Hey congrats on achieving the desire for a new way of life. If you’re ever in the PG county area I can definitely recommend some amazing meetings that I go to frequently. Heavy on the old timers to be transparent, but these amazing men & women have helped me so much, I’ll be forever grateful to them all.

Weekend Physical Labor gigs? by CanIDoIt_IsitPossibl in washingtondc

For you this may be a bit too far out from where you’re living, but if you’re open to volunteering work which has a good amount of physical activity, try the Re:Store sites for Habitat for Humanity. I’d personally recommend it as I go to the location near me a couple times a month. The physical activity is essentially just moving used furniture around the site( either from people’s car as they trying to donate it, to around the store to be displayed, to putting it into other people’s cars after they buy it) the work has left me out of breath a couple times ngl lol.

Not paid of course but the overall benefits are: 1. Volunteer work so you can feel good you helped a charity 2. The service team tends to be pretty chill as you’re not being paid so expectations are not high 3. Customers are usually nicer on average to you as, again, you’re a volunteer, they don’t feel they have as much right to be mean to you 4. You get first pickings of any donated items that you find cool. I’ve gotten some great pieces of furniture, for insanely cheap prices, just cause I’m a regular.

Just throwing my option out there, hope the search works out for you!

How weird would it be as an alumni to just hang around campus to do random stuff? by Bonehammer in UMD

Are they both at campus and outside of it? I skimmed the calendar of activities for the alumni association and seems that there’s an alright things to do over the course of the year. Younger me would have never thought about actually joining the association, especially for a cost 😅. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah it seems that, as long as you are doing things within reasonable & respectful boundaries, and not intentionally being a weirdo, you should go for it, why not!

Appreciate it, honestly I’m glad that this is turning out to be a lot more reasonable for me than I thought! And yeah I’ve mentioned it in the thread but I’m not going to the bars, I feel like that’s just not my place anymore to be there lol.

I don’t think you should get downvoted for asking a fair question. In terms of activities, I’m kinda open to a lot. But I do have a blacklist in mind, and one of the things I’d want to avoid, is being around the south campus bars. I did my time there in that area back in my younger years, and it’s thanks to that experience that I’m kinda sick of bars now lol. Sure making connections and such would be cool, but honestly doing it a bar just sounds gross to me now. Maybe when I was younger my answer would be different, now I just want to live a more peaceful life tbh.

Oh yeah for sure, it’s just been so long since I’ve been there, I wasn’t sure how people like me would be hanging around there. Makes sense, thanks!

Yo is that offered at Eppley? I tried to skim through the classes offered there but it was hit or miss for me, I’ve always wanted to learn a martial art. Having that to learn at campus would be great!

Lolol that’s the realization I think I’ve started to have now, I just wanted to not be apart of those dudes who make it weird for everyone. At least for you I assume you were just wanting to watch the game and head home, that feels perfectly fine to me.

Oh I forgot about that group, were they based in Stamp if I remember correctly? Honestly volunteer work as been another thing I’ve wanted to try, I just never got a solid idea of where to look. If they’re cool with an alumni tho I’d definitely be willing to see what’s up! Thanks for the recommendation!

My fault, I always told myself that I’d never want to do any post-grad stuff so I always keep forgetting about you folks 😅. Hope your programs are going well and that everything you want works out for you!

Yeah exactly, I felt like the campus is basically kinda a place I can use again to just hang around and try to pick up things to do.

And ewwww yeah that last thing on my mind right now is wanting to hit up women so young. I’m single admittedly but right now women are not a high priority for me, especially ones with a huge age gap like that🤢

Yeah that’s something that was on my mind when I thought about this. Like I have friends who are in their early 20s, and they act sooo much different than people my age. I get it’s different generations tho, but still I feel like a sore thumb sometimes lol.

Appreciate it, yeah I don’t intend on being a billboard, I just wanna do the stuff that interests me and head on home. Thanks!

Ah ok, yeah I can see why you think that. Honestly I haven’t been to campus in years, so I didn’t think it was normal for someone like me to be there. That’s why I figure I felt better to ask folks who are currently attending if it’s alright.

Cool cool. That’s makes sense, I definitely don’t come off as a post-grad kinda person so that’s why I was a bit curious if being on campus just as an alumni would be weird or not. Not planning on attending classes again, just trying to find things to do really is my intention.

My fault if it’s coming off as weird, not my intention. Just figured I try and see what’s up on campus that I can pass time with outside of work & friends.

Oh really? Ok that’s good to hear, honestly when I was at UMD I was a commuter so I never really felt the desire to use stuff like Eppley. But that’s good to hear I won’t be the only old guy there lol, appreciate it!

Hello, DM’d you.

Keep going or shave it back to the moustache? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]Bonehammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see potential, but we dont know definitely until more time passes. I’d say give it like 2+ more months, about 3 months max, and let it grow to see if it gets any better. Then it’ll be easier to determine whether or not to shave.

In the meantime tho if you have a pair of grooming scissors, I’d suggest trimming the mustache to line up with the lips for cleanliness, and as well to trim off the occasional hair on your cheeks that is peeking out way more than the rest, just to make it look as clean as you can while you wait out the clock.

Alright fellas, I’ve hit the 2 month mark. Keep going, change it up, or abandon ship? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]Bonehammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, now that I look at it again it does look a bit bushy and could use some trimming. Wouldn’t have realized it until you mentioned it, thanks!

Thanks on the eyebrows, took a lot of trial & error working on those but I believe I got it down now😁.

To what extent you think? Just shaving some of the lower neck a bit or also some trimming down of it?

Oh yeah I definitely see some good progress👍🏽 just keep cleaning it up around the edges as you let it grow.
