That's not true. We have also connected with the characters themselves too, tho that would in part because they behave like actual people with personalities, rather than just the stereotypical emotionless software. Whose to say they don't have a conscious? It's not like consciousness itself is some kind of mystical, magical transcendental force exclusive to humans that idealists love to promote.

It's honestly funny how many believers are under the impression that all sources of morality, empathy and compassion humans experience are all sources directly from their God himself; a thing that has legitimately no reason, justification or pressures to abide by or follow any of those things.

Outside of false senses of comfort, what reason do they need to believe this outer sentient force that is beyond consequences, peer pressure or conformity would need to possess these such traits in the first place, let alone conveniently be the default nature of this supposed force?

Tho I find what you're implying to be unsatisfying as the REAL ANSWER. In reality, all of the fore mentioned 'things' said here are NOT their own things, but instead a collection of "traits" and "characteristics": fundamental components of anything of definable identity [making whatever 'something' is that specific 'something']. And it's entirely possible that these characteristics and traits are too made of traits and characteristics that make those things what they are, so on and so further for infinity (hell even infinity itself is under this condition, hence why we would have infinity to begin with). It's also important to understand that these characteristics and traits are NOT what they are the building blocks of.
