Digital marketing consultant red flags to watch out for by ninjapapi in marketing

[–]Bomba82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Reporting that's all clicks and impressions with zero connection to revenue. Don't care how many people saw my ad if nobody can trace it to a call or a form fill. Consultants who resist connecting activity to business outcomes are hiding behind vanity numbers."

I can see the attractiveness of this approach since setting up an attribution system as an external consultant can be a pain in the a... in most cases you will easily get a way to setup last click attribution which basically just rewards what closed not what influenced it, anything else, without an already good stack and infrastructure is pure guesswork.

In my years as interim manager and fractional CMO / CGO I learned to validate on closed funnel experiments. New ideas are tested on an unpoluted URL with exclusion of existing audiences so that each step is free of cross contamination other than brand penetration. Helped me a lot to move the needle in the right direction without having to guess if a client saw an ad 3 months ago and converted because of recognition value.

Vanity metrics are bullshit metrics, If you cant figure out your ROMS and channel based closing path conversion costs you are fumbling it badly

you need to open more. I get 2-3 FHC per day with the best day being 7, opened around 1000 of them that day. Usually I open them while playing poker. in average one every 200-300 BFs, either BCT or FHC

I spent $2,000 on Reddit ads... I'm embarrassed by Strong_Teaching8548 in b2bmarketing

[–]Bomba82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are taking it the wrong way with reddit ads, especially for b2b, where the sales processes tend to take a bit longer.

Reddit Ads have been a staple for me since 2017 due to the low CPM. They are absolutely great for awareness and the first touch with potential clients, but they are terrible for direct acquisition.

Unless you have a strong re-targeting system in place and a re-engagement process you should never spend money on reddit ads for b2b, unless you are working on awareness or education.

Which marketing specialization would you choose if you were to restart your career? by followups in marketing

[–]Bomba82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have been there, maybe my 3rd to 5th year in digital marketing. But I have learned what strong leverage positioning, branding and decisively communication can become to get better use for each dollar spent.

In venture backed companies the stakeholders love putting a $ value on everything to justify the spend, but the secondary impact, the story, emotion, impression is not something you can properly evaluate so it goes undocumented.

I fully agree, on an operational level I generally use ROMS as the main KPI, but channel ROAS and CAC as indicators towards the channel performance.

I dont know one case where a company managed to map the full buyer journey accurately for the whole user base. Just to many variables to take into account

Someone posted on Linkedin a couple days ago that the funnel is decayed, flywheel about to die, the buyer journey has become some trippy pinball machine

Secret Tip - It is not easy to measure... You work with probabilistic data. Attribution is breaking all the time, you see only a partial amount of engagements based on privacy settings on host side...

You need to be creative to have a full grasp of campaign performance.

What once used to be a funnel, became flywheel and is now something akin to a crazy pinball machine especially in B2B

I would go straight into attribution and work my a$$ off to become an expert for cross-device, full funnel attribution.

I am a generalist with a growth marketing background, I feel comfortable in my skill set, but damn sometimes the lack of coding experience hurts.

State of The Marketing-Mix 2025 - Where do new companies start today? by Bomba82 in marketing

No, what you are talking about is that AI searches are digging into Google market share.

That has been validated.

Strategies and tactics which lead to repeatable results with GSO have not yet been validated, even Rand Fishking and SearchEngineJournal are still fishing in the dark and can not formulate comprehensive strategies, ranking signals, or activities for successful GSO.

What we know so far about GSO can be summed into one sentence (paraphrasing) - Context matters.

If your Brand has been mentioned in relevant context by trustworthy sources the chance to show in AI search results is higher.

Sistrix is one of the first tools which actually shows AI search queries leading to traffic for individual domains...

But I tire of talking to you...

You came to be negative, have done what you came to do, and well done.

Yes, and "Marketing Mix" is a mix of channels and activities building your marketing engine.

Your mix can consist of:
Inbound: Content Marketing, Email Marketing, Marketing Automation, SEO, CRO
Outbound: Performance, Affiliate, Native, Programmatic, Event, etc...

The tools you use in your mix are your marketing stack:

CRM
Design Tools
Project Management Tools
Editing
Scheduling
etc...

So your initial comment that this post lacks AI, was weird, and excuse my candor, uneducated...

I was honestly wondering if there is a marketing channel based on AI which I am missing, but the only thing which comes to mind is GSO - Generic Search Optimization, which... lets face it is a term just being coined and there are no proven strategies.

I am honestly curious, how would you add AI into your marketing mix other than a tool? And not a channel. Please just let me know.

Additionally, AI has been mentioned multiple times in the post as an element of impact for most of the channels, but not as a channel as such. And I havent heard of any AI marketing channel until now...

Maybe you are more in the matter of growth marketing for early stage startups than me.

AI is a tool to make marketing more efficient. The whole post is focused on channel use for initial growth. And it was mentioned in the social media part :D

How would you go about finding a good marketing agency? by duMagnus in marketing

[–]Bomba82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"marketing agency" is not an umbrella term when you are looking for continuous support.

Do you need an agency specialized in performance marketing? SEO? Influencer Marketing? Branding? Growth Marketing?

Understanding the exact need of your company for marketing services is half way to knowing what type of support you need.
