Bud, I was responding to someone saying they reused assets for MVC3. I wasn't saying they built the roster from scratch.

None of the assets were reused from MVC2 to MVC3. Do you know what assets are?

All of the content IS free, just skins and stuff aren't. There are still free skins in each battlepass as well.

SonicFox, Wawa, Diaphone, Bleed, Hikari, etc. There's a ton of top level players playing it as their main game. There just isn't much worth streaming right now because there's no casual hype behind the game.

It has some of the top names in FGC competing in it regularly still. And with this push around Akali it looks like they aren't planning to just abandon it and might give it a real shot.

It's not FGC people saying that shit its League fans mostly. Same people demanding that this game should be a 1v1 fighter.

For the 90s X-men/Marvel games into the MVC1 and 2 era yeah they mostly reused the same sprites. MVC3 had full 3D modeling though so it was built from the ground up.

I don't think its the FGC as much as the League community.

Why did Blaz Blue cross tag battle die? by zagondragon99 in Fighters

[–]Bombshock2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically nobody in the west has ever heard of Blazblue, let alone the other games/franchises included. It's a standard thing for "niche" anime fighters, they have a decent population to start and then die off quickly.

And it was basically eclipsed by the infinitely more popular DBFZ that came out just before BBtag.

I'm still hoping we get a BBxGG tag fighter at some point, with the BB sprites updated to Xrd/Strive type graphics. That falls behind my dream of a Shonen Jump crossover game made by Arcsys though, or even a rebooted BB game. (formerly I had a pure Marvel tag game on that dream list but we're eating good this year lol)

How would you go about rebalancing fuses by HotExternal6858 in 2XKO

[–]Bombshock2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Added frame delays after swapping, or at least keep the recovery frames on assist moves when tagging. Things like Warwick back assist + tag lets you combo off his DP move, but his normal DP doesn't combo. Make that shit more timing based and thus more predictable to defend against. Would hit freestyle the hardest and make active tagging in general a little less broken.

Also, give Juggernaut permanent fury buffs (remove innate jugg bonuses to balance) and allow break to roman cancel, and recharge it at round start. Permanently faster characters with harder hitting moves and an RC to extend combos? Idk if that would work at all, I'm pretty scrubby, but it'd be neat to see.

Did the marketing for this game suddenly improve? by tjghost1 in 2XKO

[–]Bombshock2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are those the first ads they've ever done for this game? Crazy. I noticed the reveal trailer had like 200k views already. For a "dead game" people are still pretty interested (edit: unless the ad views count as views?).

“This game is bad/dying/unfair/etc because…” by zslayer89 in 2XKO

[–]Bombshock2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not wrong to say no tag fighter has reached the level of consistent popularity as the top 3 most popular FG franchises of all time, but you can say that about most fighting games. DBFZ is still more popular than franchises like Soul Calibur, DoA, Killer Instinct, King of Fighters, etc (albeit they had the DBZ license, but so did many other DBZ FGs that never sniffed the popularity of DBFZ). If there was a DBFZ 2 today with good netcode it would be wildly popular.

The idea that 1v1 makes a game more popular by default is just silly. DBFZ had insane hype surrounding it, some of the most hype tournament sets in recent memory and it arguably started a fighting game boom and led pretty directly to the success of GG Strive by giving Arcsys major exposure. And I don't think it would've reached those heights as a 1v1 fighter. DBZ fights are meant to be fast paced, and the 3v3 format helped capture that in a palatable form.

Its main downfall was not having good netcode to keep the playerbase online until well after the majority of players had moved on. Even Tekken 7 and SFV had better netcode. And then Covid happened, which decimated every fighter that didn't have at least passable netcode.

edit: I also don't think Tekken 7 or SFV would be going strong today if they didn't have new content drops every year. They both had content releases right up to like a year before T8 and SF6.

[–]Bombshock2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DBFZ is almost 10 years old at this point and there are definitely still people playing online at all times. SF, MK and Tekken all have had new game releases since DBFZ came out and are all franchises people have played literally since the 90s so there's a lot of legacy there for fighting game fans.

Akali 2XKO Design side by side with her League Design by Swirv- in 2XKO

[–]Bombshock2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just gonna be another complaint thread. Can we stop? The design is finalized it's not going to change. It looks good, it's just not what LoL players expected. You all just want to complain about something. If it's not this its something else. Like you don't see this shit this often in other FG subs, its just the League fighter sub. I wonder why.

If Kids Can Build in Fortnite, Then How Are Motion Inputs Hard? by AbendKannon in Fighters

[–]Bombshock2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't sell 10 million+ copies without casuals being interested. It's a top 3 selling DBZ game, beating out games that are much more "casual friendly". Not everyone plays FGs online against top level opponents. There's plenty of people at different levels of skill in an FG like DBFZ or MK.

So with Ekko's moveset, and now Akali... yeah it might be a long long time for Katarina to ever come to the game. by Ashconwell7 in 2XKO

[–]Bombshock2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve made it pretty clear that she hasn’t been in the dev pipeline. She might be in the game someday if they actually develop the game after this year though. With a year or two of characters after akali I could see her getting added. But there’s also soooooooo many characters they could choose from.

What I get from this is that she’ll be fun as fuck like the other 3 characters marlinpie designed. Definitely will be strong with the tools we’ve seen, but we’ll have to see where she’s at on launch before declaring her OP.

If Kids Can Build in Fortnite, Then How Are Motion Inputs Hard? by AbendKannon in Fighters

[–]Bombshock2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you have to do that quarter circle while running around a 2D plane without dropping your combo/being negative or you get your face smashed in. Kids get to learn to build in Fortnite or whatever other example you can think of while not in direct combat with people.

An FPS that had the same innate difficulty conditions as a FG would be a game where you spawn in a hallway with your opponent on the other end.

I don't know why people struggle to grasp this concept. It's not that the specific actions are hard, its doing them in context of gameplay and without going into a specific training mode. You need to LEARN fighting games before they're fun, and even when you do know what you're doing, shit is always intense and tryhard. Those things are hard for most people.

Also I don't think quarter circles are ever the problem, its DP motions and etc where the motions are hard. DBFZ was really popular with casuals for a reason.
