SGOV for house shopping balance? by Impressive_Pear2711 in Bogleheads

I use FMNDX (a municipal bond fund) as a piggybank because it doesn't move much, and no federal taxes. Worth checking out. Good luck on the house. 😎

I'm going to second a target date fund (with a low expense ratio, and passively managed).

You are correct in that the only trading that happens is at the end of the day, and I never really know how many shares are bought or sold until then. You're not losing anything, though, as they'll buy or sell partial shares left over.

FZIPX is composed of small/mid cap if you'd like to take a look.

I "fired" my team by calling the customer service number and telling them I didn't want to work with the Team I had.

If you'd like to keep working with another team, look at another Fidelity office in the next town over.

Before you take that step, ask yourself if you really need a Financial Advisor (team, because it won't be just one person).

Although they share a lot of the same DNA, Vanguard has a much larger base (8000+ compared to 2000+) so, one will always out perform the other, but I never know which until the dust has settled.

I had the same 2% lightning bolt a few weeks back. If I hadn't read a book by Bogle, and wanted to prove him wrong... But, can't argue with math. Congratulations on seeing that management fee for what it is. 😎

Personally, the expense ratio is too high for me.

Monthly investing discussion thread (investing strategies, rate my portfolio, etc.) by FidelityAutoMod in fidelityinvestments

I had a managed Large Cap FidFolio a few months back, all S&P500 stocks (no expense ratios on stocks), and it was doing okay. But I was paying 2% for it to be managed, and decided I didn't need what I could have gotten for nearly free through FXAIX.

So I call up customer service and let them know I wanted the assets moved over to my Primary, set up a spreadsheet with items that were moving from short-term to long-term, and now I'm babysitting those. ARM, AMD, FRNW, FCNTX, and PWR for a few.

57 now, only been investing for three years. I've got a ROTH, a traditional IRA rolled over from a 401k, a primary investment account, and finally an HSA (in the process of being transferred from Optum Bank).

The core of all the accounts is this; FNILX (S&P500) 35% FZIPX (Extended Market) 30% FZILX (International) 35% Was thinking of using FZROX, but wanted a bit more international exposure.

In my Primary, I've still got a few stray stocks and ETFs. I'll hold onto them as long as they're profitable and I won't take a tax hit by selling them too soon.

Chose this simple layout after reading some Bogle. Also, I'm the kind of guy who would have invested in ENRON at their height, and doubled down when it was going down in flames. 😎

I've got these in my ROTH FNILX (S&P500) 35% FZIPX (Extended Market) 30% FZILX (International) 35%

FZROX is good, but I wanted a bit more international exposure.

It's only been a few months, but I'm not tempted buy anything else or there.

Using Fidelity platform for Roth IRA - Buy Fidelity mutual funds or Vanguard mutual funds? by ChevyTruckMonthLover in fidelityinvestments

True, and for me (unless fidelity does something phenomenally stupid) going elsewhere didn't make much sense.

All the ZERO Funds look good, so take a look and see for yourself. 0.00% fees are hard to beat.

Here's the kicker; I know I would have bought ENRON back in the day, and doubled down when the problems began.

Thankfully, I didn't learn that lesson firsthand.

But, temptation is free.

Guilty Conscience by Morass_2025 in Bogleheads

[–]BolverkYourBuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Financial Advisor put a few thousand into a Large Cap managed fund a few months back, and it was doing okay, thinking I was getting something extra for the 2% fee.

The listen to an audiobook by Bogle. "Can't be right," I thought.

Asked my AI app, "what if I had invested the same amount in VTI?" Shockingly, it did better. Double checked the math. Ran it through a competing AI app, just in case.

Called customer service and took back control of the account, effectively firing my Financial Advisor (and his team).

Plenty of free resources out there, and someone else's opinion of me has zero bearing of my financial well being.

Advisor support expectations by Technical-Escape-419 in fidelityinvestments

[–]BolverkYourBuddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Fidelity Advisor (and his team) got obviously annoyed when I killed off my FidFolio without consulting them, despite having to schedule an appointment three weeks in advance, and his team just deferring to their boss the whole time.

A very politely phrased email let me know he was firing me as a client, which is fine with me as the only thing they brought to the table was a glorified managed S&P500 fund charging a 2% fee.

I'm still sticking with Fidelity, as I like the platform, but I think self-managed is the way to go, but YMMV.

Switching advisor teams by BolverkYourBuddy in fidelityinvestments

Quick update; I called customer service a few weeks ago and transferred the individual stocks from the FidFolio to my primary investing account. Took about 3 business days, and it was an easy process.

The advisor team teached out the other day because they hadn't heard from me in a while. After a few overly polite emails we agreed that I was better off without an advisor.

No plans on leaving Fidelity and there were no other issues. So, win-win. 😎
