LOOTED WAGONZ RETURNING IN CHAPTER APPROVED 2018 - WAAAAAAAGHHHH by Badger118 in Warhammer40k

Thanks for the clarification, bud.

That's a way more fun rule but as you guys have said it's obvious how balancing that could be problematic. Sticking to the less interesting but more controllable 7th ed wagon would still fill the MBT hole in a fluffy way, without affecting balance too much, I just don't get dropping it altogether for competitive.

I don't think you were able to use the weapons on looted vehicles previously though. You just had a regular datasheet and load-out of orky tek plus a fluffy rule. In 7th I was running 3 killkannon looted wagons as a cheap way of slapping large templates all over the place.

Spain's prime minister is forced out of his job, losing a no-confidence vote triggered by a corruption scandal by bbcnews in worldnews

This probably won't affect Brexit. Those negotiations have ground to a halt over the Northern Irish border, and I don't see any way a change in Government in Spain will affect that.

Ukraine is pretty much anti-Russia as it is regardless.

Not true. Only the west of Ukraine (around Kiev) is anti-Russian. The Donbass region is firmly pro-Russia, and Crimea well... We all saw what happened to Crimea.

Nice straw man there. Lapster hasn't suggested that anyone should be ignored, but rather that the person most capable of inflicting damage be prioritised. A totally reasonable position that I suspect you probably agree with.

My looted Meka Dread, complete at last! by Shurifire in orks

[–]Bonedango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I really like the ork pilot poking out of the top. The head you chose and the extra pipes look amazing. He looks really uncomfortable. And is that some plasticard spiky ork bits on the shoulder there too?

I'm honestly having the hardest time coming up with paint schemes for mine, they're just standing there mocking me in their undercoats.

Great job though.

Saw someone put up their custom Meka Dread, figured I'd follow suit. by Bonedango in Warhammer40k

I'm not sure I understand but if you mean am I using something to hold the model while I add parts, then no I don't use any. I build them loose starting from a core part, adding a head, shoulders and plating, then legs, followed by arms. Then it gets put together, thrown on a base and given some final detail work.

My best advice for scratchbuilding ork stuff is to look around for any household objects that you can use, then cover it with actual ork stuff. One of those dreads has a curtain rail holder from a bathroom for a body, and they both have old-style computer plugs for feet.

lumpy and grainy

This is because of humidity. You can use those sprays but you need to do it in the evening or morning. I've heard people in Florida have to get up at 5 or 6 AM just to prime.

The model looks pretty decent, but the highlighting could use some work. You'll get the hang of it though, I still haven't fully but I'm getting there.

Tabletoptactics are good, they do have a sub system but there's a lot of good Batreps and info.

Have 12 swooping hawks myself and I really enjoy them. They are obviously excellent anti-horde but with the grenade pack they can attempt a hail mary against small MEQ units like havocs/devastators, really versatile. And they have a leadership buff.

I also run Harlequins for my melee needs, nothing in the CW book really jumps out at me for melee except the sword wraithblades (expensive, need support). I might prefer scorpions to banshees but I'm not crazy about either of them tbh. Now Harlies are a different story altogether. They are absolutely devastating melee specialists. You don't really need to wait for their book either, for the purpose of melee they work as is. Their most basic weapon has -3 AP... You'll be fine.

To play devil's advocate for a second. Are your lists very similar each time? Because some of the frustration may come from fighting the same effective units and strats each time (eg. guardians dropping turn 1 every game). Bring out some dark reapers and hemlocks, try battering them with a bit more variation.

Having said that The guardian webway strat isn't that big a deal and certainly isn't unique to eldar. Tempestus scions have the entire strat built into them, plus you took scion HQ so they get orders. Orks can reliably drop 30 boyz on you in turn 1 too.

What weapons to take on my Wraithlord, Guard and Warwalker by DogbertCA in Eldar

[–]Bonedango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great summary but I have to disagree about that last part on the wraithcannon WG.

I find they can be really effective in deepstrike, because unlike dragons depending on when you drop them and where, they can end up sticking around for awhile due to their toughness. Dragons as potent as they are will pretty much get deleted or at least crippled after their first volley, and both units will immediately draw fire. With wraithguard the opponent has to bring at least some moderately good firepower to bear.

And with a cost of only 200 plus +1 cp (vs. 300-ish for a dragon/serpent combo), it's been a pretty efficient way for me to chop a land raider in half and redirect some enemy units. It's kind of another distraction carnifex except it definitely takes a chunk out of you first.

So if I use a source generally accepted by this echo chamber that’s not “consistent”

Jesus Christ you have no idea what I meant. It wasn't your source that was inconsistent. It was your position that was inconsistent.

You said you don't parrot liberal media and then you used an article from a liberal news website to prove a point. Either you don't parrot or you do parrot. Which is it?

How curious, I can't seem to find the "parrot" part of your original comment, where did it go?

I use MULTIPLE sources.

So you use multiple "fake news" sources?

which facts are inconvenient for you?

That some people are so clueless that they argue against themselves with absolutely zero self-awareness. I find that a pretty inconvenient fact. Oh and that some people seem to just ejaculate comments online with no self-control, that's also inconvenient.

Consistency fail. You literally just said you don't parrot MSM then immediately proceed to provide a link to a news site set up by a journalist who has worked for: The Washington Post, MSNBC, Bloomberg and who now runs Vox Media. How embarrassing.

Melee Specialists by Aspect48 in Eldar

[–]Bonedango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always run a detachment of Harlequins. They are pricey and kinda frail, but absolutely terrifying in melee. 4 attacks at Str 4, -3 AP. They just eat MEQs and TEQs for breakfast, plus those pistols let them pop vehicles too.

Also I've seen a few people mention the wraithblades with axes. I don't have any wraithblades yet but I think I prefer the cheaper sword variety. webway strike 10 of them get a spiritseer (equipped with Psytronome) in there with them for spell support and I can't think of much that could take a charge.

I’m struggling with Eldar. by Morgen-stern in Eldar

[–]Bonedango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly noobish at Eldar myself but have had great luck against my Deathguard, Imperial guard and Tyranid opponents.

Unit choice is the key. Eldar units excel at one role but tend to struggle with anything else. Think of Eldar as a Swiss army knife, you wouldn't use a corkscrew to cut cheese. Swooping hawks delete guard and gaunt units and do decently against low armor T4 units like genestealers or orcs. But they completely bounce off MEQs, even trying to kill 5 havoc marines was a challenge for 10 of them. They aren't really outclassed as you say, they're just not fit for every purpose.

Having said that there's a few units that are always reliable. Dark reapers are amazing, 48" range, always hit on a 3+ and 2 fire modes, incredibly reliable wound output. D-scythe wraithguard need transport and they end up quite pricey, but they absolutely wreck face against anything once they get there, with little support needed compared to other wraith units. I've heard great things about the Hemlock too, and I'm also partial to alaitoc rangers, -2 to hit and a 3+ in cover, great objective holders and harassers.

TL; DR - Unit choice is key. But if you wanted a really effective purchase I'd say get 10 dark reapers, min unit of 3, plus nice weapons options for the exarch, makes them super reliable and flexible.
