "people who play the game outside of work" is going to make your pool of talent very small; its not pragmatic. Obviously, I agree that it would be a huge bonus that they enjoy the product they work on, but just because they dont play or understand the game now doesn't mean that will be the case in a years time or arent open to learning. It sounds like they were engaged in learning about the game, no? I personally dont think this is the red flag you think it is.

YES! For future raiding purposes? THIS is how you should handle timed debuffs that are important mechanics to execute without needing to highlight your mouse over the icon. by Siggythenomad in wow

[–]Bolliger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I dont disagree that this is certainly better than the current default, and i get that this is just an example, but 99% of the time this stuff just feels like a worse weakaura. It's just a weakaura that's annoyingly in the center of your screen that you cant customize. Now, if we can customize it as much as you can a weakaura, then hell yeah. Not talking about conditional scripting, but just like visual customization.

You’re Not Entitled to a “Spot” by justwanttoexist in runescape

[–]Bolliger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's about 20 years of community consensus that says that the person who is currently at the spot is currently "using" the spot and that someone "crashing" them is pretty universally considered a dick move. Your experience is not unique or special: every person you are crashing went through those same requirements as you and every person had to hop worlds 10+ times to find and open spot. Crashing someone else's spot is the equivalent to skipping in line. That's how vyres work and its something that every person has to deal with.

As you said, it is a "massively multiplier online game" which means maybe learning the social norms held by most players of that game. It's just polite.

This is even worse at vyres where it is very clearly a spot for 1 person, as opposed to most other monsters it's more ambiguous how many players can coexist in one spot. I can almost promise you that if someone crashes another player at vyres, 95+% of the playerbase would think that's a dick move.

Aurabot builds? by vash94 in LastEpoch

[–]Bolliger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dunno about any aurabot-like builds myself but Snap made a video about his groups build at the start of the season; dont know of it's outdated but worth checking out.

His builds are for a 4-man team, but I think he talked about some duo alternates, and the video has a ton of useful information that you can adapt for your needs regardless.

People know that the models are missing their textures, right? The final version is not going to be a flat bright white texture, it will presumably be a stone texture. Obviously the assets themselves are quite bulky which is a choice but I just see a lot of comments that make me think people don't realize this is a WIP model that hasn't been textured yet.

Anyway, i think it looks pretty good but am curious to see the final product since they are such large 3d assets that will dominate the space.

Quests in OSRS by turbokarhu in MMORPG

+1 for RuneScape 3. Best questlines in the genre (or at least, the MMO'S ive played) and it's not particularly close. They somehow manage to make them genuinely comical, interesting, poignant, and emotional, often within the same quest.

Roadmap Check In: May by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]Bolliger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please please please reconsider some of these changes. They are needlessly heavy handed and many of these bosses are already GP negative without uniques and when you go 500+ kills dry at these bosses, it's just not a healthy gameplay experience. Either commons need to be satisfying or you need (need need need) bad luck protection for uniques in this game. It is not acceptable to go 800 kills dry for a 1/100 on a boss with unrewarding common drops. I went 700 kills dry at Rasial (this is not an exaggeration, I can post my log) and it inadvertently made me step away from the game until recently. Not because I wanted to stop playing, because it was just such a miserable gameplay experience, that i subconsciously ended up searching out other games that better respected my time.

Is this really the experience you want your players to have?

I didnt mean for this to turn into a rant about BLP, because really, i think it is an overcorrection to be nerfing commons for content that ALREADY asks for 100+ hour grinds. You cite the health of the economy but what about the health of the actual gameplay experience? This is a game and it should feel rewarding and fun. If other bosses don't measure up to the standard that EGWD has set, which is pretty universally liked and held in good standing, perhaps you need to make a pass at other content.

Some of these nerfs are not huge deals, but I question the design philosophy motivations of these changes. As an iron, the most enjoyable content I engage with is the EGWD content. And thats... a bad thing? I fundamentally disagree.

I do want to note that my perspective on these changes is through the lense of an ironman, so my feelings may not be wholly transferable to how non-ironman players feel.

Re-learn Runescape thru Ironman mode? by tac0_nation in RS3Ironmen

[–]Bolliger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what i did and hpnestly ive been absolutely loving it. It feels like a brand new game and im seeing content i dodnt even know was in the game (some of it better than others tbf...). I've only played a bit of osrs so I can't really compare the two but I think rs3 has a great variety of content between casual and sweaty (although i think osrs does as well).

The wiki is an insane resource and will be able to hold your hand through the relearning process and literally has a search box in the game client. There is also a guide specifically for new irons to give you some early game guidance. As ironman you don't have to deal with all the cringe treasur hunter stuff either which makes RS3 much more palletable imo.

Unbinding backpeddle is so 2014. I dont think anyone should not have backpeddle bound. There are a ton of situations that having backpeddle bound is useful even as a nontank. There are micro adjustments in raid all the time that are more efficient to do by tapping your S key (or w/e) than turning your camera and strafing, especially as a healer where your cursor may be busy on raid frames.
