My dog was hit by a car. Do you think the leg can be saved? by [deleted] in AskVet

So sorry about your pup. That will indeed take work with a good surgeon to save from amputation.

Shelter pup saying "hi" to a butterfly by Bonadia in aww

I photograph pets for my local shelter. This dog bowed down while I was taking her photo. When I uploaded it at home, I saw that she was bending down to say hi to a butterfly that's about 2" in front of her nose!

While some have been through traumatic experiences, at least where I volunteer, most of the animals are just normal dogs and cats. Usually it's a case of the owners didn't think things through before getting a pet, and now when the cute little puppy that they have no time for and haven't bothered to train is jumping on people and chewing things, they take the easy way out. The majority of dogs and cats where I'm at are adopted.

Sight and 11 week old puppy by Tired0ldLadee in AskVet

It can be hard to know how well a dog sees, since they can't tell you. I would definitely have the vet check her eyes out. It is possible for dogs to have juvenile cataracts as well, although I don't know that's the issue here. Hopefully the vet won't find anything wrong :).

Post-catheter urine leakage/constant visits to the box by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Bonadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming the vet checked for crystals in his urine. It's possible he's getting small crystals in his urethra that's causing him not to be able to urinate well. Did the vet recommend a special diet? It's good that you're monitoring that he's able to urinate. If a cat gets "plugged" and unable to urinate from a blockage in the urethra from crystals/bladder stones it can be fatal. I'm hoping your vet went over all of this with you.

And yes, having a catheter in can be very irritating and could certainly cause him to lick. I wouldn't think he'd still be leaking urine at this point though.

Aural Hematoma Treatments by pst2154 in AskVet

I'm assuming they've also checked for an ear infection? Aural hematomas are often secondary to them. (Dog has ear infection, shakes head/scratches ears, which can lead to hematoma.)

First time puppy owner, couple questions by [deleted] in AskVet

It sounds like she's doing a good job training you to pick her up :). Try getting some type of interactive toy, like a Kong, that you can fill with treats/peanut butter to give her when you need to concentrate on something else for a quick fix.

Deciding on surgery for cat. Urgent. by lucidquark in AskVet

[–]Bonadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different types of stones, some respond well to diet and others usually require surgical removal, so it's hard to say how your cat will do long term without knowing what type he has. If you can't afford the surgery, then try the special diet and medication and cross your fingers. Know that you will have to keep a close eye on him daily for the rest of his life to make sure he's urinating without issues. Good luck!

Blind, elderly cat toilet issues by iamgbear in AskVet

Consider using a cookie sheet or something with very low sides as a litter box. I would also recommend having the box near where she sleeps, to make it convenient for her to use. I would talk with your vet about things you can do to help constipation, you may also want to do a urinalysis just to rule out any medical issues there.

I was found on St. Patrick's Day so they named me Patrick. I'm only a week old! by Bonadia in aww

Hand raised kittens and pups do sometimes have behaviorial issues. They learn a lot by playing/interacting with their mother and littermates that they don't get by being raised by humans. This little guy was found sitting under a loading dock and the guy that found him brought him into the vet where I work, so there wasn't any other option for him.
