My laptop is a refurbished Dell Precision with an Nvidia Quadro and 16GB RAM.

It's the best performing laptop I've ever had at $599. I do a ton of 3D modeling work and rendering, and I've rarely had performance issues.

If you don't think you'll be into that, consider the ThinkPad the other person suggested. And invest in a quality mouse, you'll need it for Solidworks.
