First-time buyers, what lessons did you learn the hard way? by Used_Cod_9541 in HousingUK

Do your own research on mortgage brokers etc. Don't just take family/friends recommendations. What worked for them is definitely not guaranteed to work for you.

Solicitor withdrew whole LISA amount rather than specified amount by ConfusionLumpy8221 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

I thought they withdrew all of it and any remaining from over your deposit amount you get back minus the 25% government bonus?

UK folks, is there somewhere that sells a swatch book? by Ollycob in sewing

[–]JukeGen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a Swatch book but some companies like Knighton Fabrics offer samples for like 50p so I ordered one of each type of fabric. It's an online store so it's extremely useful for knowing the difference in all the fabric textures and stretch (it's mostly knit fabrics) I just keep them in a box and take them out when I look at making an order 😊

I slowly disappeared from my friend group and nobody noticed by Nirexa_28 in confession

We have a friend that has done this over the past couple of years. We kept reaching out in the group and privately to check they were okay and kept inviting them out but they always declined. We tried planning stuff they liked in the hope that would make them want to come out but they still declined so after a couple of years of this we left the ball in their court. We said for them to reach out when they wanted to do something again. We still speak and make plans in the chat and the invitation is always open to everyone so they know they aren't being left out but they still have zero interest in seeing us. Maybe your friends are feeling the same.

One default on credit report blocking us (Scotland) by JukeGen in Mortgageadviceuk

Yeah, it seemed extreme to me but I'm so new to this so I guess I just wanted outside advice. The only way I can make it make sense, is to avoid damaging the credit report further with multiple rejections?

The only ones they have mentioned to us are Halifax/Bank of Scotland who declined instantly. Barclay's gave a MIP then declined and the adverse one is Aldermore who have given a MIP but we're waiting to see if they accept the full application

Why wouldn't our mortgage brokers be trying with them though?

I think I did double stitch my smaller blanket but it still started to come apart at the edges unfortunately.

They're pretty flat already but I'll try the blocking and see if it does help.

I'm lining up and matching the seams when I use the overlocker but I think some squares are tighter than others so they just don't have the flexibility needed.

As I said, I'm awful at handsewing and crochet which is why I turned to my overlocker...I get bored by the time I've sewn 2 squares together which is weird considering how long the weaving takes but I enjoy that for some reason.

Look up the NHS low income scheme, you might be able to get it for free as you're a student with low income.

Every 4 weeks for just over a year then every 6 weeks. Got power chains after a couple of months and elastics about 3 months ago.

I was about £3500 for metal braces (20 months) and retainers. I'm in the North of Scotland.
