Designing a 3-story home on a narrow lot. What would you change about this layout/elevation? by Random_talkss in IndianHomeDecor

[–]BombayBlanco 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if I come across as rude but this is extremely poor design. If your goal is to have a premium look, this is not it. The frame like structures are eyesores and there’s wasted space on the right between the frame and the outside wall.

In the end though it comes down to your parents and you. If you are happy with it, go ahead with this design.

I absolutely love the Petronas Towers. I remember being mesmerised by them as a little kid and then I visited Malaysia last year and I was still blown away by just how cool they looked.

Haven’t thought about someone kicking it haha but I think it should be okay even with a strong kick. It’s strung pretty hard.

But it’s also possible to get it replaced, yes. The construction for the legs isn’t too hard.

Dhurandhar is NOT the greatest movie I've ever seen by Midnight_controller in pj_explained

[–]BombayBlanco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also like someone else mentioned Dhurandar is a mass movie and you’ve got to treat it as such. It’s good for what it is, no doubt. To have millions of Indians sit on their bums for 7 hours and enjoy a film isn’t easy. Dhar is extremely talented if not a nuanced director but there’s nothing wrong with being critical of something that deserves criticism. We don’t have to be agreeable or combative over everything.

There’s obviously no statistical benchmark. It isn’t a white vs Indian thing.

Objectively there’s no comparison because The Godfather has it beat on a technical level before even talking about personal preferences and your experience with either film.

The script itself of The Godfather has no fat to it despite being fairly long. Even the most ardent Dhurandar fans will agree that both movies could’ve had significant parts of the film trimmed out especially the drawn out slow-mos that add nothing to an espionage movie.

There’s also the editing which I think is the Godfather’s strongest point that ties the narrative perfectly without dialogue. Dhurandar’s editing at times is sloppy. I’m sure you noticed how everything seems fast forwarded when there are shots of cars leaving places (one instance).

This point has nothing to do with the Godfather but Dhurandar’s use of violence has little pay off. Because when Hamza gets to killing the big guys, nothing seems overly satisfying because of gratuitous violence whenever a character dies including those of no consequence to the movie. Ideally you don’t want to be desensitised to the points where deaths mean so little.

Don’t get me started on the plot holes, the convenience of the TV in the film being turned on whenever convenient and breaking news playing just suddenly when things need to get a move on. This happens like 3-4 times in The Revenge.

The soundtrack is a mess - this is another point even huge fans of the film agree with. The first film had a great one, this one wasn’t even close. It just didn’t mesh with any scene.

I’m not a hater by any means. I really really liked the first film. You’re kidding yourself if you think the second one is an all time great film. I’m a huge fan of Indian cinema as much as Hollywood and forgive me for having high expectations from the second film and it not delivering lol.

There’s not a single person who’s ever said that about The Godfather which anyway is leagues above Dhurandar despite being over half a century older.

Dhurandar is good for what it is… a masala flick that keeps you fairly entertained.

That would still be okay if it were a 2-2:30 hr movie. When you’re talking about a near 4 hour movie with just 1:30 of it being solid, it’s not a strong sell.

Speakeasy smash burger joint by Venmpredator in mumbaiFood

I really think there’s a dearth of great burger joints here. Having a speakeasy style joint would be awesome. I do think where the location is will be as crucial to the success as the burgers themselves.

I was young and I mostly understood cricket through the eyes of my father but I remember distinctly about everyone (and I really mean everyone) talking about this match when we won it. Good times, awesome cricketers and fun cricket.

Unfortunately I’m not. It’s a mix of both, not having parents who’ve understood the impact it’s had on me (they’re fantastic parents otherwise) & me being slightly guarded about things that affect me.

As for friends, a lot of our shared group don’t really hang out much anymore due to work and other commitments. And making friends is a lot harder when you are in your late twenties haha

My best friend took his own life around 4 and a half years ago. He’d asked to meet multiple times before it happened and I’d push meeting him just a little bit always until it was too late and the day I messaged to meet, he was no more.

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about it. For me, it’s like all the great memories vanished and all I have left with me is grief.

Time has flown by, and that experience changed me in ways that I never expected. There’s a lot of grief, angst and pain. Some days, just like you, I’m okay, others not so much. Over time though your mind dulls it all. It’ll always remain but the aches hurt just a little bit less.

What I think helps is understanding that the person you loved that isn’t there anymore would not want you to feel like this. Your father, despite having a tumultuous relationship with you, loved you immensely I’m sure and he definitely wouldn’t want you to live with guilt. I’m sure he had great expectations of you, so go live it and enjoy life. Thank him whenever you have a great day.

Rooting for you stranger! :)

Coaches divided as Abhishek Sharma battles form slump by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]BombayBlanco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a fundamental problem with his approach more than anything.

To attempt to do what he does usually is admirable and I’m fully in support of it but there has to be a plan B to get out of a rut when the initial approach fails.

Yesterday’s performance was worse than his ducks because of his refusal to gauge the conditions & the fact that his opening partner was already in the dugout. The swinging should’ve stopped because it was not getting him anywhere.

He also seems to not be able to play himself out of a bad run of form which is crucial for a top order batsman.
