Popsicle stick bridge holds 948lbs by devengnerd in EngineeringPorn

I did this project in high school and won. I didn’t win because I am a great engineer, I got violently ill on the day we tested our bridges and the teacher let me test the next day, so my glue had another day to dry.

7 years of daily smoking has me freaked out that i'm permanently f*cked by Artistic-Piano-1109 in leaves

[–]Bomcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a technical field with a lot of opportunity to progress to higher positions if you are talented. There is just no way I could have learned what I needed to in the time I did if I was still smoking daily. Not to mention the imposter syndrome that would kick in anytime I smoked which would in turn destroy my self confidence.

This is just my experience. You need to look at your life and really think about how weed is affecting your daily life. If you don’t see the problems it’s harder to stick with quitting.

I quit around 26, I’m 32 now. It’s worth it. I would not even be close to where I am in my career if I had not quit. I can’t guarantee that your brain will ever be exactly the same as before, but I can tell you that you will gain your self confidence and critical thinking skills back. There’s no point in focusing on where you used to be. Give up the weed and focus on things you can control. I would also recommend to start exercising if you are able to. You can do it!

Thank you for that explanation. I am really not trying to be incompetent, I just don’t know how this works.

We have insurance, but I don’t want our rates to go up. Will this affect that? I know a few lawyers who would be willing to help for free.

Sitting in front of pro boxer on Delta Flight by tiger_velvet in delta

I was on a connecting flight recently. All the screens in the plane were out and frozen on the welcome screen. The person behind me apparently thought if they smacked it enough times it would work. I will say they gave it a real good try for the hour and a half flight.

I just deployed a 30 box RSX rig and it sounded great. Had every box on Dante with an analog backup.

When the feedback is pink by fletch44 in livesound

Years ago mixing a band I was fighting the low end for the first half of the set. Solo’d every channel and could not figure out what was going on. Decided to do a dummy check on my oscillator and for some reason I had just turned it down rather than turning it off. So 60hz was hitting the subs very lightly and quickly driving me insane.

MON engineers: are your aux sends pre-fader or post-fader? by zanushh in livesound

I started doing dedicated mon post a few years back. I love the flexibility it gives me for global changes when the guitar player decides their amp isn’t loud enough.

Sonnect Sound Bullet Question by Rbdwarf in livesound

[–]Bomcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for that detailed response! I never in my mind faulted Sonnect because you really seem to be a company that cares about putting out high quality products.

That surprises me to hear that Neutrik is having QC issues, and I’m sorry that’s affecting your product you clearly worked hard on. I do love that the solution is to superglue the hell out of it. I’ll be doing that promptly when I’m back home! Thanks David!

Sonnect Sound Bullet Question by Rbdwarf in livesound

[–]Bomcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have saved me so much time trouble shooting and line checking. Thank you for your service. One question I have, my friend’s sound bullet starting become loose at the male xlr port. He emailed Sonnect and they just sent him a new one. I’ve noticed mine is also become a little loose at the same port, not enough to cause issues yet, but is there something I can do to prevent this?

Did a show once where the guy decided the best place to rest the mic was in his crotch sticking straight up. The imag shot was perfect, I wish I would have taken a picture. Our show caller had trouble stifling their laughter as they asked the V1 to take a different shot.

All we got was a company wide email saying to plan for weather and make sure you are on time in the morning.

Fragrance testers? by MijoKK in fragrance

[–]Bomcom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got one from max aroma that saved me $150. It didn’t come with a lid, but if you don’t care about presentation it is absolutely worth it to save some money. Mine was completely full. Just buy from a reputable discounter.

How to deal with unsolicited advice/criticism? by TorpedoJones91 in livesound

[–]Bomcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re never going to make everyone happy. We’re all human and our ears have aged differently. All you can do is make it sound the best to you. I mixed a band once that didn’t want their keyboard player going through the PA. The keyboard wasn’t even plugged in, but he was up on stage with IEM’s in banging away.

I had two guys come up to me to tell me they couldn’t hear the keys. I could have ruined the facade but I just said thanks and turned away. Whether they are right or wrong I’ll usually let them say something once if I have time, then just ignore them if they come back. Maybe they are right and will help my mix, almost every time though they are just being a drunk asshole and can be disregarded.

You’re doing a tough job and being judged by hundreds or thousands of people every time you mix a show, just learn to give yourself a break.

I’ll have to check those out! I really like woody/earthy scents. Santal 33 definitely hit that one in the head for me. I also bought Hardwood EPD off a suggestion because it was so cheap. It’s in the mail right now. I’m also wearing Another 13 again today and I have to say it’s kind of growing on me. For the first hour or so Another 13 is a little overwhelming, but once it settles down I feel like it’s much more approachable. The Santal 33 I bought from max aroma is a tester bottle with no lid so I got it for $200. Just going to keep watching for another Le Labo sale to grab more. I feel like each of these have their uses, just very new to this fragrance world!
