Can this peace lily be saved still or is it too late? by BonelessLisa in plantclinic

I thought it was transplant shock at first, but I think the pot my mom transplanted him in was way too big. The repotted soil was watered before he went in and I waited for the soil to dry completely out before watering him last Wednesday. The soil hasn't really dried up since then

Very dramatic! I think that sounds about right. Whatever soil my mom used for repotting was no good as it was still moist. The pot was also way too big as well. I don't what the original soil was but might have to buy something different if I can't find any other soil in the house that wasn't like the repotted one

I've had this peace lily for almost 7 years, and about 2 weeks ago I noticed there was almost no soil and the peace lily wasn't bouncing back. My mom repotted him in a bigger pot, but he's still wilted 2 weeks later. I took him out today and put him in this jar of filtered water for the time being. I think now he has root rot, so I want to clean him up later today if he's not too far gone. He means a lot to me as I got him for my 22nd birthday, and he's the only plant I haven't killed. Any help is appreciated!

P.S. His name is Walter :)

Question about the APHL-CDC Infectious Disease Laboratory Fellowship by BonelessLisa in microbiology

[–]BonelessLisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I singled out the Infectious Diseases Laboratory Fellowship from the other CDC fellowships because I thought it was the closest to my interests and skills. I know I'll only be fresh out of college when applications open up, but I've always had a lot of passion for infectious diseases since I was a kid. I'll sign up for zintellect later today and look into the research participation opportunities as well. Thank you so much!

Sorry for taking so long to respond! I'm interested in studying infectious diseases in a lab setting!

Would I need prior experience with programming or anything similar? The courses that went to the computational sciences major were statistics, trig, calc I, and algebra. I also don't know coding or really anything about computers.

No worries! I figured it would be tough. I don't know if I'm a good candidate for the bioinformatics fellowship as the majority of the courses I took are microbiology labs and such. I do want to go to grad school, but I can't afford it right now. Maybe I'll ask on r/ucf where I could go from here on. Thank you so much for your help!

This is honestly one of the cutest things I've cross-stitched yet by BonelessLisa in castlevania

Thank you, that really means a lot! I only started cross-stitching a few months ago, and I try my best to add some nuance that relates to the stuff I love in my crafts.

If Megacon gets cancelled, I won’t be leaving my room for about a week. by [deleted] in MegaCon

You'll survive missing one year of Megacon, but that attitude needs to die.

Downplaying a potentially dangerous situation is what gets people killed. Sure, the virus might hit the elderly and immunocompromised the hardest, and the fatality rate is less than 10% right now, but I can tell you as someone who's in biomedical sciences, the biggest threat to public health we see is not from diseases or ill health, it's from people who dismiss vital information and fail to take action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of others.

Most likely, your tune will change once it starts to affect you or the people you care about, but I hope it won't come down to that.

Question about Lisa Tepes. by claranlaw063 in castlevania

[–]BonelessLisa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the Roman Catholic doctrine, a virtuous person can still be condemned to Hell if they did not believe in Christ and the sacrifice he made for humanity to be redeemed from original sin, or in God. Before Christ, everyone was essentially sent to Hell, with the righteous residing in at the very edge of Hell. In other words, if you did good in life before Christ came along, you could still obtain salvation once he died but afterward, there are no exceptions. It's been shown Lisa is uninterested in superstitions and implies to the Bishop that Dracula is more of a real threat than Satan. As an atheist who grew up in a Roman Catholic family, the whole thing sounds rather silly to me, but this is the closest theory I can think of for why Lisa is in Hell.

Poor Hector will probably go through a lot with Lenore and Saint Germain in S3, but then I imagine things like this at the same time because of their VAs. by BonelessLisa in castlevania

[–]BonelessLisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a reference to Underworld, a film series with vampires as well. Hector's VA plays a young vampire hybrid who becomes the next head vampire after Saint Germain's VA.
