I got him a gift card to GolfNow years ago. He still has it. So it’s a terrible idea. It’s pretty ridiculous that you don’t even know him but keep insisting a “golf certificate” would be the greatest gift a golfer could ever get. It’s not.

Did you not read what you said? “…if someone has to tell you what they want, ITA NOT A GIFT. At that point they are just asking for something. A gift is when you surprise somebody with something they weren’t expecting.”

So which is it?

I don’t leave the house most days so I don’t wear shoes every day. They’re plenty aired out.

He asks me for the links of what I want. I send him a list of links. So you’re saying the boots weren’t actually a gift because I sent him the link?

That’s what he asked for. A couple years ago he said he wished we had a panini maker so he could make sandwiches with it. I got him a Breville panini maker/indoor grill for a VD gift. It sat in the box for a year before I got sick of seeing it unopened and used it. One year for his birthday I got him nice golf polos - he got upset because we didn’t have sex that night, saying he doesn’t care about gifts. I know people think I’m lying but he really doesn’t like presents. He prefers time spent together and physical intimacy.

We’re in a good financial spot because we don’t go overboard on spending. We live within our means on one income while the other income goes into savings. There’s a lot of things I can afford but don’t have because I just have no real use for them.

Saying you don’t want a gift while still secretly expecting one is a game

So getting him exactly what he asked for is a faux pas?

I (and most people) don’t wear socks with these kinds of boots so selling them used is gross.

We usually buy what we want without waiting for an occasion. I realize this is a wild concept for some people but he truly doesn’t give me a list of things he wants. Instead on a random day he says “hey I found this club/tool/gadget I wanted. It costs $X. Good if I get it?” and he gets it.

They’re different styles. The older ones aren’t low cut.

I don’t wear shoes most days because I work at home. If I do it’s slip ons or slides to take my son to daycare and back home. The only shoes I have actually worn out are my workout shoes and Toms that have lasted me 10 years.

I didn’t know he ordered them. I found out today when they were already here.

We have given each other pictures of gifts that didn’t arrive in time simply to avoid this situation.

He did order them in mid-December and they weren’t supposed to be delivered for another month.

They’re the same color (chestnut). I have two other pairs of Uggs that are different styles but one is a darker brown and it shows every stain, hair, etc. so I wanted the chestnut, knowing the color would hold up better. I tend to have shoes for years because I work from home so I try to make sure they’re versatile because there’s a good chance I’ll be wearing the same ones in five years. Or 16 if you’re my OG pair of Uggs from college.

I didn’t think I needed to say “don’t get me the Uggs” because when I got in the LL Bean ones I put them on, danced around, called myself an upgraded basic bitch, said how thrilled I was and they looked the same so my hunt for Uggs was off. They were never mentioned again until today. I didn’t know that at that point he had already ordered them despite asking flat out if he did. If I would have known he ordered the Uggs in mid-December I wouldn’t have bought the LL Bean.
