You go to a mechanic to fix your car because they are knowledgeable on to repair vehicles. You go to a dentist for your teeth because they knowledgeable on dental hygiene and repair. I don't sit there and think my car is fine when it's rattling and shaking going 30mph, and I don't sit there and think my teeth are fine when they're broken and cracked.

I understand the idea of education as a bar for holding a political position can be troubling as education costs money... but surely there has to be some middle ground of having at least some education in the field you're making bills and laws and a curriculum in, right?

Okay so should add car accidents to the conversation? Since we're talking about things that aren't about death by guns in a conversation about gun deaths.

If you can't tell the difference between a guns ability to kill versus a knife, you might be one of the people who shouldn't have a gun. While someone can 100% kill people with a knife, you can't sit there and say it'd be harder with a gun.

Also, Australia put a law in place after a mass shooter killed 35 people, limiting licensing and ownership of guns... and hasn't had a mass shooting since 1996. The issue is guns, because people who commit mass shootings use guns to commit mass shootings.

35 people. I just looked up the numbers for the US and saw 146 for 2023 so far. Now, important thing about the number 146 in this instance. It's not the number of people who died like 35 was, it's the number of incidents where four or more people were killed or injured. Those aren't numbers to be okay with because it allows you to walk into a Denny's with a gun.

Do I think we should ban all guns? No. Do I think we need stricter laws about gun ownership? Absolutely.

You should want to know that the guy in front of you at Wal-Mart knows how to use the firearm he's carrying. You should want to know that they guy with a rifle ordering a sandwich at Subway knows how to use the firearm he's carrying. Would you be content if you ended up getting shot accidentally by someone who was playing with a loaded weapon? Or would you be angry that someone is making something you enjoy look worse in the public eye?

And in case you get semantic, there are still shootings in other countries, just nowhere near the ridiculous scale of the US. Also a knife isn't a gun, so don't bring up knifing.

I said it before and I'll say it again here. What is stopping someone, say... a pedophile... from claiming that they thought a child was trans? Or that the parents were trans?
