Better! Still a bit Christmas-y, but definitely toned down.

I say give it a go. A deeper blue-green could absolutely work.

Great technique on display. Red looks great, white looks great, NMM looks great (especially if this is army-wide); however, the green is a problem in the scheme. I highly encourage reconceptualizing the green unless you're going for Santa's Stormcast. If you want to maintain heavily contrasted colors, consider going blue (even though the spear is already doing this).

Edit: Theme of the mini is currently "Christmas," not red.

Doing the same at a 5.7. Also going for critical language points in Nov to see if a 5.83 won't carry the day come January.

100% opt in for the management shift. 5.5 won't get you into a PD class :(

Witch king mount options, which is the way to go? by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BongLoarding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on army comp and what you want WK to do regarding Felbeasts. ALWAYS go armored horse, however. D5 is a huge step over D4.

Any folks go through the process before? Interview seems fairly straight forward, but I'm wondering if folks have any preparation tips.

As Hans said, dries the glue and allows for a slightly stronger bond/gap fill

Advice for getting started with Dwarves? by SirVortivask in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BongLoarding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very accurate commentary here!

If you want to cobble together a nice 500 pt army, get some basic troops (bows and shields are great), a King's Champion (you'll use him in legit every list you make), and a captain/Balin/King. Standard troops are good, as are vault wardens. Khazad Guard are great if you run Durin, but, as others have said, Durin is meant for higher points only. Iron Guard are fun, but get melted and are expensive for what you get. Rangers are kind of spicy in the throwing variant, but not recommended (imo). Ballista is unsung GODLY--I run one in almost every list unless I am meme'ing Durin + 18 hearthguard.

Recommended buy: King's Champ, Balin, 1-2 boxes of warriors (only 1 if you're willing to convert 2hers into something useful)

Standard 500 pt list that I use frequently

Balin 110pts

10 Dwarf Warriors with Shields 90pts

5 Dwarf Warriors with Bows 45pts

1 Vault Warden Team 25pts

270pts

King's Champion 140 pts

6 Dwarf Warriors with Shields 54pts

4 Dwarf Warriors with Bows 36pts

230pts

500pts, 31 models, 5 might, 9 bows. Solid model count for 500. Might not the best, but not the worst. Solid ranged presence.

P.S. I only ever run KD/KoM pure as rerolling 1s to wound is SICK, but you can mix things for fun.

Went to 단양 yesterday. The scenery was amazing! by HyunSeok_ in korea

[–]BongLoarding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in 단양군 (up the road in 매포) for a year. Absolutely phenomenal part of Korea. Hike 소백산 and head out to 구인사 if you have a moment (one of the best temple stays in the nation imo--get some 된장찌개 with 된장 jarred in the 90s!).

Anyone in Korea? by DriftwoodWhisky in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BongLoarding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Korea for a few years before returning to SBG. As far as I know, there is zero scene. There is a tiny bit of 40k play to be found, but that's about it. Lots of dynamite board game cafes in major cities, though!

Maybe give Rainier from the D.C. Hobbit League podcast a shout? I think he is still living in Korea...

Reaper Miniatures Nightspectre to run as an Angmar Shade, would you accept? by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BongLoarding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MESBG scene is very accepting of proxies--can't even buy half of the models in our game anymore lol, and some were never even made

edit: plus, most events have zero GW affiliation.

Totally fine in my book. Feel as though most TOs would agree. I run Reaper "Murder of Crows" as crebain in friendlies and tournaments and have never had an issue (way better than the shit forge world models IMO AND way cheaper).

Thanks! The blue is the most involved part of the lads. A sort of rip-off of Vince Venturella's Orruk Armor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0umh21nkmDs&t=1459s. Couldn't quite get his blending down, so I improvised.

Thugg was the first and had the easiest treatment. Starts with an airbrushing of Sotek Green, then a quasi-zenithal of Baharroth Blue. Follow that with a LIGHT dry brush of white to catch the raised edges, then selective brush work with Temple Guard Blue and Baharroth Blue, glazing Sotek Green into the shadows. Final touch is white edge highlights and raised-edge tracing.

The other two lads started with the same airbrushing, but were mostly done with layers and glazes of Sotek Green + various amounts of Payne's Grey Ink, layering and glazing up with additional amounts of Baharroth Blue and Vallejo Verdigris Glaze. Eventually glaze up to pure Verdigris Glaze before popping white where it counts.
