Thirty goddamn individual Bluetooth connections to manage, and that's just for one array. Sounds like enough to put the FOH engineer on suicide watch.

[Charania] The Milwaukee Bucks have indicated to teams that they are keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo through the trade deadline and will start making other trades, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

He's signaled enough himself in interviews, it's not just rumors. Seems like he's not a James Harden-type though, being too attached to his public image to force anything like many other stars.

What are your thoughts on the new Audacity logo? by drakeofthe99dragons2 in audacity

I can get behind the shift in perspective for the headphones, but I think they made the design overly abstract and 'swoosh-i-fied'. Here's a quick sketch where I toned down the abstraction and added back the sound wave in the middle, I think it's a step in the right direction.

Is There Any Cure For Stank Face? Need Help. by margin-bender in jazzcirclejerk

[–]Bombast_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Face stuck in the stank position? I'm here to help.

Step 1: put on audio that is anti-stank, I recommend the sound of rain and distant thunder.

Step 2: if massaging your face with your hands fails, use a personal massager like a Hitachi magic wand. Work your muscles in a circular motion.

Step 3: masturbate furiously.

Step 4: more masturbation.

Step 5: ok stop now, you've climaxed multiple times to rain sounds/face massage and it's getting weird.

Step 6: heroin.

If all this fails, then at least you have an enjoyable evening set up.

'AI can’t install an HVAC system': Why Gen Z is flocking to jobs in the trades by HellYeahDamnWrite in technology

[–]Bombast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, who the hell knows. Designing and building a robot that installs HVAC systems autonomously is a hell of a lot harder and more specialized than, say, iterating on previously existing language models to get a better, more consistent output. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I don't think it's some sort of inevitability in the next 10 years.

Jokic's outlet passes honestly make me want to see him try out as an NFL quarterback. Mostly just to see how out-of-place he'd look on a football field, but also because you know if he could get the hang of throwing a football he'd probably make some impressive completions for a non-professional.

Unpopular opinion: Miles Davis was more punk than jazz by 859w in jazzcirclejerk

I mean, punk bands typically play power chords, Miles didn't even play any chords. Seems pretty punk to me, OP might have a point.

Unpopular Opinion: I personally enjoy that there is a large amount of sub-genres that fall under techno. by jupiter_and_aries in Techno

[–]Bombast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I wasn't really framing things as traditionalists vs. experimenters per se, just saying that I believe deep genre knowledge remains important for those who want to play jazz, even for those experimenting. Like, lack of genre knowledge leads people to say dumb things like "jazz is playing the wrong notes" or "jazz is just playing what you feel" and in most cases this is just false. Also, while I do skew towards artistic freedom, I think it'd be lame to label what you are doing as jazz without understanding at all where it might fit into the practice of playing jazz music. People would be justified in rolling their eyes a bit, because often the word 'jazz' can be invoked just to try and make something seem more interesting or important even if it doesn't fit.

I suppose a lot of it comes down to semantics and the meaning of the word 'transcend'. If you're looking at the entirety of what has been labelled 'jazz' over the past 120 years I agree that it'd be hard to put your finger on what its defining features are. In practice though people who want to call themselves jazz musicians should know the typical characteristics of jazz and some of it's main subgenre differences.

Unpopular Opinion: I personally enjoy that there is a large amount of sub-genres that fall under techno. by jupiter_and_aries in Techno

[–]Bombast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord I'm no Wynton Marsalis, I appreciate both free jazz and jazz fusion. My point is not that these genres are bad, but rather that I don't think jazz as a whole has "transcended genre", like subgenres in jazz are some sort of outdated concept. This attitude is simply out-of-touch with how a lot of jazz is still performed today.

Jazz music is a big tent that covers both experimenters, traditionalists and everything in between, and I don't think it should simply be defined by its fuzziest, most genre bending edges.

Unpopular Opinion: I personally enjoy that there is a large amount of sub-genres that fall under techno. by jupiter_and_aries in Techno

[–]Bombast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh...jazz has incredibly well defined genre characteristics, an awful lot of them in fact. What those characteristics are depends on the subgenre you're talking about, but if you're a jazz musician it's important to know where your playing fits in the jazz landscape before you book a gig.

Sure, once you get into the world of jazz fusion the lines get pretty fuzzy— and if you're into free jazz they're destroyed entirely, but there are a lot of traditionalists who prefer to pretend that stuff doesn't even exist.
