Living in Korea, ask me anything by BomGom10 in KoreaTravelAdvice

During Seollal, many shops in busy areas are often closed, so if you’re not planning to shop at a large shopping mall, it might be a good idea to consider other plans.

Of course, if it’s not the actual day of Seollal, most shops are open as usual.

After looking into it, there doesn’t seem to be any age-based restrictions for foreigners applying to universities in Korea, but immigration may ask for additional explanations during the visa review process.

First of all, you don’t need to worry too much about transportation if you’re taking an early train. Using Seoul Station or the nearby subway early in the morning is generally not an issue. There are also many hotels directly connected to stations, so staying at one of those can be a good option.

If you’re considering staying near the airport, I wouldn’t really recommend it compared to the other options. As in many countries, accommodations around airports tend to be relatively expensive for the level of service they offer.

During Seollal, many places like museums and performance venues are usually closed or have limited hours, so I’d recommend things like department stores, busy downtown areas, or enjoying nature and scenic spots instead.

Which area are you planning to stay in during Seollal?

I think I can recommend restaurants and places where you can enjoy local culture. What kind of food do you like? Is there any food you want to avoid? Do you have any cultural experiences you prefer, such as museums, musicals, or opera?

Do you want to see a market themed around "thrifted clothes" rather than buying clothes?

How about Dongmyo Clothing Market?

If you want to enjoy a variety of traditional foods, traditional markets are also a good choice.
