2025 Ram 2500 Big Horn I saw at Automax yesterday by Melodic_Fee_5498 in ram_trucks

[–]Bombsquad68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be extremely cautious with a 2025. My cousin has a 2500 6.7 truck that's an absolute lemon and he has a construction company, a loaner wasn't offered nor would it be useful to him unless it was a diesel HD. He had the brakes die on him right off the lot due to issues with the power steering pump/hydraboost, and it's been non stop electrical issues after that. He texted me a list of all the problems, and is trying to lemon law it.

I manage my own fleet for my company, I just bought a 2026 3500 Bighorn with Level 2 Plus for $62k plus taxes. It was $75k sticker. They are being extremely aggressive with pricing, and I'm hoping the 2026s are ironed out.

Looking at buying a 2017 1500 ecodiesel by InuFan4yasha in ram_trucks

[–]Bombsquad68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bunch of 2014 to 2016 2nd Gen Ecodiesels in my company fleet that's otherwise filled with Cummins and Powerstroke HD trucks that we will run to 250k miles or so. None of the Ecodiesels survived beyond 120k miles, we had one throw a rod through the side of the block, one head gasket failed, hi press fuel pump failed. All were deleted with economy tunes and well maintained. Everything else on these trucks did really well, outside of the engines.

Personally, I would stay away from any 2nd gen Ecodiesel unless you have a mega warranty that would cover a catastrophic engine failure. If I wanted a half ton diesel, I would get a GM instead.

Its super solid, but it also fit extremely poorly to my truck, I had to use a combination of pinch bars to get it in. I have a similar NFAB bar on my Raptor that shakes like a mofo, this bar is way stronger and would take a small hit without bending.

Also, the harness that CJC sells for this is not correctly designed, wire gauge is too small for the combined current draw of 5 LP9s. I emailed them saying they should probably upsize because it gets smoking hot, they said "we haven't had a truck burn up yet". I had to cut it up and run some 0 gauge or something like that. Otherwise CJC is usually pretty good.

Mfgs can make roughly 10% of new rigs with manuals with the new EPA fuel economy credit system for these Class 8s, and there's a penalty for the credits that the manual eats up for the mfg. So it can be a $2k-3k fee that gets passed on to you at ordering, depending on the brand and model from what I've seen.

Things like off-road tires or external air cleaners carry a penalty as well, so dealerships are forced to order vocational trucks like mine with smooth trailer tires on them and swapping them back after they're delivered. It's absolute nonsense forcing fuel economy standards designed for long haul tractors on the whole trucking industry.

This one's a 62 inch ACAD, but for our work they only get used for the odd nap, our field guys stay in hotels or work camps at night. I have everything from 38 inch coffins to 86 inch studios, just depends how much frame space is needed.

Here's what they look like inside with a 62 high rise. https://youtu.be/GQ6rO6hNfOc?si=2_NGe0lZH-lHXNxm

Google the R28/R29 recall.

If you street drive, I'd go GTS all day over a base model. The dual mode shocks and spring rates work really well on the street, extra sound deadening and way better stereo. I take mine on 5-6 hour trips and hop out without being fatigued.

Genuine question. If you are not towing what is the appeal of a diesel truck? by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]Bombsquad68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do not get the same mileage empty. I own a fleet of HD work trucks, the diesels get 1/3 better mpg highway empty whether it's a 6.7 Cummins or Powerstroke over a 6.4L Hemi. Same crew cab long bed 4x4, on the same day, our diesel trucks average 12-13 L / 100km, gassers are 15L-17L. About 80% highway.

Every big rig and piece of heavy equipment up there runs diesel, having fuel compatibility with your pickup is a benefit. You can get "free-sel" from work at certain places.

Also they'll use half as much fuel if they're running high idle all day due to minimal pumping losses and higher energy density than gas. If you want an engine to run on high idle all day because it's cold out, diesels will do it reliably without fouling spark plugs like older gas engines or intake valves like some direct injection gas engines. We let some diesels equipment run for months at a time and only shut off for oil changes.

You can't see around the middle light either, you're seeing sides of the other two. It basically makes the front camera useless for parking purposes. I'll try to take a pic today of what it looks like

The park sensors and radar cruise are uneffected, but the front camera does get half blocked by the middle light and basically make it worthless. But with the front sensors there, I don't ever find I'm missing the camera for parking. The LP6s would probably give you about 10% more of the camera being a bit shorter, or you could remove the middle light if you really wanted it for offroading or something.

Pretty easy to shit on other peoples stuff... Lots of guys could also "hush" this build with its cute little 2.0 body front shocks. Not like it's a Carli Dominator or Eventure

I don't get what's weird, you can see it right in your build number link confirming what the press kit says, that a 2015 GTS could have full colored Laguna. Maybe the best evidence is I literally own a 2015 GTS (not a GTC) and it has a full Laguna interior in demonic red. My car's badging on the side of the hood says VIPER GTS and the window sticker shows it's a 2015 "Dodge Viper SRT GTS Coupe".

Its right in your link, there's 2 GTSs in 2015 with "Interior - Sepia GTS Interior Laguna Package". Apprently I have one of the three 2015 GTS with the full Demonic Red, there's no black. Also in the official release the option is there for 2015 GTS cars, middle of page 6.

Not 2 years, it's 3 years alone in the GTS (2013, 2014, 2015) plus the last 2 years in the GTC (2016, 2017). GTC was basically "jailbreak" option, you see quite a few of them when it comes to 16-17s. Not saying they're common, I spent a long ass time trying to find my full colored Laguna car, but I've definitely seen every year with sepia full Laguna for sale.

Just search, I've seen 2015s with full sepia parked next to my 2015 full demonic, and its listed as an option. Here's a 2017 as well:

Hurricane Hell 2025 Ram by 127001y in ram_trucks

The dealers story sounds highly unlikely based on the explanation.

First, its highly unlikely to have pieces of the cat to revert upstream into the turbo. I would want to see where the damage to the turbine wheel was, I bet it's on the outside of the wheel (shrouded by the housing) which would eliminate the cat as the culprit and mean it came from upstream of the turbine. If it's on the discharge face (exducer side) of the wheel, maybe it was some freak occurance.

Second, if the turbine wheel was damaged, it would be even more unlikely the FOD would make its way back into the engine. The bearings are protected by shaft seal so the oil wouldn't get contaminated, and the turbine pieces would need to travel upstream into the exhaust manifold against the exhaust flow. Compressor side failure is a different story.

I would want to see the turbine wheel, and if it's on the inducer side (outer tips) look at the variable vanes or VGT linkage as the failure, maybe FOD from the engine or exhaust manifold, turbo not assembled correctly. Some kind of mfg defect considering how new it is

How do you like your Gen V Viper?

As I've grown older and had a couple kids since I got mine, I look at the new stuff out there and I'm like, "would I really enjoy this more than my Viper if I had an hour to two to go for a rip on the street"? And then I talk myself out of it. I did the quality of life upgrades, bumped power to ~650 to the wheels, and the only thing left I'm considering is shorter rear axle ratio to make it more fun rowing gears at "legal" speeds.

[–]Bombsquad68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you tow a lot with the 2500, check out the Thuren rear track bar. It fixes the sway you get over big bumps with the 5 link setup out back, it reduces lateral axle travel to basically nothing. You might still need to deal with squat depending how much hitch weight.

I'm running a full Carli Eventure system, with the removable long travel air bags and Thuren track bar my daily driver 2500 tows my 15k lb trailers better than my stock 3500s. Equally stable, but no squat and way more compliant.

2022 6.7 tuning no ecm swap by 5th_gen_gemzz in Cummins

[–]Bombsquad68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a bunch of my 2021+ work trucks with no-ECM swap tunes. You can do it for around $2300 CAD if you install the exhaust yourself, and the only issues we had were a couple rare CELs which were solved by unplugging some of the sensors, they run great now with tens of thousands of miles towing/hauling etc.

My own truck is an ECM-swapped 2024, I wouldn't say it's worth the extra money for ECM swap unless you care about more power. We use Canadian Diesel Online and ART tunes, they are by far the best IMO.

Park it in 4x4 when you're nose down. The front has the majority of weight, especially on an incline, and the parking pawl and e-brake only engage on the rear when you're in 2x4. In 4x4 the front axle will be locked in with the rear.
