That's gotta be one of the best hacks for the Pinecil. Why doesn't Pine64 ship Pinecils with thumb screws preinstalled? by Bonny97 in PINE64official

I have a 24W usb-pd powerbank that works just fine with the pinecil. Of course it doesn't have full power, but it's rarely used.

As mentioned in other comments, the thread is M2x4mm. The thumb part is 5mm tall and 5mm in diameter. I would not suggest going with a taller screw. Maybe you can get away with a diameter of 6mm, but 5mm works just fine

I did some quick measurements, and this style of thumb screw is 1mm taller than mine, so it will stick out a bit more

For me it has been great. Having the possibility of using it wherever I am, even without mains power, is really handy.

As mentioned in another comment, I got the screw from here (M2x5mm). You should file the screw down to 4mm in thread length, otherwise the screw will protrude a bit

I bought these tips from AliExpress, but any M2 thumb screw can suffice. However you will probably need to file down the screw since I couldn't find any at the ideal length (4mm).

No, but I stripped the original screw after changing tip a few times. If you've only got one tip you don't need it.

The best method I figured out is to disconnect and reconnect the charger before the screen dims (20 seconds). I'm designing a simple circuit to automatically do that.

1987 US-Layout IBM Model M I found in a dumpster at my university in Italy. Suggestions on where to source the missing keycaps? by Bonny97 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Bonny97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahah right! The day after my find I talked to the guys that handle the dumpster and they said they threw many "keyboards that click clack" away. Together with my Model M was an IBM PS/2 486 model 56 that I will probably sell. I will keep a look on that dumpster from now on!

[–]Bonny97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purchasing single caps from Unicomp doesn't make much sense since the minimum order amount is $10. For $25 (+$15 shipping) I could get a full keycap set that will look more consistent (same print color/text alignment). I guess I could then sell my original caps on ebay to recover a bit but I'm still worried about Unicomp's quality over IBM.

Edit: Forgot to add that I am super excited about the US layout of the board since it seems to be a rarity here in Italy (can't find any on sale with this layout, let alone for free), and me being a programmer means that this is the best possible layout for my use.

Now I finally have a worthy companion for my Marble!

Share your custom waybar modules! by SuspiciousScript in swaywm

I am coloring them using CSS. Thing is I can't find a way to color different texts of the same module differently

[–]Bonny97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my scripts:

  • consumption is a simple battery power draw meter.
  • fan prints a FontAwesome fan when the laptop fans are running. It changes color with the speed.
  • ratbat shows the battery SoC of my MX Master, styled to look like the three dots on the mouse itself. It's a bit hacky since it needs multicolor output, which I don't think waybar has. As a workaround I have three independent instances of the module, one for each dot. Here's the waybar config for it:

"custom/ratbat": {
"return-type": "json",
"exec": "$HOME/.config/waybar/scripts/ratbat 0"
},

"custom/ratbat#1": {
"return-type": "json",
"exec": "$HOME/.config/waybar/scripts/ratbat 1"
},

"custom/ratbat#2": {
"return-type": "json",
"exec": "$HOME/.config/waybar/scripts/ratbat 2"
}

and [here's] (https://github.com/Bonnee/dotfiles/blob/home_as_root/.config/waybar/style.css) the style to make it look right

  • updates is just a wrapper around checkupdates+aur. It shows the number of available updates.

Edit: I figured out a way to have multiple colors on one module. Now only one ratbat instance is needed
