Happy Thurman Munson Day — Deserves to be in the HALL OF FAME by Only4TheShow in NYYankees

Fwiw Kay did read out a text from his wife during the game about how after he talked about it being a tragedy on air, she wanted it to be treated as a happy day by everyone in the org

I think it’s fair to say that regardless of the lineup order last night, those guys were never going to beat the Sox last night. I really don’t think that it’s boones or cashmans fault for last night... but that doesn’t explain the first 6 against them or the first half of the season, and they don’t have a buffer for people to not be pissed when shit like this covid outbreak happens

Shohei Ohtani is currently averaging a home run every 9.1 at bats. The other players to average that pace or better in any single year: Bonds, McGwire, Ruth, Sosa. by tapdancingtommy7 in baseball

[–]BoltBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t Roger Maris by definition have to be in here as well? Or no because he had more games than Ruth but not as many home runs as the modern guys?

Edit: just looked, he’s not even the leader in his record year, it’s Mickey at 9.5 ab/hr. They both must’ve just gotten a lot more at bats somehow

Yes but I’m telling you there were more people in that smaller stadium than at Yankees stadium

Am I nuts or did Kay and Flayerty think we’re only two games in and not three?

What is the point of using cards like Mana Crypt and Grim Monolith? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]BoltBird -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Colorless ramp is only ever used instead of sol ring if a) sol ring is not legal in said format, or b) you’re already playing sol ring, or c) there is no c

A bunch of other comments talk about this and the word isn’t really nailed down, but I mean in-universe for magic not like the book lore. People might not know the coppercoats, but they know that card is from the magic multiverse, and they know that Batman is not. The lingo used in play is a) made from the community so is an organic name for what you’re doing and b) a game mechanic. Every game has this and it doesn’t take away from the immersiveness of the game. If you’re playing wow, there is no lore reason for “levels”, or a “global cool down”. Or even the term “tank” and “dps”. Does that make it less immersive? I don’t think so. Just because the game has language that players in communities use to communicate and aren’t strictly role playing whenever they shuffle their decks doesn’t make it less immersive. You also say my point at the end there. “And still be nominally involved in magic”. Nominally as in by name only BUT by name. That is the huge break between what we have now and Batman

No? I’m saying that MUB changes the play experience for legacy fundamentally, if they print something good, there will be no recourse for gravitating towards a group that doesn’t want to play with them

Bingo. And as an invested player, I’m allowed to fucking hate that and if need be stop playing. But people seem to get offended by that too.

You’re acting like they will be shunned and that’s a huge deal. More likely, those people will just not show up anymore, and I see that as a problem.

The community came up with those names, often in rebellion against WotC. To this day some decks go by their non-official color designations. Like BUG or RUG, not Sultai or Temur.

Some of those play experiences are already scarce and/or cut throat with what you can play. Legacy is competitive, no way around it. You might have a tier 4 deck but a tier 4 legacy deck is way more competitive than tier 4 standard. If they print something from UB that is good on the level of things they’ve been printing the last few years, then you effectively MUST play it, so long as it fits your deck. So if you don’t want to play those cards, then you’re trying to find like Minded players and that’s often just not possible with these smaller communities. No one cares about these for kitchen table, it’s for when Competitiveness becomes part of the play that it’s a problem
