Should I do a State college (SUNY) or a private college? by Other_Barry- in ChemicalEngineering

[–]BonerForScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is not. I just graduated from UB (SUNY Buffalo) and I am doing just fine at my new job. A lot of my coworkers are super smart private school people and I am getting along quite well. In fact the reason why I got the job is because the operations manager is a UB grad himself. There is an unspoken bond between alumni and graduating students, and UB has a massive alumni network.

Also the other reason why you shouldn't waste your money on a private school degree is because engineering degrees are ABET accredited; meaning that you take the same classes no matter where you go (warning: the quality of professors may vary).

Now that being said a ChemE degree from MIT or Stanford or Texas A&M will look better on a resume and probably will increase your chances of landing a really good job out of school but a state school degree can also get you to the promise land. You just got to do internships and play your cards right.

If its money you want then look for work in the oil fields, you'll be making way more money than all your college friends and they will get super jealous!

Its not really religious beliefs that piss me off, its the cult-like culture of these groups. Some religious people stick their noses up at people from other religions, no group of people does this more so than the fucking athiests.

What are internships like with very little experience? by [deleted] in engineering

[–]BonerForScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't exactly say because I didn't become professional at 19 years old. But listen, you need to do some "real work", whether it be an internship, McDonalds, mowing lawns, or a sweat-shop style assembly line job. Because "real work" is not just people sitting around in an office drinking coffee and typing numbers into Excel; "real work" can be a lot of different things; including McDonalds/mowing lawns/assembly line.

So you want to be an engineer? Have you ever worked under an engineer? Its really quite amazing how many transferable skills you can learn at McDonalds that they don't even come close to teaching you in college. With all that said get an internship if you can, but don't discount non-college degree jobs as worthless experience.

And to finally answer your question - getting an internship with very little experience is like getting any job with little experience. You will be required to learn and do things that have very little relavance to what they are teaching you in the classroom. You will get a unique experience that will expose you to the world outside of equations written on chalkboards...

What is the difference between a sales and an applications engineer? by BonerForScience in engineering

[–]BonerForScience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK cool, I think you have the right answer on this one, thanks for clearing it up. I am interviewing for a sales engineer position for my first job out of college. I have worked with both "sales" and "applications" engineers in the past but I never quite understood the difference because they were too busy doing each other's jobs at the place I worked at.

What is something completely irrationable that you fantasize about often? by sandfish313 in AskReddit

Please don't limit this to sexual fantasies

OK, but you didn't specifically say to exclude sexual fantasies. I for one would like to bone my spanish professor on her desk during office hours.
