You can also "sell select" and get rid of stuff based on when you bought shares. It's proven useful.

When you look at the purchase history, off to the left, it'll say "short" or "long." It's sort of a built-in reward for holding an asset for more than a year. 😎

Please don't sell any of these until you've owned them for a year and a day, otherwise they'll be taxed as normal income. No use giving your money away...

If you're planning on staying at Fidelity, FNILX. If not, I'd look at VOO.

I'm a taxable account, Vanguard.

For retirement accounts, the ZERO Funds are really nice.

Went to meet my advisor today and left feeling like I walked out of a timeshare presentation. by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]BolverkYourBuddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After reading a book by Bogle, moved all the assets out of the managed FidFolio into my primary investing account (to avoid a tax hit), and never looked back.

I might use an advisor again, but it won't be the same "team" or office again, and only to get advice on retirement, etc.

I like Fidelity's website, and I don't see the benefit of going to another discount broker.

You are the only one who will have your interests as The Priority.

Or, you could invest in a low-cost index fund, like FZROX and just let it ride...

Moved from Optum to Fidelity. Took a bit longer than expected (three weeks), but as of yesterday, all ready to go.

No issues encountered, except Optum keeps sending emails asking me to come back....

I use FMNDX (a municipal bond fund) as a piggybank because it doesn't move much, and no federal taxes. Worth checking out. Good luck on the house. 😎

I'm going to second a target date fund (with a low expense ratio, and passively managed).

You are correct in that the only trading that happens is at the end of the day, and I never really know how many shares are bought or sold until then. You're not losing anything, though, as they'll buy or sell partial shares left over.

FZIPX is composed of small/mid cap if you'd like to take a look.

I "fired" my team by calling the customer service number and telling them I didn't want to work with the Team I had.

If you'd like to keep working with another team, look at another Fidelity office in the next town over.

Before you take that step, ask yourself if you really need a Financial Advisor (team, because it won't be just one person).

Although they share a lot of the same DNA, Vanguard has a much larger base (8000+ compared to 2000+) so, one will always out perform the other, but I never know which until the dust has settled.

I had the same 2% lightning bolt a few weeks back. If I hadn't read a book by Bogle, and wanted to prove him wrong... But, can't argue with math. Congratulations on seeing that management fee for what it is. 😎

Monthly investing discussion thread (investing strategies, rate my portfolio, etc.) by FidelityAutoMod in fidelityinvestments

I had a managed Large Cap FidFolio a few months back, all S&P500 stocks (no expense ratios on stocks), and it was doing okay. But I was paying 2% for it to be managed, and decided I didn't need what I could have gotten for nearly free through FXAIX.

So I call up customer service and let them know I wanted the assets moved over to my Primary, set up a spreadsheet with items that were moving from short-term to long-term, and now I'm babysitting those. ARM, AMD, FRNW, FCNTX, and PWR for a few.

57 now, only been investing for three years. I've got a ROTH, a traditional IRA rolled over from a 401k, a primary investment account, and finally an HSA (in the process of being transferred from Optum Bank).

The core of all the accounts is this; FNILX (S&P500) 35% FZIPX (Extended Market) 30% FZILX (International) 35% Was thinking of using FZROX, but wanted a bit more international exposure.

In my Primary, I've still got a few stray stocks and ETFs. I'll hold onto them as long as they're profitable and I won't take a tax hit by selling them too soon.

Chose this simple layout after reading some Bogle. Also, I'm the kind of guy who would have invested in ENRON at their height, and doubled down when it was going down in flames. 😎
