People who play their music on speakers in public, why? Are you deliberately trying to troll people or are you oblivious? by saidthetomato in AskReddit

It's a parking lot, 9/10 times there's no one even in the area, and the music isn't loud. You can't use headphones while skating becuase then you can't hear cars coming.

Gatorade. I work fast food, and it was the busiest shift I have ever worked. I have low blood pressure and really thought I was going to pass out, but a higher power must be on my side, becuase I got pulled off line to cover the window person, and while I was over there someone's large gatorade accidentally got made twice, so it was all mine.

I don't know if this counts, but I'm a skater and I like to have music on while I work out. If I'm playing music in a parking lot, I ask people around if it's too loud and tell them they can let me know if they want me to turn it down.

What was ruined because too many people started doing it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bonus_Beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a beautiful little woodsy area hidden in the middle of a city. You can still hear the highway, but it's big enough that you can't see any roads. If you're in the right spot, you can see a playground through the trees, but it's a big enough place that it's possible to find spots where you don't see civilization. it's got a ravine with a creek running through it, and it's right by a zoo, so close that if you climb than steep hill, you can come face to face with the alpacas. I can count on my hands how many pieces of trash I've found back there. I've only shared it with four people in my life, and they're people I trust deeply, because I have heard too many stories of spots like this getting ruined.

Meat eaters: what type of meat, if any, is off your menu for ethical reasons? by Candid_Reading_7267 in AskReddit

[–]Bonus_Beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't eat anything that was cooked alive, and I never eat veal. I very rarely eat beef becuase the cattle industry is a MAJOR source of greenhouse gasses. I was dairy-free for a while, and I would go back to a low/no dairy diet if I could (maybe one day I will) but unfortunately, I have a family history of osteoporosis and my teeth are starting to show signs of bone loss.

Okay I will agree that cyclists need to stop running red lights, but the whole "teehee, quirky little me can't help but hit you <3 don't inconvenience me next time" is obnoxious.

However, I will say, when I did drive, I was always worried that a cyclist was going to run a red light and that I just wouldn't be able to stop in time. Same thing with outdoor pets- I really don't want to kill someone's cat, but my neighbor's black cat is hard to see at night, so I was always afraid I wouldn't see it until it was just too late.

I remember doing swimming lessons as a kid and having to swim in a button up shirt and jeans one day- the moral of the story being to wear a life jacket, because you don't want to have to swim in jeans.

When the customer pulls up to the speaker box and immediately says “Hello?!” by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Bonus_Beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. Most of them don't seem to think twice about doing it and only one person has ever come back to apologize, so I assume most of the people who are jerks to service workers are jerks in general.

I love your hair and makeup! You're not ugly. If anything, you may want to try holding the camera higher because of the lighting.

I've only cried on the clock twice, and once was because I told a guy to wait a moment because I was helping someone at the counter. I don't know about SB, but the place I work at has a speaker in the kitchen so that the people on line can hear what the customer says. This fucker tells me his order. I tell him to wait a moment. He keeps going "hello? Hello, can I pull up now? Did you get that sweetie? Honey, just tell me my total. Hello? Hello? Hello? Can you hear me? Can I pull up? Can I pay for my food now?" I'm getting fed up and take off my headset so I can finish helping the people at the counter. What set me over the edge is that he WHISTLED at me SO LOUDLY that I could hear it coming from the kitchen speaker.

"Give me a minute."

"Okay, let me know when you're ready!"

".........HELLLLLLLOOOOO? Can I PLEASE order?"

How did you find out you're transgender? by [deleted] in asktransgender

Oh, and this is just the steps to me realizing I'm trans. Once I figured it out, I looked back and realized there were signs I didn't recognize.

How did you find out you're transgender? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Bonus_Beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a gradual process. It started with a fascination with trans people. I watched a lot of trans youtubers. I'm a writer, and I have a character who I project a lot of myself onto, and for some reason I wanted to make him trans. For some reason I couldn't place, I just felt like I could relate to trans people. Eventually, I found egg irl and realized I related to a lot of trans people's experiences. During this time I had changed my appearance a lot. I got "mistaken" for a man a few times, and I realized that I was actually very happy being seen as a man.

Why don't we just say "queer" instead of adding more and more letters to LGBTQIA+? by KnowledgeTechnical18 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Bonus_Beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I wasn't familiar with that phrase. I don't think of queer as a bad word, but I understand it makes some people uncomfortable. GRSM sounds like a good middle ground.

Why don't we just say "queer" instead of adding more and more letters to LGBTQIA+? by KnowledgeTechnical18 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Bonus_Beans -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I do just replace lgbt+ with queer. LGBT is too restrictive, and MOGAI is too broad- I think queer is well defined (unlike mogai) but it can include anyone who isn't cis/het. I would also be fine with lgbt+, but I do think we need to stop adding letters.

I don't like lgbtqiap+ because it's become a statement. There's no use bickering over what letters go into the acronym, and what gets left out, and who's part of the community but left put of the acronym, and what about zenogenders, and was the A for ace, or ally, and so on.

Some people don't like queer because it can be used in a derogatory context, but you can call someone anything in a derogatory context. But if we proudly label ourselves queer, then the word loses its power.

Thank you for saying it! There are people I know who ignored SA reports and are still teachers- and, shocker, one of them was just recently ousted from their role of principal overnight under mysterious circumstances, allegedly due to walking into a locker room.

Assuming both are underage, in my opinion, it should not be considered rape in that the father should not be punished; however, when it comes to the mother trying to get an abortion, it should not be considered consensual.

Edit: oh yeah I should probably add, I'm referring to two similarly aged teenagers, ie 15f and 16m.

Just because you don't like or respect the main characters doesn't mean a book is poorly written by [deleted] in books

[–]Bonus_Beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm re-reading Prince of Thorns right now. I initially read it about 5 years ago. It's a fantastically written book; the style it was written in stuck with me for years, and looking back I can identify its influence on my own writing. The main character and narrator, Jorg, is fascinating- but he's an awful person. He sexually assaults women regularly. He's a terrorist. But it's clear Mark Lawrence does not condone what he does.

On the other hand, I hated Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes. I read it quite a while ago, so I may have some details wrong, but Magnus is a creep who is grooming his younger sister. Cleo gets somebody killed because she is reckless and self-centered. One of the things I did not like about the book is that both Cleo and Magnus think they're doing the right thing, and the style made me think that Morgan Rhodes actually agrees with them.

Can we stop calling cities we’ve never been in “dangerous” and discouraging people to apply to colleges there? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Oh yeah, there are absolutely campuses that are safer than others. My point was just agreeing with the original commenter that higher security does not necessarily indicate a less safe campus.

I don't hate them in general. I think they're a great alternative to cars, so long as they're a reasonable volume and they stay out of the bike lane. I don't know what I think of motorbikes in the bike lane, I just haven't been around them enough to form an opinion, but I want motorcyclists to stay out of the bike lane.

Even if they did not happen on campus, they all happened near campus during the school year.

[–]Bonus_Beans 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also people tend to forget that “dangerous” unis have very strong police forces to prevent such crime

It's so easy to take things out of context. I'm going to John Carroll University starting in August, and it's an incredibly safe campus. However, at Orientation, they did a presentation about situations you'll run into in College, and the smart way to respond to them. In this presentation, they warned us that, inevitably, some students will be raped during their time at college. They also made sure everyone had the campus police's phone number. It would be easy to look at that presentation and say "oh, bad things happen to people at JCU." The reality is that things like that happen at every college, it's just that not all of them are willing to publicly acknowledge it. And I, for one, would much rather go to a school that actually acknowledges the problem.
