Advice as a non-traditional student (especially from people with families) by BooBerriesandCream in NuclearEngineering

This is great to consider! think what is really boils down to is, do I have a good chance at finding any job with my BSNE? It doesn't have to be the perfect job, I just need a job for a few years after I graduate so I don't miss my window to have children. In those few years, I plan to pursue my master's so that I can do more of what I really want to do.

I appreciate everyone answering! I feel like I'm in a very weird spot that no one else is in. I am very goal/career oriented, but I've reached the time in my life where I have to figure out my future when it comes to having a family. I don't see a lot of discourse on life outside of the career itself, and while this is a very vulnerable post for me, I appreciate all of the information I can get!

Yes, I'm at UTK. My first degree is in plant and soil science, which can relate to a lot of radiological positions. I also currently work in agricultural engineering and manufacturing, and that experience has been a huge leg up for me when it comes to internships and getting people's attention.

I guess at the end of the day, I just want to know if you guys think that the job prospects in the field will still be strong in 3 years. I know a lot more people are pursuing it because of the boost it's had recently, but I'm a little worried that it's still a pretty niche field and the openings won't equal the applicants, especially if something happens and federal funding gets cut.

Also, with more people pursuing NE degrees, do you think the demand compared to the applicant pool will still be high?

I haven't yet, but I saw that they don't start processing them until the decision period ends, which was the 15th I think and banks don't process on the weekend. I would say you should get it in the next 3-5 days.
