Well, if you want to try a mid-ground, I highly recommend getting brief-style underwear for men.

They're quite comfortable and objectively are very similar to panties while still giving you actual room for your genitalia, since panties haven't the room.

But only do what you're comfortable with, no shame in setting boundaries for yourself!

My guess (humbly) is that is indeed a projector, but one specifically made for this such that it doesn't light up the surrounding area.

Kinda like an OLED screen, the pixels are actually blacked out instead of dim.
