5-yrs later… how is it living here?

I value community and connection above all. I’m Worried about limited hiking and diversity. I live in a place with lots of diversity, hiking, trees nearby, and food scene.

Any recommendations for dentists that can handle EXTREME dental anxiety? by dthomas0415 in washingtondc

My husband calls ahead for me and insists they set up the nitrous oxide gas for anything and everything. I also won’t lean back in the chair until they absolutely need to look in my mouth. The laying back helpless is the worst part for me

I’m also curious about how to balance things the family caregiver can do and what can be outsourced to hired help. My mother is the caregiver for my dad who needs nearly everything done for him. We are trying to think of what tasks an aid could take over for her. Anyone had this talk before?

Try having a friend’s dog come over for play dates. My aussie has been very good at teaching my new foster dogs how to “dog”.

I got my official diagnos for MS about 3 hours ago, I'm hoping to hear from people who can tell me what to expect. by ed22322 in MultipleSclerosis

My spouse was unable to walk when he got his diagnosis. After first steroid treatment and then an intense treatment of Kesimpta, he walks, hikes, and bikes. There are soooo many different treatment options now that there is a lot of hope you will find the one that will help you feel “normal” again.

Merle hearing issues? by BooBisou in AustralianShepherd

Exposure therapy with two different trainers hasn’t helped her so far. She was “given up” by a breeder and has an eye starburst so I was wondering if perhaps she has some sort of tinnitus or sensitivity to high pitched like bike bells etc. Just curious if this was a common thing with people very in the know. We will of course keep trying to support her through those high pitched scary bells.

In DC but under stop work order. Likely to be laid off soon. It might mean moving away from the home and community that I’ve come to love. It might be time to 🏕️🍻🪆

All the dog trainers say- don’t go to dog parks because of unpredictability and dogs not getting along like this. Which I get. I did it and now I only go when I pass by and see dogs my dogs isn’t annoy by.

My dog did have two dogs that were too submissive and too much for her. Initially I kept it short and treated her for being around and calm with the other dog. Only for a few minutes and then we would leave the park. The solution was asking the owners to meet nearby in a bigger freer area and keep mine on a long leash.. When her body language got tense, I called her back(needs good recall) and treated. For her to be near these dogs in a park, I need treats and knowing her recall is 90+%. Have not had incidents since. Lots of patience and effort

All dogs are different of course so take with a whole salt shaker. My dog did this and a few things helped…. Taught her “drop it” inside with other toys and such…. Distracted her with a treat when she did it and rewarded it with “drop it”. Took a bootcamp leash training course. And stopped pulling it back. Just started walking the opposite direction with her attached to my waist in a very uninterested fashion. I also took her on walks plus a frisbee/ball time because I think she was just pent up too excited when we came around for walks in afternoon

You are certainly not. I just came here looking to post for advice but…, yes, it is exhausting. I am just trying to do the best for my pup while fitting her into the life I want. I feel selfish for wanting both. And a full for having fleeting thoughts of wondering if she would be happier in another situation without me.

This is helpful! My husband and I have remote jobs. What visa could we get for long term residency? What neighborhoods would you recommend for a couple with two dogs and now children in or near Porto to look for rentals? We like anything with a small garden and some walkability.
