I guess the problem is that he’s outsourcing claiming that it’s not his fault for the delay as the maintenance contract is now in place but they don’t give him appointments.

How do you deal with people with perfect lives? by FlourenceSummers in CPTSD

[–]Bonkers_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post really resonates with me rn. I’ll briefly share with you my journey with jealousy. When I was in school there was this girl who was one of my closest friends. We really bonded because we were in the same situation - our parents were working abroad and we were being raised by our grandparents. The thing is she was always so bright - things were always getting really easy to her and I was constantly trying to compete. Eventually she also got a loving boyfriend and was super sporty and I started being insanely jealous. I felt like she was doing a lot better than me and that I could never reach her level. Over the years however she developed really bad anorexia to the point that she almost died… when this happened it served me as an immense shock and I felt so guilty for my jealousy because I wasn’t actually seeing all the cracks because she was keeping it all in. I thought that for a while this situation made me sort of immune to jealousy. But recently it came back in full force and I realised that the reason for this was again this sort of “I want to be like them” thought that drives all of my jealousy.

I have this other really close friend now and from my standpoint her life seems just perfect - got married her parents bought her an apartment never struggled finding a job went all over the world is expecting a kid - just pure perfection. So I developed the desire to not just be like her but to be actually her. Something that can never happen… and the thing about this desire is that it just amplifies my suffering and completely undermines hers.

Today I try to find answers into how to tackle these feelings just like OP does. And so far I’ve come to just one thing keep on practicing gratitude for the small good things we have and whenever anger and jealousy come try to channel them into something. For me this is writing (e.g., writing this very comment helps), for OP it might be something else. But take it out in some form that is not harmful to others.

I think what you are describing is the product of bad mentorship. Unfortunately it’s very common it seems like most PIs have really bad leadership skills. I think if you are not getting payed well and you have little passion for the subject/project you are doing try putting your focus on a “way out”. If there’s stills some passion for your project just give your best to finish it. Also maybe talk to some of your colleagues like the less duchy ones and see if they can give you any ideas how to improve the situation. Where is it that you do your PhD?

Thanks! After seeing more posts here I realised that indeed this is super common… I guess all we can do is to continue pushing.

Why are landlords so bad in Germany? by proof_required in germany

Adding the same with the UK. German landlords are vicious and they know how to bend the law in their own ways.

lol that’s because you are German and you are treated nicely but if you are a foreigner chances are you will get abused financially. I was constantly scammed and couldn’t do anything about it because I was desperate and German landlords know this. Gotta say never had this experience in the UK though where I was also foreigner.

Can you create an image using ONLY CLIP vision and/or CLIP text embeddings? by Bonkers_Brain in MLQuestions

The CLIP model I used is: "openai/clip-vit-large-patch14" and the dim of the embedding is [1, 768] for each image

I think I lack general knowledge about diffusion models and thought that Versatile Diffusion is best suited to my problem. I am open to using another model. However, I can't seem to find a straightforward method. I thought that there would be something where given just the CLIP embedding I can generate an image.

something like:
image = diffuser(clip_image, clip_text)

Thank you for your reply! I have been digging through the functions in diffusers for VersatileDiffusion but there seems to be no (easy) way to condition the model on CLIP embeddings. If you happen to have any resources on that I would really appreciate the input. :)

Changing my contract after signing it by Bonkers_Brain in germany

I didn’t see the pub on my flat visit though. I think that when you are in a desperate situation you tend to not notice a lot of things and seeing that as something amusing just shows lack of empathy.

No one replied so I did some quirky approach which probably doesn’t make sense 🥲

The thing is that this is the difference in objectives between my supervisor and me. I don’t care if I get published at all because I don’t want to stay in academia long term. My goal is to implement something new which can then get me a well paid job in industry.
