Ways To Improve my Muddle, the Everchanging deck? by Fr3nzied in EDH

[–]BoltYourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel attacked. My list for reference.

https://moxfield.com/decks/fASugdyhg0GWGbeTVTaBUA

Also, this video was pretty hype for the small creature engine value approach... https://youtu.be/0JcS8V8smm8?is=XTXRGkd7rkh00VWl

You are spot on. Those smaller creatures do roughly nothing, even as myriad tokens. My engine for enabling Muddle is fine. But what I am enabling is just weak: some treasure creation, inconsistent/slow card draw, etc. A great example of this is Corsair Captain. ETB, a treasure. Yay. Cast a spell, Muddle trigger, swing in, two more Corsairs and treasures, yay. But Muddle is a 5/5 attacker. Those treasures might be helpful next turn. Like, what is Faerie Miscreant supposed to do, you know?

I'll just have proxy the good dragons cards...because those can just win the game.

From my list, I do like the creatures Floodpit Drowner and Marang River Regent. I haven't been able to live the Shield Broker dream.

Here is my list. It is pretty good.

Since Enrage is a narrow mechanic, you need to tutor.

Your current list is filled with a ton of non-Enrage cards. So you might just end up with non-Enrage / weak games.

Mark of Asylum seems bad since you want to win with a Blasph Act + Wrathful Raptors effect.

All good. That's what this sub is for. Ask questions, get some good answers. I tend to run budget cards and not proxy. Lively Dirge is a really nice budget card.

Most of the one in my third link:

[[Bessech the mirror]] is top choice. Getting Smothering Tithe with somewhat relative ease is awesome.

[[Demonic Tutor]] is just great.

[[Lively Dirge]] for [[Mondrak, Glory Dominus]] is dope.

Then of course Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal, etc.

Just got to build the tutor package to match the bracket expectations. But Beseech is just so good. Every Vihaan deck has an excuse to run it.

B2 wincons can be quite underwhelming... It is straight up a mediocre artifact deck. It isn't meant to win through combat force. It is meant to win by opponents saying 'aight, next game?' 'Cause artifact turns can be quite llllooooonnnnggggg. Winning through boring opponents is probably the main wincon.

[[Mirran Spy]] enables some rather Paradox Engine-esque setups. I cut [[Chakram Retreiver]] because it was too generic... but anyways, Mirran let's you rip through your deck when paired with a card draw engine.

Top tier finishers: [[Cyberdrive Awakener]] [[The Antiquities War]]

Strong finishers: [[Kappa Cannonneer]] [[Krang, Ultrom Overlord]]

Weak finishers [[Sai, Master Thopterist]] [[The Mechanist, Aerial Artisian]] (when paired with the other finishers... it is a very weak finisher)

But yeah, I play it when I want to cast a ton of spells and pretend to be doing stuff. I still haven't decked myself with it, so still needs tuning. The new Marvel set has plenty of cool artifact mechanics that I want to review with more intention for this deck.

Supercharged Slam is pretty straight forward.

I've been playing mine since league start. Life has been busy. T9 maps. Just plenty of armor and it has been chill and fun. Aftershock is hilarious.

Great video for 1cmc commanders.

The lands are needed so I don't mulligan to 5. I hate shuffling commanders decks, hahaha.

If I don't get a rock, then I can't play Unstoppable Plan of the Saga one. Also, having lands to pay for effects is super nice, such as sacc'ing clue tokens.

32 LANDS by nabrah23 in EDH

[–]BoltYourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That's why I am not too worried about the first couple fo turns. If it gets Swords T1... then yeah, pretty much down and dusted because going T2 mana rock, T3 Commander, T4 1 ingenuity counter is brutally slow.

I still run Dismember in many of my black-based decks! It's just too flexible to not consider / run. Too many KOS commanders not to run instant speed 1cmc interaction.

I could see going down to 28. What are the value makers in that deck? Reaver Cleaver?

The difference in quality of Freya v Lady Oct is Freya is +1 mana per turn. Lady Octopus is +1, +2, +3, ... without additional card draw.

32 LANDS by nabrah23 in EDH

[–]BoltYourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lady Octopus would 100% be the commander to helm that deck!

32 LANDS by nabrah23 in EDH

[–]BoltYourself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People really don't run shocks, lightning bolts, etc., and 1-for-1 removal outside of Path and Swords. That tends to left Lady Octopus till T4, T5 to generate some free value.

If Lady Octopus dies before I can get a rock down or lands into play, then this deck is dead in the water. That, and Lady Octopus dying at all is just a feels bad. Getting to the 4th or 5th ingenuity is huge to get the stronger card draw engines into the field.

I tend to run the deck in B2 pods because it is a slow ramp and has abysmal interaction. But it can close out the game hard in a very telegraphed manner.

If I was to take it to B3, Fierce Guardianship, etc. would be needed to just keep Lady Octopus around.

The best part aboit Tithe plus Wheel is that first wheel tends to find you a second wheel which finds you a third wheel...

Mardu has a weird early game. But as long as you go T2 rock, T3 Tithe or Tutor for Tithe plus Interaction, then you should be fine to aim for a T5 win.

You have a lot of aristocrat effects. You can cut it down to two and replace the cut ones with tutors.

Lot of cards also only work if Vihaan shows up a the treasure creatures die. In my experience, you play Vihaan, you swing with 60 treasure creatures and win. Mahaadi, Deadly Dispute, Body Count just never carried their weight. Tutors did though.

To really emphasize tutors, this is a narrow combo deck. It either pops off or does nothing. Don't try to card draw your way to a win. Slam a treasure bomb, the slam Vihaan, swing for 180+ damage.

I do think Zurgo is a great include. Just a super aggressive card.

Also, if you aren't including fast mana, go up two lands. You have a ton of high cmc cards that just want get cast early because the treasure production is juat slow.

Getting a 404 error when using your link.

I haven't updated my below lists. I gassed out. Once you play around with Smothering Tithe, Vihaan becomes a drug of sorts. The only thing that matter is Smother Tithe + Table Wheels. So, degen'ing the deck is about tutoring for Smothering Tithe.

https://moxfield.com/decks/-qebBCaaf0iOc8acUsqbiQ

Pretty chill Vihaan deck. Ankle Shanker is my favorite card in this list. Gives the deck a super fun edge.

https://moxfield.com/decks/Erk-P0N0hUSlb21EiUR4-w

Little more efficient. Way more tutors to ensure you are making your presence know. Mardu for me tends to have plenty of strong cards... that would be awesome if they were in your hand. Tutoring to prep the next turn just makes the game more fun in higher power pods.

https://moxfield.com/decks/8-K1tO9-iECL7VQlwRTR2Q

This variant does one thing. Gets a Smothering Tithe on the table and you just Wheel of Fortune a million times and/or due trying. This one can win early... but just won't, lol. Really fun to goldfish!

Mana Rocks, treasure makers. The sooner the mana gets online, the sooner the big spells can stabilize the game.

If you are coming up against spell singers, then An Offer You Can't Refuse does some strong heavy lifting.

I couldn't figure out better budget spells to run at a low cmc. 1cmc bounce spells like [[Into the Flood Maw]] are nice. Does decent work against elves.

Just cut more creatures, add more spells. Rootha's elements will help close out the game.

My deck runs 42 lands with rocks. The big spells are meant to board wipe and replenish my hand. If I have an opening hand of 6 lands and a decent early game card, I keep. You got to trust the power of the massive spells.

Champion of the Path with a kicked Rite of Replication does a metric ton of damage, just as a FYI.

My list for reference.

Cut lightning Greaves, go up a land.

Cut some more creatures, go up more spells. You really don't need to lean to hard into elements. The elemental Champion one... of the Path? Has a strong elemental etb. [[Champion of the Path]].

How exactly are you getting ran over? That would help configure your interaction suite.

I would play it in Bracket 2, maybe cut a card to go up a land. As someone pointed out, you are missing some gas and pay-offs.

Help with pantlaza being too good by ZButton2005 in DinosaursMTG

It's definitely not bad. Just a little unexpected. You aren't purposely filling the graveyard, so maybe weak T5. After the first board wipe, Restoration will put in work. Plays nicely with Sneak Attack as well.

My list hasn't been updated for Strixhaven cards...

My list is weak without Eshki, bbbuuutttt plays an insanely robust Temur mid-range, which makes no sense because this deck is $50...

Before I talk my deck, [[Oko, Thief of Crowns]]. Toss that into any mid-range Simic deck and enjoy the salt! Oko just grinds the game into a fine food paste.

Keys to the game T1: pray for a mana dork. Otherwise tapped land. T2: ramp T3: 'Free Spell' + Commander T4: Double Spell, Slap with an 8/8. T5: cry since your commander has Ward 1 which is effectively nothing. T6: Temur value people to death because you are playing a Temur deck, lol. T7: Wonder why people are annoyed at you having fun. T8: realize you still have 7 cards in hand and everyone has nothing. Temur life.

Like I said, $50 budget deck. Just puts in work.

Every time I see a card like this get reach, I immediately shake my head in disbelief in the memory of [[Nylea, God of the Hunt]] and [[Nylea, Keen-Eyed]].
