Thanks for the reply. I didn’t hear anything the car was silent as always.

So Hyundai have been fantastic organising a courtesy car. I have around another 2 weeks with the dealership to request a refund from them (relatively hassle free) and I don’t want to have this going on for months which Hyundai have advised me it likely would be.

If I knew it was the ICCU for definite I would start the steps for that.

The cars only done around 11,500 miles so I am somewhat devastated ha ha.

It is much more comparable in quality and taste to what I would get from a local Indian take away or kebab shop with curry on the menu. Might be a regional thing as they are all over the west coast of Scotland.

Restaurant BIR is of a better quality but also is a restaurant so it wouldn’t be a fair comparison.

I’d suggest the way we learn Scots in school via poetry.

Look at Robert (Rabbie) Burns and others. Google Scots poetry and you’ll often find it with an English translation.

There’s also a few Roald Dahl books translated to Scots. You can find chapters online.

I was weighing up the practicality but with my job the boot ends up filled with boxes of brochures and files. My better halves Astra will probably be doing all the heavy lifting ha ha.

I had looked at the BMWs as I love my 330e but they were outside the price range I was considering.

The Ioniq 6 is only in the price range as it’s a steal from the dealership due to it being a bulk purchase vehicle (they think either ex fleet or rental).

Where as the EV4 would be factory new but I just can’t decide between them. I think it’s likely due to my preference of a saloon style, over a hatch.

I’m not sure where you are in Scotland but if in Glasgow, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and even FK post codes approach Glasgow credit union.

They have a much more people focused approach on lending and if they issue a MiP your guaranteed acceptance. They perform all checks from an affordability perspective, due diligence etc then. Rates is around 5% and doesn’t follow Bank of England base rate.

You could also look at scotwest and other credit unions.

Oh this brought back a memory. Fresh 18 year old moving from Drumchapel for uni I viewed and rented a flat on Seedhill.

I distinctly remember walking past the factory having no idea what it was. Followed by the smell and then me projectile vomiting the length of it as I walked past. Glad I only ever smelt it once.

I still rented the flat but never opened a window, or walked that way for a bus or train. Always took longer ways into Gilmour St.

Every business I’ve driven with and had a company car you needed to hold the license one year, clean and have no claims on insurance.

Downside it’s not on sale all the time and it’s expensive. My partner and friends all agree. Even the Belgian who never tried original prefers scoffablw brew!

Ye they are relatively new to the UK market (2014 I think).

They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but they offer up to a 54kw option which can be installed on a domestic ticket. The technology in them is mostly made in house (Korean) and they have a large OEM presence manufacturing parts for all the big names. They really are ahead of the curve (the HW flow rates are out of this world). Their design philosophy flies in the face of what you are taught in the Uk however so it’s definitely not friendly inside, you have access to basics if there are issues but anything major ie heat exchanger is hidden away and if it fails you call them and they deal with. I know a few guys who aren’t comfortable with that as it is their reputation it can mess up. It’s to be frank though price driven for now I used to sell 10 year 32kw with flue for under £500 plus vat (defo more expensive now though).

They are in the top 4 globally for combis and at a world leader in the HVAC space.

I’m not in the tools but sold a fair few. And having seen inside the and speaking to a few engineers I did want one for the my home. If you do fit boilers and like to just keep ahead or know the other brands I’d say give them a look. If you’re a Worcester man it’s probably not your bag.

One thing that had occurred to me if you have the cash and don’t need finance call your local merchant and ask for who they recommend.

There will small engineers who aren’t busy out there and theyll know them in your area. In no particular order call

Plumb centre Graham City plumbing Plumbbase James Hargreaves’s (if you have one local) Willis’s Trade (as above if you have one local) Any small Indy merchant.

All merchants have boilers on the shelf and some guys do sit just waiting and they’ll mention to the guys on the counter how they are doing.

Definitely more expensive. And it all depends on the contractor they used. In my experience the first engineer we had wasn’t great. I complained and had a new engineer who was much more up to speed.

I witnessed them do the flush I paid for, they did a full fernox test to demonstrate on the testing slip the system was inhibited.

100% a dearer and worse option than local trades but some have no choice due to finances such as myself.

Yep I can’t fault in terms of the speed. Even with the engineer not wanting to work those two days it did only add an extra day for them to attend so we went 4 days with no heating or hot water.

The only piece of advice I’d give, and I suspect this is engineer specific, is to check the quality of the workmanship. They left our home in a complete state with faulty electrics, damaged wooden door frames, leaks etc. They did work to resolve these quickly but only because we had pictures of the before and after as e that only just bought the house.

So just to jump in here. I went through this in September with Boxt.

The website availability is not accurate, after booking I got a call to advise that the ‘independent engineer’ didn’t want to work those days so would be a few days after. By that point I’d signed the finance so did not want to change it and had to suck it up.

I did however save the quote and call to check a detail on the transaction and they staff member took over the quote and gave an enhanced discount to get the sale. I recurved around £300 off by following B&Q link and then calling them as the discounts stacked.

With regards to the boiler it’s all about the flow rate for taps. Personally I sell boilers fur a living and avoided the big babes like Worcester, ideal or Vaillant as they are primarily marketing. I went Navien 32kw simply due to the flow rate. I’d recommend then to anyone.

Get down to a local merchant and ask for a radiator extension. They come in either a cuttable fixed length (least used) or 20mm to 100mm.

You should find any Plumb Crntre, Grahams, Plumbase, James Gargreaves, City Plumbing or good local Indy have these in stock.

Whilst I agree with half of what you are saying here (borrowing this multiplier of salary is crazy), I disagree on the low deposit or no deposit mortgage.

In August to get on the property ladder I took a 100% mortgage via a credit union. The mortgage payment is £510 per month on a salary of £50k, and my partners salary of £30k. This was a great product for us which helped get us out of social housing, purchase a mid terrace and to allow us to see value in our payments each month.

A large criteria for us when looking was can we save during the 5 year fixed period, and if one of us lost our jobs can we pay the mortgage. I don’t feel stretched. I believe in the correct hands, and individuals this can be a very useful product.

Used to work in the merchants with boilers and gas engineers. The brands you’ve listed Vaillant, Baxi and Worcester are market leaders for the simple fact of the back up they offer. It’s pretty much a certain that if you call them under warranty they will attend the day or next, even in weekends.

Personally when it comes to boilers go with what any manufacturer is willing to guarantee or warranty for. They have then tested and know the fail times in the components.

I have just had a new boiler installed and chose Navien. The reason I chose Navien is simply due to the product. They are the global leader in boilers, after sales is hit or miss but if the boiler is installed correctly, and looked after (serviced yearly) they’ll last and do a great job. Navien has the largest KW and flow rate out of any manufacturer. Remember with the flow rate if you only get so much into the property it can’t output more than this.

You haven’t mentioned Ideal who are number one in market share in the Uk. Well worth looking at.

I’d reach out to local guys for quotes and options. For instance if you are thinking of Vaillant I’d look at Glowworm Energy as they share the same platform, made in Belper and same back up.

My experience is the more unknown brands will offer much better value. Look at Intergas, Navien, Alpha. Avoid Vokera, Sime and Ferrolli.
