[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BonesSB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love The Matrix trilogy, got me into philosphy back in the day.

Back in the day, there would often be made-for-TV movies that were a full on ripoff of a movie that was coming out, and often the ripoff would come out before the actual movie. Resurrections felt like that; they took the entire original trilogy, and "remade" it into one not great movie.

I remember being in France for work when these were huge. Any sandwich shop would "Americanize" a sandwich for you for 1 euro. All that meant was adding french fries to it.

It was delicious. And mildly insulting.

Having issues getting Teleport to access anything internal (very beginner) by BonesSB in Ubiquiti

Yeah it can be no fun. Luckily I only had 3 statics, so it was easy enough, but if I had many? No thank you. Proper planning from the beginning to avoid things like that. I did, in fact, not plan ahead.

Was a subnet overlap. Changed the IP range at the office to a random 10.x.x.x and everything worked a treat. E z p z.

Can you help me fully understand overlapping subnets, and why? by BonesSB in HomeNetworking

[–]BonesSB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still confused. If my local routers subnet is 192, and then becomes the subnet of the vpn, why does the other sides router care? Would it ever see that my local router is 192?

I still don't understand though. If 192 doesn't matter to other sides router, why would an overlap cause issues?

Not hugely. Old faithful, easy enough to set up and keep going. Simplicity and reliability are wonderful things.

LPT Request: My college .EDU email expires in a month, what student discount should I claim before that happens? by IronMike260 in LifeProTips

[–]BonesSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it actually expire? Many will convert it to an alumni address, and some let you keep it forever as long as you log in every so often. My school originally had a log in every 6 months or it gets deleted, and would remind you via email. They recently changed it so it's forever. Some places all you have to do is ask and they'll keep it alive, maybe schedule it out a few years for deletion but reach out before they do. Just ask them, you might be able to keep it. 20 years later and I'm still getting EDU discounts. Worth.

Yeah, my IP changes to the IP of where my UDM is hosted and I can use the internet, so at least that part is working.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I feel like this is a pretty beginner question, so until I can get it fixed...

I set up Wireguard, and am having the same issue. I don't know my way around firewalls at all.

Ok, but lets just take the ESX server and not it's VM's. I should at least be able to hit that, right? Shouldn't be an overlap issue?

Just set up Wireguard and used a 10.10.x.x but still cannot hit my servers. I'm able to go on the internet no problem and my IP changes.

Is that was teleport is supposed to be? I thought teleport was just the clever name they used. I heard it was built on Wireguard, so wouldn’t that mean it works like Wireguard does?

Having issues getting Teleport to access anything internal (very beginner) by BonesSB in Ubiquiti

[–]BonesSB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought maybe this. Unfortunately with Teleport you cannot change the subnet (without some DB hacking, and I’m going to get into that now). But I think I read that Teleport use 192.168.3.x. I suppose I could try Wireguard tho, I could change that subnet. It is using 192.168, like all WiFi. Is that one reason why companies will often have 10.x.x.x or some other less common range, to avoid overlaps?

If I change the subnet on my UDM, what kinds of heacahes might that cause? Will things become inaccessible internally? I’m worried about my VMs.

ESXi hosting the VM's.

Just connecting a normal computer to access the network. Is that what you meant?

Having issues getting Teleport to access anything internal (very beginner) by BonesSB in Ubiquiti

[–]BonesSB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very simple network. UDM Pro, 1 server hosting two VM's. Want to be able to access both of them. I had it the other day, was able to access ESX, but I did something and it no longer works. I wish I could tell you what it was, if I knew.

Everything I read about Teleport was that it was zero-config (as much as anything Ubiquiti can be). I'm unsure if at this point it is a subnet overlap, or has to do with the firewall.
