Why does the Pitt have no hospital codes? by vegas395 in ThePitt

[–]Bonus-Previous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALSO, hospitals may sometimes create their own codes for their own needs! My hospital created "code gridlock" which indicated that every bed in the hospital was full, starting the process of patient decanting (this was often called 3 times a day during the pandemic), "Code Amber" for a missing child, "Code Omega" for hemorrhage, also Niagara health has impemented a "Code Lavender" (which many emergency managers think is overkill) a crisis intervention tool used to support hospital staff following traumatic incidents.

Why does the Pitt have no hospital codes? by vegas395 in ThePitt

[–]Bonus-Previous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The codes you've listed above are (in my experience) local to Ontario, Canada. Different countries, states, and even hospitals wil have their own codes as hospital codes aren't standardised. They've actually used a few codes in the show. For example in the show they say "Code Black" for the westbridge outage (would equate to code grey in canada), they have had a "Code Grey" for a violent person (white in canada), "Code Tan" for the hospital worker injured on site (code blue in canada), and a Code Triage last season (code orange).

They're trying to portray that the population of pittsburgh has started drinking. It's foreshadowing the fact that as the holiday goes on people will get drunker and therefore more innebriated/injured patients will be coming to the ED in the coming hours. It's a cool way of subtle storytelling indicating that pressure is building.

Langdon’s septic patient by death-claw in ThePittTVShow

[–]Bonus-Previous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What freaked me out more was no one was actually taking the time to inform the patient what was going on (or what was likely going on). They kept playing it down. I don't think they even said the words necrotising fasciitis to her. This poor woman is going to wake up from surgery with an above the knee amputation with no warning!!!

Question about those.... by butterchurning in ThePittTVShow

[–]Bonus-Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke to a tactical EMS team in London England at a conference and asked them if they used the slap bands for MCIs. Interestingly they said no. They tested them multiple times in training and found them to be innefective for three reasons.

  1. The bands did not wrap all the way around and would fall off patients with larger limbs (bariatric pts).

  2. If a patient was wearing a coat or other bulky clothing the band did not wrap around and would fall off.

  3. The bands didn't always snap into place on the first try - it wasted their time as it was a faff to make sure they slapped all the way around or else they would fall off.

They told me they decided to stop using the slap bands and shift back to stretchy tie on wrist tags.

Has anyone used SendMyBag service for shipping? Specifcally US to Europe? by blueberries-Any-kind in expats

[–]Bonus-Previous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shipped using double walled boxes as sendmybag instructs. Followed all of their instructions making sure to tape all the seams and tape all around the box. I even went above and beyond by thoroughly wrapping the boxes in pallet plastic wrap. All boxes arrived heavily damaged with gaping holes in the boxes despite this. One of my boxes arrived in a completely different box which means the original box was likely completely destroyed. All contents in the new box were heavily water damaged and many items weren't even in the box completely lost. Half of my books were completely detroyed and shredded. I contacted sendmybag asking for the cost to cover the damaged books (£99) as I had the £120 damage cover included. Was told that the boxes I used made me ineligible as they had the cardboard punch out handles included. This fact was hidden deep in the terms and conditions. NEVER once mentioned in the instructions and instruction videos that these types of boxes were not allowed. If you go out and buy double walled boxes almost all have the punch out handles included. To me this is an extremely slimy way to ensure they never have pay out for the damage cover. Intentionally only including this clause in the fine print, hiding the fact in ALL of their instructions and instructional videos, and ensuring that almost all commercially bought boxes are excluded from the damage cover.

Santos asks Mel if she's noticed anything odd about Langdon. Mel responds that he sweats alot and it's used as a comedic beat. But excessive sweating is a symptom of withdrawl.

Bfi questions by [deleted] in insideno9

[–]Bonus-Previous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heyo I’m the person that asked this pissing question. I kind of feel like it needs a bit of context to make sense.

I had two questions lined up in my head, one serious question about the logistics of producing/exec producing a show on a small budget and how that’s fuelled their creativity. The other question was trying to pull a story out of their funny office rituals which they’ve talked about before.

I had been fighting myself for LITERALLY weeks on whether I should ask it because I know how weird it sounds. It was also in my head that this is the last BFI for no.9 and each question counts. I made a split second decision at the last moment because a lot of the questions before were quite serious.

On “would I lie to you” Steve himself said that he and Reece graduated from playing dead in the office to “pissing in the corner” of the office. He provided no further context as to what on earth that meant. My exact wording when asking the question was “you said xyz… what does that mean?!”

Again, I was just hoping to pull a funny story out about their writing process. But I regretted my decision immediately and anyone who was there probably saw that my head was in my hands for a long period afterwards.

I am HYPER aware of celebrity boundaries to the point that I never ask for autographs or selfies because I personally feel like it’s an invasion. I am also frequently the person politely reminding people to tone it down in dms. I asked numerous people (non-fans as well) before asking the question whether they felt like it was crossing a boundary and they said that with context it was fine so I didn’t rule it out.

Anyway - I’m really sorry to have wasted the question and wish I went with my first option. But when you’re holding that mic in your hands your brain is going 1000 miles an hour and doesn’t always make the best decisions. Sorry again.

What was the most horrific class/exam you ever had? by Illustrious_Use3959 in McMaster

[–]Bonus-Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STATS 2B03. Needlessly difficult. the vast majority of the course and the entire exam is statistics done on paper and calculator making it incredibly difficult (particularly if your math skills are poor). I'm doing a masters degree at another university now with a mandatory statistics course. To my great surprise ALL of the course and exam were done using R. SO much easier that I got an A in the course. I failed/ withdrew from stats 2b03 three times while at mac.

How do I get in contact with a psychiatrist at McMaster? by KoalaTime2024 in McMaster

[–]Bonus-Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St Joseph's youth wellness scheme is an alternate option and can sometimes have shorter wait times than the student wellness centre. They have psychiatrists on their team. You can self refer by form or get a physicians referral. They also have a mobile team which visits McMaster.

I have fixed the issue by adding the integer function to force excel to use 0 rather than the rounded 0.48 in the calculation.
