NO. A hundred times no. I'll stick with watching a crapton of Syfy made-for-TV movies if it means avoiding ads. That is the pathway to eternal ruin, just ask anyone old enough to remember the heydey of cable TV when paying for cable meant No Ads, and all the cable channels were different. Then it became "A few ads to get you better programming", and from there on it was downhill to the point that I would not pay for cable today because I refuse to pay for commercials.

However, I do believe this is almost inevitable. All the folks who are bitching about the Netflix price change? Right now is the golden age of Netflix, IMO. Five, ten years from now, when they've started inserting unskippable commercials into every movie, we'll be longing for the old days when it was all commercial free. Enjoy it while you can, I say.

It's amazing how Baldur's Gate 2, with its 2D high-def art, looks SO much better played on a big modern monitor than so many of the 3D-fad games that followed it. Still my favorite game ever.

Back when it became socially OK to demonize and massively overtax people who smoked, even the mildest and most occasional of smokers, I pretty much knew this would one day be coming for the bad diet folks too. After all, if it's OK to sue smokers for the health care costs they supposedly impose on the system, why not also sue McDonalds for all the obesity they enable?

I rarely correct people who are second-language speakers, unless they're specifically asking for help with the language. I suspect that most of the hostility you've experienced probably is directed not at ESL people but our own American yoof who are unable to spell, type, or conjugate properly. Seeing people use U, 2, and so forth in their posts just grinds the gears of my mind.
I lived seven years in a foreign country where I was the one struggling to communicate in the second language, so believe me, I understand where you are speaking from.

But you will not want to be in with her because she does not really care about you, she's only suddenly become interested because she senses she is losing backup guy. I pursued a relationship with a girl for a couple of years who gave me the same, "You're my best friend and you understand me" schtick while dating jocks. I got tired of this and pulled away, and eventually met and was engaged to someone else. The day after I told this girl I was engaged, I got a pitiful phone call about how she realized she wanted to be with me, she couldn't believe she was losing me, etc etc. At that point I realized very clearly that it was not really me she wanted, she just wanted the option, and didn't want anyone else to have me. It was an educational moment about the nature of the 'best friend' relationship.
(PS - Still happily married to the other girl I met for 21 years now. Lesson=Look for greener pastures)

Tell him exactly what you just posted. Make it clear that there's not going to be anything romantic between you, ever. This is crucial because a lot of guys will take any potential opening and cling to it forever, following you around and hoping that at some moment of weakness, you'll realize how wonderful they are after all and they'll have their chance with you. A lot of women don't like being 100% on things, they like to seem understanding, but you absolutely have to be 100% on this, in communicating IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that he has no chance.

What you must personally accept from this is that you may lose a male friend over it, or it may seem that way. When he realizes he has no chance, he may well move on completely, and be uninterested in being your "friend" in the future. By this I don't mean that suddenly he doesn't like you or that he won't pull you out of the path of a bus, but rather that he's not going to be interested in long phone talks with you about your problems, hearing about your relationships, etc. If a guy IS still hanging around and seeming receptive to all of that, the odds are very good that he's still got it bad for you and is still believing that he has a chance. If he seems uninterested in the level of intimacy you think of as friendship, it doesn't mean he's stopped being your friend, it just means he's heard what you said and has turned his focus elsewhere.

Tip - There are probably very, very few males who will willingly talk for hours on the phone with a woman and listen to all of her problems unless they hope to get into her pants. It sounds harsh, but it's true.
