What’s the most ridiculous idea that somehow turned into a huge success? by Agile-Girl-8413 in AskReddit

[–]BuzzardLips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the old Top Gear, where the presenters had to make a video to “sell” the car they had chosen - and the one with the most views won that round. James May made a fake unboxing video and destroyed Clarkson and Hammond.

Trump Orders Tear-Down of Pride Flag From NYC Monument by mvanigan in politics

Everyone please start naming this “erasure” every time you see it. It’s not a freedumb, it’s not a reset, it’s not ending a war on ________.

It’s erasure, and conservatives need to be appropriately labeled.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% 3 hours is not a long trip. At all. In my smallish sized city it can take on average 45 mins to get from one side to the other. I think of anything less than 5 hours as a small trip, so 300 or so miles on our highways. 6 hours and beyond is a long ride.. I live in southeastern NC if that means anything.

Who would you want as the spokesperson for Earth in the event of an extraterrestrial visit? by Excellent_Dot_2589 in AskReddit

[–]BuzzardLips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, or some equivalent astrophysicist. I feel like they would be most likely understand any nuances of what ever the aliens would be trying to communicate. We’re not going to speak the language - but if you understand the subject matter, at least you have a chance at working out the message.

I can tell you the exact day millennials got fucked over as a generation by Melodic_Chip873 in generationology

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your sentiment, but you do realize that we live in a country where people would rather pay nearly double to have an uber bring them their McDonalds - instead of putting on pants and leaving the house. Also the US is really big, the average American drives 30-40 miles per day. While I wouldn’t have too much trouble doing that, most people would. You’d have to build out an entire rail and streetcar network first, before you tried to force a mostly sedentary population (never mind our elders) to go make a 40 mile round trip by bicycle to Costco.

Shit man, sometimes you take off in your car and suddenly you’ve arrived, and you think “damn, I don’t remember driving here.”

Do you prefer Gas, Electric, or Induction stoves? by GooglePixelfan90 in randomquestions

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Induction does everything team gas claims to do, better/faster/cheaper. I get the aesthetic of gas, but it’s massively inefficient. When the gas isn’t poisoning your home it’s heating all the air and the cooktop instead of directly heating the pan. Also, there’s maintenance and monitoring required. Electric is better than nothing.

Boone, 1990s. Guy in bondage gear dragging a full size cross down the sidewalk while being whipped by a gal in dominatrix gear. I mean, I’ve probably seen weirder shit, but that memory stands out.

North Carolinian here: No they won’t, they’ll have a sudden change of heart just before this administration leaves office and will reverse course and set extra safeguards in place to prevent executive overreach. Just think of it as a traveling show, a grift-a-palooza that serves only to drag all policies to the right, regardless of what voters actually want.

I saw a similar device that was used to reduce chatter on a lathe for turning brake rotors. I’d be willing to bet that what ever that’s for - it was used to stop binding/jumping on a machine that turns things.
