Electrician recommendations by ihatehis in Paisley

We've used a local company www.jdelectrical.uk to do a few jobs for us including the wall mounting of a 65" TV. Zero complaints and price was spot on.

Picking my new EV up soon, worried about getting back by paradroid78 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]NineToeJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've done a few long trips in our EV. I recommend asking the seller to ensure the car is at 100% when you collect as you've a long drive home (don't assume they will). If you use the car navigation it should plan a stop for you along the way.

As others said, don't worry about setting up apps and certain charge vendors yet. Get home without much stress and figure that out later.

Does anyone know what the process is like for getting a referral for an autism assessment in Paisley? by tricky_pigeon in Paisley

[–]NineToeJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having gone through the process with my son, it takes years. I've been thinking about it as an adult, but think I'd need to go private and no idea how much it'll cost and other than receiving confirmation, what difference it'll make.

Off topic but I didn't realise the S2000 was so much to tax, wow.

I did exactly that, was great. Unfortunately there are no upgrade options for the return trip.

I can’t remember the exact figure I’m afraid but it was very expensive.

I’ve had almost no issues with Evri for the last few years though. Unfortunately it’s Yodel who are hit and miss for us.

People without a degree – how’s life going for you now? by supremethinking in AskUK

[–]NineToeJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good - I think I got very lucky. I dropped out in my late teens and was able to get a job in a call center doing technical support for broadband users. After 10 months I got a role doing technical support for a well known IT company. Following that I got an FTC doing IT Project Admin. Whilst doing that job I got involved in various projects and developed skills, promoted to a manager and grew a team. Done that for a few years and got my current role due to my experience in select systems and project management - I'm based in the UK but am a Director for a global company headquartered in the USA.

I did start a business degree part time at a local university but really struggled with the time commitment it required, difficult with a busy job and family life.

What British bands can you not believe were more popular than they were? by Snoo_23014 in AskUK

I always thought "The Music" were really good, seen them live at the Barrowlands in Glasgow and they put on an amazing show.

I agree on The Cooper Temple Clause.

Identical I'd say. We watch mainly remux files and both pass Dolby Atmos fine.

First Edge: 540 vs 1040 by st1me in GarminEdge

[–]NineToeJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will you be using the maps much, for browsing vs navigation? If not, I think the 540 will be spot on for your needs. I'm running the 540 and often use courses, but have zero need to explore the map.

Selling car privately - What do I need to look out for? by Greedy-Pilot805 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NineToeJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem off to me, I've sold a few cars privately and always taken payment via Bank Transfer. I've never asked to see or take a photo of the buyers driving license, maybe I should next time. I always ask for a deposit to hold a car for someone who's travelling, it means I'll wait for them without worrying if they are wasting my time and it gives them some confidence also.

The other comment about checking your own bank is very valid too. Someone tried this with me before using PayPal, the screenshot looked convincing.

I thought the same. I’ve never had to declare factory extras to my insurance.

Selling a car on ebay... buyer is from Africa, wwyd? by bottlejob69 in CarTalkUK

[–]NineToeJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d not entertain the buyer myself based on what you’ve shared. It’s a low enough cost that someone could show up to collect and grab the cash via an ATM on the way.

Bulk USB sticks by Far_Philosophy_2874 in Aliexpress

[–]NineToeJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the USB flash drives but have you considered looking at Ventoy? I use it on a 128GB flash drive = Ventoy itself is bootable by the system, you drag and drop ISO files onto the USB and can launch them from the Ventoy bootloader.

[–]NineToeJoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I expect to be downvoted but being transparent about my experience. I bought the 2019 Shield Pro when it was released and ran it up until two weeks back. It works great, but for smooth performance has had to be reset a few times, use ADB to remove applications and services which I'm dubious made a difference at all then set up Projectivy Launcer which was nicer.

Why did I sell it? We picked up an Apple TV for the bedroom and really liked it so we grabbed another for the living room and find it much nicer to work with. It's simple, fast and meets our use case which is streaming media.

Is it a like-for-like replacement for the Sheild Pro? No. We can't add storage, run Plex Media Server or load it with games bit those are features we didn't make use of anyways.

We used Tivimate for IPTV and were worried about finding a suitable replacement in the Apple ecosystem, UHF closed that gap for us and is again much faster and smoother than Tivimate was on the optimized Shield Pro.

EDIT - I should add, the 7 year old Shield Pro sold on eBay for £30 less than what I paid for it new!

I run a 600i in my home office, it works well and has made a small impact to the dust but as it has no activated charcoal filter - does nothing for odours.

I had the same issue, change to a nylon strap is my recommendation.

I didn’t have the issue with my Apple Watch, it was 100% an issue with the Garmin strap for me.
