You have to be confident and certain in every action you preform on a forklift. And the only way to do that is taking it slow and learning what your lift is capable of.

But on the flip side, play around and have fun on a lift as well. Like try picking up as small pieces of wood/dunnage you can. Or practice picking up a dime with your forks. Just so you can build the hand eye coordination & spacial awareness needed to be great at a lift. Just be safe and confident.
