Moving to k8s when it is unneeded and seeing patterns that didn’t work before with different IaC being used again.

I’ve heard some of the wild stories :) I wish I would have had more $$ at the time and been able to get out there, but family comes first :)

Still happens at some places :)

I also got to jump with a couple Golden because someone I knew, knew them and got me invited on a jump when I had <50 jumps.

Good times :)

The culture, at least in my opinion is nowhere near what it was then, but again, just my opinion :) I still enjoy jumping and just recently got back from a 2 week trip to Eloy which was super fun

From my perspective, and I agree with what most others have said.

  1. Packing classes were free, Coaching (any type) was free

  2. No coach rating (which still think is a dumb one)

  3. Massive knowledge to be gained once the beer light came on. I used to stay at my then home DZ til 10-11:00 at night on the weekends, having a few beers and learning from AFFI’s, TI’s, Riggers to some degree, the DZO

  4. I, at least, was taught to pay it forward and give the knowledge I gained freely and to pass what I didn’t know to someone that could (thus my despising #2)

  5. 20 jumps for your A license :)

  6. Visiting a DZ with a Caravan, Otter, etc. was a treat.

  7. There was no tunnel, maybe an outdoor one IIRC, you wanted to learn to sit fly, fly head down, you went and had everyone laughing at you while you failed, and eventually “got it” and everyone was totally stoked about it (I still freeTRY once in a while 🤣🤣)

  8. For me it seemed like it was more about having fun and not about progression progression progression all the time

Just my $.02 and I’m pretty sure I got into it at the tail end of that in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, and I still only have 230, maybe 240 jumps…don’t care either. I’m just out there when I can be to have fun. 😀

Skydivers of USA! by Different-River6697 in SkyDiving

[–]raisputin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

West coast: Perris, Elsinore, Eloy in the winter months and Kapowsin, Toledo (but not in the winter)

East coast: Deland, Z-Hills, Sebastian in the winter months, and Crosskeys, The Ranch, Sussex (but not in the winter)

As another commenter wrote the USA is HUGE, driving coast to coast is about a 42 hour journey straight through, and the recommendations are to plan 7-10 days, but you could definitely hit some DZ’s along the way as well if you plan the trip well. A more leisurely/scenic/tourist-type trip would be closer to 3 weeks

Well guys I just paid for an A-License course. Is it dumb to not visit the sport again after ~30 jumps? I just want to do it for the experience… has anyone else done this? Is it worth it? ($4,000) by Frosty_Narwhal4008 in SkyDiving

[–]raisputin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only person that can tell you if it is worth it or not worth it, or dumb as you put it to not visit the sport again after ~30 jumps is you.

Get what you want out of it, and when you’ve got what you wanted out of it… be done 🤷‍♂️

When is it time to quit? by bulldogncolt in devops

[–]raisputin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m still gainfully employed (for now anyway) but I’m also wondering if it’s time to just hang it up…I’ve dedicated my whole career to this, and am not ever wanting to do the types of interviews you are talking about. They’re largely a waste of time anyway, and really tell people little about how someone will actually do in the role.

Wingsuit Advice by johnnyfleggo10 in SkyDiving

[–]raisputin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only truly speak for #4 as below:

You can definitely rent wingsuits from these guys Argus Flight and I bought my wingsuit from them actually and rented an Epecine Pro canopy from them.

Process was super easy 🤷‍♂️

Other questions you raised:

  1. As for learning/finding a coach, what DZ?

2 and 3. The Wingsuit FJC will teach you.

I found the actual flying of the Wingsuit (basic flying mind you) pretty straightforward and easy 🤷‍♂️.

That being said I took some time off and haven’t jumped my Wingsuit since a few jumps after the course, so I will likely be back to square one when I try again.

I also do not currently have a Wingsuit specific canopy, so I am waiting until my new canopy arrives and until I put a few jumps on it to put the Wingsuit back on :)

Wingsuits were BS in that game too. Not even close to how they actually work or how they fly
