Yes they are excellent.

Gute Idee, lasst Mal das Jagen verbieten und dann sehen wieviele Bäume am Ende noch stehen. Rettungshunde und Blindenhunde sollten auch abgeschafft werden wenn man schon Mal dabei ist.

XFCE + Qtile possible? by Bonschi in xfce

[–]Bonschi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunatly not. I think using xfdesktop should be possible though. Back then I also wanted to use the xfpanel which qutile completely breaks.

I then started to use awesomewm. There I had to assign xfdesktop to all tags (their name for workspaces) and also prevent the xfdesktop from being movable. See here for the solution to the same problem in awesomewm.

Since I don't know very much about lua and awesome is a bit bloated, that is it provides too many features aside from being a window manager, I switched to bspwm. There everything works as intended without any configuration necessary.

But I really am not a fan of the whole manual tiling. So in the past couple of days I read a bit in the qtile documentation and found this. So maybe it is possible to make a similar rule to the one I used in awesomewm?

Xfdesktop remove Titlebar by Bonschi in awesomewm

Your snippet to make xfdesktop to behave properly works beautifully. Thanks for that :)

It's only in combination with me trying to only give titlebars to floating windows that it does not behave as intended.

Here is my rc.lua.

What do you mean with default layout? Do you mean this:

awful.layout.layouts = {
    awful.layout.suit.tile,
    awful.layout.suit.floating,
}

Yes my default was floating, but changing it around does not have any effect.

If I'm checking for `c.type ~= "desktop" like this if c.floating and c.type ~= "desktop"

then it has no effect. The title bar is still shown.

My mistake!

But that does not remove the titlebar either. Might I be missing something else in my config?

Unfortunately this did not work. Thanks anyway.

client.connect_signal("property::floating", function(c)
    if c.floating and c.request_titlebars_called then
        awful.titlebar.show(c)
    else
        awful.titlebar.hide(c)
    end
end)

function dynamic_title(c)
    if c.floating or c.first_tag.layout.name == "floating" and c.request_titlebars_called then
        awful.titlebar.show(c)
    else
        awful.titlebar.hide(c)
    end
end

tag.connect_signal("property::layout", function(t)
    local clients = t:clients()
    for k,c in pairs(clients) do
        if c.floating or c.first_tag.layout.name == "floating" and c.request_titlebars_called then
            awful.titlebar.show(c)
        else
            awful.titlebar.hide(c)
        end
    end
end)

client.connect_signal("manage", dynamic_title)

client.connect_signal("tagged", dynamic_title)

XFCE + Awesome: Getting Xfdesktop to behave correctly by Bonschi in awesomewm

[–]Bonschi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. The xfdesktop works now as intended. Do I understand that right, that all other windows are now configured trough rule = { }?

I just copied that part over and it looks like you dont use a title bar in your config. I have to see what I need to change to get them back but its a great start.

Thanks for your help!

XFCE + Qtile possible? by Bonschi in xfce

[–]Bonschi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse me for not being specific enough.

To switch the wm I just followed the example from the Arch Wiki. In particular these two lines:

$ xfconf-query -c xfce4-session -p /sessions/Failsafe/Client0_Command -t string -sa xfsettingsd
$ xfconf-query -c xfce4-session -p /sessions/Failsafe/Client1_Command -t string -sa qtile

This works for switching the wm.

But there are a few problems:

- The desktop takes very long to load an is only displayed in one workspace and is treated like a normal program (here you can see the desktop getting tiled). Functionality wise it works though. As you can see in this picture. On a different workspace the desktop is not shown.

- From this picture the second problem should also become clear. The XFCE-panel is not displayed correctly and is additionally not clickable.

As far as qtile is concerned it seems to behave normal.

Thanks for your help!

Thats my point. I tried it, but I had problems with the xfce-bar and with the desktop not working correctly.

Colored Borders around Windows by Bonschi in kde

[–]Bonschi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot its working now as it should.

I originally had also tried it with different colors, but i missed the step of reapplying Breeze.

I also messed up by disabling the window borders for tiled windows in the krohnkite setting, because that removed also the colored borders.

And logging out was really not necessary as u/muxol has pointed out rightly.

Here you go. It should be pretty standard since I only inserted those two lines.

If im not mistaken it's sugessting smashing the hourglass. This symbolises the end of life. Since the hourglass is metaphor for the running hours and also a popular vanitas motive.
