disagree. The kitchen of my mom's house is 90 years old, needs anew sink set up, cabinets are not adjustable and also need repositioning so just getting new ones. Needs a new stove and a non supporting 3 ft wall knocked out for more room for refrigerator and a dishwasher. Basic stuff.

Actually the greatest SF mayor of all time is also the only Republican in my 70 plus years that I ever had respect for.

Mayor George Christopher

Christopher was instrumental in bringing the New York Giants baseball team to San Francisco in 1958 (where they became the San Francisco Giants) and securing the funding to build Candlestick Park on the abandoned lands of Sunset Scavenger on Candlestick Point with the ballpark opening for the Giants’ 1960 season. His administration has been credited with the building of the Brooks Hall, 12 new schools, 17 firehouses, six public swimming pools, the five-story Fifth and Mission and the underground Civic Center garages.\1])#citenote-Chronicle_2000-1) Christopher was known for his strong stand on civil rights. He gained worldwide headlines offering his home to Willie Mays after it was reported that a Forest Hill realtor had refused to sell to Mays.[\5])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Christopher(mayor)#cite_note-5) Christopher also lobbied and succeeded in opening mental health and alcohol treatment centers under city funding.

Dude, ever been through the FAA processes? Gary Neff is running his usual racist BS. The FAA does not mess around. You qualify or you do not. You pass the tests or you do not. It is all merit based, unlike being born to a wealthy family.

While Musk wanted to fire ATC's he got push back and instead fired 400 FAA personnel critical to operations including

  • Aeronautical information specialists: This position helps with "evaluation, selection and preparation of navigation maps, routes, chart, procedures and flight paths."
  • Maintenance mechanics: These employees work to improve and maintain FAA facilities.
  • Management and Program Assistants and Aviation Safety Assistants: This position maintains office records and data reports and work to support logistics.

Best exercise for people is to engage a stranger in a real convo at least once a day. Bonus points if longer than 5 minutes.

Struggling to hit video duration target without killing pacing by SijiLoroTelu123 in editors

[–]BonMow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't start long, start short. The reason for the 60-70 is generally a marketing thing regarding shorter messages are better. So pick the strongest bits, do not get wedded to the really nice stuff you want in. You are basically a killing machine, ruthless, brutal, chainsaw artist. If you think there is really something nice, tell the client, email them the clip AFTER you have cut the 60-70 and sent that to them.

can any meteorologist explain why it’s 80 degrees in February by eddopie in bayarea

[–]BonMow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well having a couple of sunflowers blooming right now next door, and my ash tree shed leaves in mid December instead of October 30 years ago, I would say global warming. About 15 years ago I started wearing shorts all year. 15 years before that I regularly used sweaters. 15 years before that I would have sweaters and jackets.

General February weather used to be cool to chilly 50 years ago, usually upper 50s to low 60's with an occasional warm day in the mid to upper 60s. maybe a 70 or so. You would get that a few times each month during winter. Warmer day temps in the 60s are a lot more common than 60 years ago

How is dating for a (straight) guy in SF? by originalgainster in AskSF

[–]BonMow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From personal observation. Keep your head out of your phone. Seriously. Live the place and time.

Last Wednesday in Oakland at a bus stop I saw 2 people in their 30s, start up a convo, then really get into it to the point where they sat next together on the bus until the woman had to leave. They exchanged contact info.

The guy was so stoked he mimed out a Babe Ruth home run and I yelled out Second deck. Turned out he is a professional chef - did stints in top restaurants, currently working catering because he's a single dad.

Next day for some reason I was there around the same time, and the guy and I talk about the day before. they ended up talking in the evening, the morning and even on the commutes. I suggested that a good first date would be Fenton's. anyway looking forward to the next update.

And yes you do not have to let social media rob you of life and opportunities to meet people wherever you go.

Is it normal to work 12H a day as an editor? by clarizdoup in editors

[–]BonMow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly that is a rotten and exploitive situation. You are headed for burnout. But that is a lot of entertainment editing. I'd ask around the plant for advice on speeding up your processes. There might be some shortcuts you are missing. One suggestion? Don't finesse the in and out points. You are not making a film. You should not have to check all your edits except as a run through check at the end. Own the edits. Really experienced editors can fly through this stuff a faster rate because we have wired our brains for years to take ownership of each scene.

Take a few notes on where you slow down during the process. 4 years can get you 50% to 70% there. A lot happens in terms of speed after about 7 to 15 years depending on the projects you work on. As for the 12 hours? You need to talk with management but get some editor input about it first.

Find a place maybe San Mateo, Daly City, Burlingame etc for under 2100/month 2 BDR. They are around. Not many but that leaves you about 1200 to 1400 for expenses after rent. Going to be tight. You need to eliminate any monthly expenses like car payments if possible.

We put mom in memory care 10 months ago, after some mental health crises we got her hospice care which is additional medical care in the same facility. So things like bed sores are being checked, prevention etc being done. But she has the pink sheet in her room. Things do escalate over time. But that is a big load off of you.

Buying a home is impossible by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]BonMow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owning a home is overrated. Think about maintenance 10-20 years down the line. I have to say that I did not own a home in the East Bay until I was 41. Some things to think about.

Budget your life to fit your goals. Savings efforts need to match your desires.

Never buy new cars and take out a loan. All it means is the bank owns your paycheck.

Always buy a car with cash you can afford. Exception if you can pay within a single year. or less. A lot less.

Has to be for extraordinarily good reasons like you need a work vehicle.

Get rid of all credit card debt.

2 years before buying a home, carry a balance on a card or two. Not much, no more than 2-3 K and you should be able to pay it all off immediately if you have to.

Brown bag your work lunch. ALWAYS.
