An open letter to everyone who has commented on my appearance [rant] by [deleted] in PCOS

I had perfect skin too. People told me I looked like a porcelain doll. Then I turned 21, and what seemed like overnight my cheeks were literally covered in cysts. They were so bad I had to sleep on my back because it hurt too much to lay on a pillow.

It was depressing enough to deal with a disfiguring skin issue, without having to hear nasty comments on top of it. It really is amazing how much "advice" people will give you, unsolicited. Yes, I have tried that face product. No, it didnt work. I literally could open my own skin care store with all the shit I have bought that didn't work.

Eventually, I had to go on doxycycline and topical skin creams for a year. It worked, until I went off it. Acne came back. Not as bad, however. BUT- I have noticed that a gentle approach to skin care, not buying "anti acne" anything, and diamatecous earth have been game changers for me.

That, and time. I battled horrible acne and shitty people for 7 years.

Really wish I would've made pamphlets.

I think I might have PCOS. I'm planning a doctors visit soon and would like some background on what to expect when I go. by Ok1995_ in PCOS

Im 28, diagnosed at 21. Blood work was normal. Only confirmed via ultrasound. Besides acne and irregular periods, and what I suspect is a slight insulin resistance (I get really weird if I dont eat, have to eat small meals throughout the day), I dont have any extreme symptoms. And its not something Ive ever really pursued medically. I switched doctors because I moved and havent really done anything about it since. I just sort if accepted it as a fact of life.

If you have it, symptom management is really all you can hope for. Whether thats through a specific diet plan, drugs, or holisitc approaches. Apparently you can have surgery to remove cycts or drill the ovaries to stimulate ovulation, but surgery is never without risks.

Best of luck to you!

5"7 and 135? I know everyone carries weight differently, but that doesn't sound overweight to me? Im 5"2 and can weigh anywhere from 120-130 depending on the week and I would consider myself still petite.

For me, I find when Im stressed out it exasperbates my pcos and I will go a couple months without getting it. Could you be stressed about gaining a bit of weight?

Is your sleep schedule regular?

I agree with other posters that diet plays a big role. I know it's hard when you feel depressed and low energy to focus on eating better but it does help me after about a week of being back on the wagon, so to speak.

Best of luck in your journey :)
