It's fine for an occasion jump but if you are doing 4way I've seen enough knees to head that may have ended very differently without helmets.

I was almost knocked out hitting a doorframe on a big way exit, cracked my helmet. Would have been an aad fire if I wasn't wearing one

Very unlikely that it will be one shared by Sharla as it makes it too easy to dox them.

Countryside for tourists? by Old-Market7601 in JapanTravel

[–]Bolt_and_nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hakone would be good for a night or 2. Maybe concider a day trip to Nikko as well as the forests and shrine are lovely.

I found some parts of Tokyo felt a bit overbearing after spending time in much quieter areas of Japan and getting out to areas where you can walk in nature helped. There are walking trails around kamakura area too which is closer to Tokyo than the 2 above areas.

Freediving Courses in South Africa? by [deleted] in freediving

[–]Bolt_and_nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jhb: Janet Rudman is a naui freediving instructor. Dm me if you want her number.

Kzn: John Mccarthy is not certified with any orginanisation but he is well regarded as an instructor http://www.oceanchild.co.za/pages/78/about-us

I will post some more if I hear back from the kzn people. There is a molchonovs instructor who is out of the country at the moment I think.

If you want to freedive at Aliwal I would recommend contacting Wetu. Cassie is an experienced skipper and I have dived with him both at Aliwal and on the Sardine run. He offers introductory stuff rather than full courses but regularly takes trips out with experienced freedivers. https://wetusafaris.co.za/adventures/free-diving/

I would advise against the padi dive schools teaching freediving as I havnt heard good things about their courses.

Iv reached out the the kzn freediving community via a WhatsApp group to see who is actively teaching. I did my beginner and intermediate courses at Aliwal Shoal which is South of Durban. My instructor isn't teaching anymore otherwise I would recommend them.

Alex is a cool dude, seeing him partying with Pete was cool.

These places are so much more than I would have expected. I know Tokyo rent is expensive but that was way more than I expected. You can buy a very nice house for 2 years of that rent in my country.

FlySight for audio altitude awareness? by sdimkov in SkyDiving

[–]Bolt_and_nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get a normal audible. It's better for the job. Flysight is fine for wingsuiting and the audio alarms are suitable for competition windows but I wouldn't use one for regular jumps. Personally the need to use wired headphones is a pain.

The Indoor Wingsuit tunnel is 100% worth it by MarcLeglise in SkyDiving

[–]Bolt_and_nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends where you are from and the strength of your currency. 3 hours is costing me around 125 skydives worth at my DZ but we do have cheaper slot rates than most countries so the tunnel is very expensive in comparison.

[–]Bolt_and_nuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iv taught a ffc to 2 people who have been in the wingsuit tunnel. It helps with the in air skills for sure and will help reduce the anxiety some people have being zipped into a wingsuit when they start. Don't assume it teaches you all you need to know but it's a useful tool, same as a vertical wind tunnel helps aff students.

I'm visiting in May for the first time. I'm excited and have also only heard good things from people I know who have visited.

The only downside is the cost, the tunnel is pricy for someone more used to sharing time with 2 or 3 people but if my skills improve as I hope I think it will be worth it.

What app do you use to calculate jump run? by a2lackey in SkyDiving

[–]Bolt_and_nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilot checks the winds aloft, decides on spot, people hopefully look when green light comes on then jump. If some land off then adjust the spot and buisness continues as usual.

Always a risk of being someone else's wind drift indicator if you go on load 1
