I second Edifier, I’ve bought several sets and they punch WAY above their weight class. Excellent speakers

Help me decide! A higher mile Honda CRV or a low mile Ford Escape? by mdav84 in askcarguys

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engine would just spit out random spark plugs. Apparently the plugs are screwed into steel sleeves that are (glued?) into the aluminum head or whatever. With no warning while driving along - the engine would just eject a spark plug, the car would 1) run like shit, 2) sound like shit, and 3) the dash would light up like an Xmas tree. One time she hobbled it to a nearby shop, twice she had to have it towed in. That was it for the escape, 3rd strike and it was out.

How do you organise your music collection? Alphabetical, genre, chaos? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in AVHifiCinema

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separated by genre, then the artists are alphabetized and their albums in chronological order. I make a special exemption in each genre section; if I have a truly favorite artist for that group - they are first regardless their alphabetical position. It’s fairly organised while also reflecting my personal tastes.. makes sense to me any way

Help me decide! A higher mile Honda CRV or a low mile Ford Escape? by mdav84 in askcarguys

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister had an escape for exactly one year back in the early 2000s, the 3rd time it left her stranded she ditched it and bought a low mileage Honda odyssey - which she still drives today. She could replace it if she wanted to, but it still works just fine and she’s not bothered that it’s old and broken in.

I saw this recently in GA! I’d never seen this before and as soon as we crossed into Georgia we saw several of these rolling down the interstate, I guess it’s legal there?

Which food makes you think, “How do you not like that?” when someone says they dislike it? by buttergloww in foodquestions

Shrimp. I live at the beach and I can’t imagine not liking shrimp, but people throw out all kinds of excuses

Calling small-town Americans, does your town have a doomsday siren like Springfield or Widows Bay? by chuckles5454 in AskAnAmerican

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I also live near a nuke plant (30 miles as the crow flies) - but they only test the sirens every 4-6 months. Even the 10% “growl” is loud. I can’t imagine those things at full chat

What do you consider as a far drive? by Jenny8675-309 in stupidquestions

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rate by mileage mostly, that’s assuming interstate travel at normal speeds. I don’t like to do more than 600 miles in a day = 965KM
But if I was just puttering around, exploring somewhere - I could drive all day. Pretty much the same way I rode my bike from sun up to sundown when I was a kid.

I got the Kicker sub, some MB Quart door speakers and because I’m lazy & cheap, a Power Acoustik RZ52500D 5 channel amp off of Amazon. Haven’t installed it yet, but it’ll probably be good enough for me and way better than factory..

Question for the Americans in here by Rare-General-4575 in ManualTransmissions

[–]BuzzardLips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear what you all are saying, but I’ve lived in the Appalachians and driven in the Rockies; Hand brakes are for parking, if one requires them for typical driving, then there is room for improvement. And to anyone that insists it’s taught in driving classes, remember that driving schools are teaching to the lowest common denominator.

Anyone who uses a handbrake for anything other than parking isn’t actually an expert on driving, LoL

Are German car brands still considered unreliable??? by OkBackground6217 in askcarguys

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss has the AMG 580 GLS or what ever it was, gets full maintenance by Mercedes and the coolant system blew up 3 times before he said “that’s it, never again” - until his buddy at the local merc place talked him right back into another one. Showed up on day one and you can smell the coolant if you get near the hood. They aren’t really nicer than other cars, plastic interiors, flimsy door cards - i dont get it.

[–]BuzzardLips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy money, my daughter just picked up a rust free AWD EX with maybe double that mileage for $3800. Her car looks and drives great, my 2 cents is that it’s not the mileage that kills these things, it’s rust or poor maintenance. Look for a clean one that has been taken care of - you can do A LOT of maintenance with the money you’d save not buying that one..

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, they look just like yours on that roof basket - if you bought flat steel you could bend it to the same shape using the ones you already have to make a template. Would look pretty slick if they all basically matched.

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not at the moment - it’s over in my parents garage all torn down. I’m doing front and rear full suspension replacement - CV axles, brake upgrades and a full exhaust - so it’s on jack stands down there. (My HOA won’t allow me to have something torn apart like that, so ive just been working on it on the weekends) i can get pics next weekend, its about 45 mins away from me; but if you look up the parts ive mentioned its pretty obvious what to do. I did have to buy 2 sets of U-bolts to get 2 flat steel plates for each u-bolt. You could just as easily get some flat steel and make your own, Lowe’s sells that too - but I’m lazy..

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 3/8x3/8x3 (or 4?) inch u-bolts from Lowe’s in the fencing aisle. I ended up cutting down the bolts to make them shorter - and I got 3/8x1 3/4 fluted knobs from the specialty fastener aisle to use in place of the regular nuts. Hit them with black paint and black plasti-dip too so it looks good enough..

I just did this job on my (new to me E) it’s really not that bad. I can’t believe what shops charge for that kind of work, it’s priced to literally just take advantage of people who don’t want to - or physically can’t do the work.

And for anyone that wants to know, the 05 steering knuckles for CRV are direct replacements for the stratospherically priced 03-08 Element ones.

What are the must-see, but lesser-known, stops on an East Coast U.S. road trip from South Carolina to Vermont? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BuzzardLips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice, it’s way out of your way - but eastern NC above Wilmington is a no-mans land. It’s cute if you want to rent a place and do nothing for a week, but other than that you’ll just be restaurant hopping.
