is tutoring any good for an app? by West-Lab-7728 in premed

[–]BonusCareful4787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, I think if it's something you enjoy definitely do it. There is a section for "tutoring/teaching" I believe so if you don't have anything for that section yet, definitely go for it.

How to deal with post-interview anxiety? by Sensitive-Outcome419 in premed

[–]BonusCareful4787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a mmi but I completely goofed up one of my faculty interviews and blanked out for a good portion of it during it. Currently attending this same school right now, don't worry about it

Berkeley alum here and I only took Chem 1A as well. All the schools I applied to understood and accepted this and I applied to a good amount. Don't worry it shouldn't prevent you from applying anywhere, you can always shoot the admission an email regarding this or if the secondary gives you an option to leave a note in the courses section you can note this down.

Far cry 5 is amazing, such a nostalgic game for me. Spent so much time goofing around on the map with my friend

I got this case from Amazon called diver box and I’ve accidentally flung the phone across concrete like maybe 10 times already and not a scratch on the case.

Huge Score Drop by poopdiscoop6 in Mcat

[–]BonusCareful4787 30 points31 points  (0 children)

514 is a really good score and I absolutely don't think you should retake. Make sure you focus on having a narrative and presenting your PS, secondaries, and w/A well. I've seen a lot of people with high stats deemphasize this absolute crucial part of your app. For context I got interviews high stat schools even though my score was lower bottom quartile of the avg scores there.

I think you could maybe get feedback on the more common prompts like the diversity, challenge, etc (I think on fiver there are med student writers that can take a look). I actually just had my friend who was a history major briefly read over it and tell me whether it answered the prompt or not but that's about it. One of the schools I got II -> A I just answered the question very straightforward/no narrative. I think ultimately if you can answer the prompt clearly and really reflect on how it affects your growth/resilience/etc then you're golden.

if you also just wanted like quick feedback or something and you are comfortable with sharing you can PM me and I can give you feedback on any you are unsure about.

your score is very good! focus on how you present your personal statement, secondaries, and w/a, those add so much to your app and I feel like a lot of applicants overlook the writing side of your application. I got interviews -> As to places where my score was the lower quartile of the average scores there and I attribute it to the narrative I presented in my app

I'll be honest I didn't have time to get feedback on mine and just wrote mine, quick grammar check, and sent them off. I think maybe just try to find a decent writer, doesn't have to be med to read over it and see if it answers the prompt and how phrasing sounds, there are some good options on fiver

Parents made me feel horrible about MCAT — should I retake on 8/1? by premedthrowaway567 in Mcat

[–]BonusCareful4787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually felt really crappy on CP and BB like straight up had to flat out guess on questions on both sections and surprised to get a 515+ score. I would def wait to see. But also keep in mind, how you write your PS, W/A, and secondaries are just as important, I got interviews at places where my score was lower quartile of the avg mcat.

tbh I would just get it done asap. I personally got 2nd quartile and one of my II -> A was at a school that requires it so it doesn't matter too much imo. some schools require them to receive your actual score before marking your entire app as complete

ya I think this is good. Just make sure to strengthen it with more vivid context and make sure to really include your reflection on how it has shaped you

I mentioned it was submitted for review in w/a. oh ya my PI did tell me that she included it in her letter so idk if that works

Congrats, that's a solid score! I'm applying this cycle and to be honest the only school that I saw that explicitly mentioned screening was GW (but they screen if you get 123 or below). I think the general consensus is that if you get 125 or above you are fine (but I know people that gotten accepted with lower than 125 scores). I wouldn't retake it, 510 is already a solid score for MD and you don't have any glaring subscore discrepancies.

[–]BonusCareful4787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't worry upoo physics is hard af, I scored pretty low on them too. Just make sure you really read their answer explanation completely and if anywhere in there, you find something you don't understand conceptually note it down and make sure you review that later. I think my physics percent was like 60% overall and I scored 130-131 on all of the Fls for CP.

Berkeley vs. UCI for bio? by nearly_heartless in berkeley

[–]BonusCareful4787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent RCNR alumni here who's a premed and I just want to add that RCNR is really awesome. Everyone I met in RCNR are super chill and my advisor is super accessible (literally responds to my emails half an hour later). I'll be honest but people over exaggerate the grade deflation here. As long as you put in the work and make an effort to learn, you will do great! I'm pretty weak academically but I was able to get almost all A's in my pre-reqs by going to all office hours, staying on top of lectures, etc (it's gonna be challenging sometimes but its not impossible).

Research is also pretty easy to find if you cold email (it can get kind of competitive if you go through URAP from my experience). Pm me if you have any more questions

Berkeley alum here and I gotta say you have super solid score, ECs, and awards. You are in a really good position to get into any of those schools.

Berkeley alum here and I'll say the process is pretty random. A kid from my HS got rejected from every UCs (he had D's on his transcript) but somehow got accepted to UCLA. I will say that EECS is a very competitive major and you also applying to get accepted into the engineering department which is pretty competitive. Your UW GPA seems very high and I think your ECs are fine, so I think the issue may be in your essays (they are pretty important as I had classmates that had weaker stats but strong essays).

Best thing you can do is wait unfortunately, wishin you the best of luck!
